So, who will we buy? When the Mascher deal goes through, we will find ourselves with a bit of money (for once).
And while we certainly will have to fill a gaping hole in midfield, we also need a striker. We've been linked with Crouch, Cole, Remy and MBokani of late. But, it's been a bit quiet on the striker rumour front.

Who would you buy (realisticly)? Let's say we have 12-15 mill £ to spend after bringing in a midfielder.

I think we need a striker that can give us some presence upfront, and someone Torres could play of the shoulder off.

Torres plays off the shoulder of the opposition's last defender, not one of his own team mates.

If we're going to persist with one up top, which it certainly looks like we are, I think we need to just accept the fact that the likelihood of us finding someone good enough to start for us yet willing to play second fiddle to Torres on the cheap is pretty slim.

The only way we can play one up top is when Torres is fit. Otherwise it's a struggle to get it to work and we'd perhaps be better off playing with two up front. We actually have quite a few players who can play up top - Jovanovic, Kuyt, Babel and N'Gog - however none are going to be good enough to play there on their own.

Humour me. Roy tends to play 4-4-2 at home, so Torres could need a partner from time to time.

Edin Dzeko.

Yes, that's very likely .. not.

How much is Pato worth these days? If we get a big takeover id love him at Anfield. Or that new wonderkid Neymar.

Otherwise while we are still skint I would take any of City's strikers, I just doubt they would sell to us as direct rivals for champions league.

Crouch would be just about ok.

Huntelaar on loan was mentioned would be a good one.

Thats the gamble you take with these kids for every Aguero and Rivaldo theres a Robinho or Denilson.

I suppose what happens is they mistake potential for the hype and it all goes to their heads, and then never fulfil that potential.

Naymar being a twat would be a big worry at this age since hes done nothing and barely has a handful of games under his belt.

I remember when Kerlon was going to be the next big thing. The seal boy? God knows what happened to him maybe Roy can get the seal boy to anfield.

Given that it's unlikely to get a top quality young striker who can a) play up front on his own; and b) play second fiddle to Torres, maybe we should be in for a cheaper and more experienced player.

I'd like us to bring Freddie Kanoute back to the PL. Always liked him as a player. Quick and skilful and he can play up front on his own. I think we could bring him in quite cheaply and he'd be okay with not starting every week.

I think the only way we'll get someone good at a price we can afford is to look at the richest clubs' signings from previous seasons: the ones who didn't make the first team last year and are now looking at being 3rd or 4th choice. These players - Benzema, Santa Cruz, Bellamy, Klose, Gomez - might just be available at knockdown prices or even on loan. I'd happily take any of those five...

Yep, this makes sense, though getting them from Citeh or any other team in the Premiership is less likely I'd imagin.

Someone who can play alone upfront. Klose, Gyan, Santa Cruz, Llorente and Remy are all realistic targets.

I'd take anyone mentioned in this thread, although I think we still should see more of Dirk as a striker this year.

I'd put a £13-15M offer for Bent, too.

I want Hodgson to ask for a restraining order against Bent. Just to make sure he's stays out of Anfield.

I'm just wondering what's Roy's plans for Babel. It's all quiet on Babel and his future.

Because he always scores lots of goals and somehow you see that as a bad thing in a striker?

Was Benzema linked with that under-age girl Ribery was banging?

How much do you think he'd go for now, Bunny?

No idea. I'd bid like £15m and see what Madrid's response was. They probably want him off their hands (and off the wage-bill) now.

André-Pierre Gignac

Eeyore? He's more of a Bolton-level striker.

Not guilty until proven .. and he has denied it unlike Ribery. She is hot and doesn't look anything like her age though !

Benzema would be great ... but highly unlikely unless we are going 4-4-2

Not really. He can play as a no10.

Which is why I said only if we are playing 4-4-2 ..... we have #10s coming out of ears at the moment !

I reckon Fergie would outbid us for Benzema. He rates him highly.

Blackpool could outbid us at the minute.
