Daniel Sturridge has explained how his Anfield experience as an away team player made Liverpool the perfect club for him to join after Chelsea.
Sturridge left Liverpool in the summer of 2019 after scoring 67 goals in 160 appearances after joining from Chelsea in January 2013.
The 29-year-old’s time at Anfield was hampered by a succession of injuries, but he was in the matchday squad for all bar four games in his final season with the club.
And now looking back on his time with the Reds, Sturridge has opened up on how the atmosphere created by Liverpool fans inside Anfield always left an impression on him.

While the forward, who has been without a club since March after leaving Turkish outfit Trabzonspor, has even told how his sister dreamt he would be playing for Liverpool a year before he signed.
“The fans were just different. You play at Anfield – you’re getting the goosies,” said Sturridge,
“You’re walking through the tunnel getting the goosies; like the goosebumps and the hairs on your arm are standing up.

“You see the sign – some of the players are tapping the [This is] Anfield sign – and you’re thinking: it’s different over here!”
Before continuing on how the move came about. “It was the perfect place for me, which is mad.
“My sister dreamt it. She said: 'I think you are going to play for Liverpool one day' - and I was like what are you on about, you are talking foolishness.

“She was like, ' I see you playing in red' - and I was like what is she on about? I play for Chelsea.
“To say the team was missing someone like me was how they sold it. We got Luis Suarez over here, unbelievable player, Stevie G, who I trained with at England.
“They had a young Raheem and they also had ambitions as well. They said they were going to sign players. They then brought Philippe Coutinho in who was a bargain bucket. Bargain bucket man, a KFC bargain bucket!

“It was a snip and we were cheap. £12million for myself and £8million for Coutinho. I don’t know how much they earned from Coutinho.
“For myself, I was there a long time and signed another deal and saw the length of my contract out.
“But they just make great signings at the club. They know what they are doing. Michael Edwards and the team behind the scenes, they just know what they are doing.”

This is the reason I think it's weird that Gini will leave. Fair enough if he's gonna earn a small fortune playing for the emperor of Azerbaijan, have enough money to make sure his grandkids' grandkids can have a decent education, but football wise, why go anywhere else? It made sense when you had to leave to win trophies. We're currently the best team in the world playing at the best stadium in the world with the best fans in the world. If you don't want that there's something wrong with you.

I've been to Barcelona to watch the footy a few times. The best was obv the Riise Bellamy game. But they all sit there eating peanuts talking about work. There's nowhere like Anfield.
