Afonso Alves, Mateja Kezman
Hes ten times the player either of them are though ay?
Yeh of course. But just because you're prolific in Holland doesn't always certify you as a natural goalscorer elsewhere.
Well exactly we're singing from the same hymn sheet.
But if you looked at those three players at 23 and said which one has the potential to become a prolific goal getter in the prem.....
True. I'll be honest, though, I thought Kezman would be great for Chelsea. He was 24/25 when he moved to Chelsea and scored 105 goals in 122 games for PSV. It really is a pot luck when it comes to signing strikers from the Eredivisie it seems.

Yeah, Cerb, I didn't mean it to come across as snot-nosed as it did. In my opinion I don't think he'll be a 30 goal a season striker for us - and I have no problem with that, especially if his perfomances continue to be top class and he carries on creating the chances. I said it earlier on in the thread, but we'd benefit from a natural goalscorer up top while Suarez buzzes around him harrying opponents and creating space for chances. It's a real shame Torres didn't fancy linking up with him.

Blimey it does not take much to sway peoples opinions on here these days.
We used to be a far less impatient, much more tolerant site, and differed from the others because we were not so knee jerk and were prepared to give players a chance, and cut them a bit of slack but ...

Do you think he's "capable" of being clinical Oncey? 49 goals in 48 games for Ajax in 09/10 (albeit in the Dutch league) is impressive.
The best explanation of the Dutch league and goals is to consider them to be like dog years.

This thread is a bit nuts, what are you like lads

Think it's fair to say Suarez isn't the most natural of finishers that's for sure. When he goes through on goal, hes not totally convincing.
Different to other great strikers we've had - Rush, Aldo, Fowler, Owen(vomits), Torres(vomits)...when them guys were one on one with the keeper you knew that 9 times out 10 they'd hit the net. Ruthless.

He reminds me so much of Tevez who's arguably not a natural finisher himself. Great players though and they'll still chip in with their fair share of goals. Different strikers have different qualities.

Re: Gary's post, this was my point. There was a post in the match thread saying he's a "shit" finisher.

Just because you're not Robbie Fowler, you're not a "shit" finisher. Inconsistent, sure. Awkward/erratic, fine. Shit, fuck off.

I've always wanted him on the right of a front 3, not behind. Downing----Carroll-----Suarez combo could be amazing

you don't need to be a natural goalscorer to have a great season or two in a row ... just ask Fernando Torres.

shit son! Worms be flying errywhere

I'd like to see Suarez, Kuyt, Bellers playing together. On paper it would be Suarez, Carroll, Bellamy but Kuyt does so much work in defense and, playing three attackers, I think we'd need that desperately.

Beyond that I think Downing is nailed on as a starter whenever fit, Gerrard speaks for himself.

Enrique, Carra, Agger, Kelly/Johnson

Reina.

When fit these guys look like they've claimed a starting spot and will be hard to shift.

That would just leave one spot left which I think comes down to Lucas or Adam. I can't see us leaving Adam out after all the talk on his delivery and filling the position of Alonso which I think is going to cause us issues since I believe Lucas is more valuable to us than Adam at this point.

Yeh, we should sell him.

Me too, i'd like to see this, but it's unfair on Downing who doesn't deserve to be dropped, he's not set the world on fire, but he's been good. But those three upfront will be fantastic. Or even Carroll for Kuyt.

*taps side of head*

Now you're thinking like a Director of Football.

Luis Suarez ended 272 minutes without a Premier League goal when he scored against Wolves.

He has scored seven goals in his first 19 league games. Fernando Torres scored 11 in the same period.

He's gonna get a hatrick against wolves. Believe that.

Torres has 3 in 25 games for Chelsea though. So of the two Suarez has definetly had the better start....
