Sturridge

Underwhelmed people, who should we be buying?

And why would any of these aces want to join mid-tabled Liverpool?

mes sentiments exactament. It's an * appropriate* signing. If we want the next Torres, Fowler, Owen etc, we'll have to grow him ourselves or pick him out of the Dutch Leagues before he's spotted.

Dont think 12 mill for a 23 year old striker with a 1 in 2 scoring ratio is overpriced tbh.
The lad has bags of potential, pace and ability. Hopefully he'll show that here.

How exactly does 26 league goals in 96 appearances equate to a 1 in 2 scoring ratio.

I've no doubt he'll be a 1 in 3 or better striker for us. When played consistently he'll be a beast.

Despite my rant in the old Sturridge thread two years back, I've a good feeling about this.

He certainly seems the sort to fit in with Rodgers' system as well as being proper back-up for Suarez in the middle.

I think he is going to fucking wreck the place and rip the scum to shreds next week, he is often described as a selfish shithead, these people often make good strikers, he was shelved at Chelsea because 1. Drogba was the untouchable god and 2.now that Drogba is gone Abramovich forces his managers to play his latest £50m flop in order to prove the signing wasn't a mistake. I think when giving a decent run of first team football Sturridge will bring in a lot more goals per million pound than most others.

I'm optimistic about Sturridge.

I've liked him for a while and believe he can become better and better with regular football.

I'm liking your gumption roadred - Now get an avatar....

Stephen Martin@stephen1martinSigning Sturridge now and not last summer has reduced the fee by £5.8m and he himself had promised us first refusal. Good business? #lfc

I've been trying 'til my fingers bled(or at least got a bit tired), but when i click on UPLOAD I get get a 'server failure, try again later' message, after so much rejection I had to give in.

Not really. He might have got us an extra few points and they could be worth zillions

I think Hansern used the Crouch method.

You just subtract substitute appearances because they don't count, but leave in goals scored off the bench.

Except Crouch hardly ever scored after coming off the bench, infact you could probably count the amount of times he did on three fingers, if that.

If you add the actual minutes he played in those 96 apperances you'll figure it out.
That results in a 1 in 2 ratio.

And you're wrong Ross.

Sturridge:
Chelsea - 49(47 sub) - 96 apps - 24 goals

2012/13: 320 minutes - 160 minutes per goal
2011/12: 3061 minutes - 235 minutes per goal
2010/11: 535 minutes - 133 minutes per goal
2009/10: 612 minutes - 122 minutes per goal

Total Time on the field for Chelsea 4528 minutes - 188 minutes per goal

Bolton:
2010/11: 976 minutes - 122 minutes per goal

Total time on the field last 4 years 5504 minutes - 172 minutes per goal.

Alrighty, let's be honest here, this bit of business was conducted well, conducted in advance and FSG backed us up. So credit where credit is due, this signing is the antithesis of what happened in the summer. They learned their lesson. A "well played" is in order.

I'm delighted.
2nd of Janurary and we have signed a top talent for less than most our recent signings.

Sturridge cost < Allen, Hendo, GlenJo, Suarez, Downing, Carroll

He's going to be a star and will score a shed load of goals.
Best signing we've made since Suarez

I think he'll be a great addition. That interview Glen C posted a few pages back shows a whole different side to him portrayed in the media. His attitude seems spot-on and he's sort of been treated as an outcast at Chelsea since Villas-Boas was given the boot, so he'll arrive here eager to impress and wanting to prove doubters wrong. You look at the times throughout his career he's been backed by the manager and given a decent run in the team (during a loan spell at Bolton and Villas-Boas' ill-fated term in charge), he was fantastic, and speaking of Rodgers today, he said, "I'm just happy the manager has put faith in me. He is the first manager to actually pay for me and sign me, so I can't ask for anymore from him or the club in bringing me here". So far so good.

...........The injuries over the past few months concerns me though.

Do people really fall for those media comments?

Any agent worth his salt would have prepped him to throw in phrases that fan want to hear.
