The man who carried us over the last decade deserves far more respect than this tripe.
Then you're missing the point. He was given a testimonial wasn't he?
Jules and Mark are saying that we can't just let him leave if he doesn't accept a pay cut.
I'm asking what else can we do and neither you or those other two have answered that question.
Instead all I've been reading is how criminally disrespectful I am.
So do tell, how should it be handled? Let's say Gerrard wants 180k, we want to pay him half.
And yes I am detached because football has changed, money is a big factor and if it wasn't, Gerrard would voluntarily accept a pay cut.
You know that you're talking about the guy who turned in a transfer request after winning the CL.Nobody expects us to pay him a blank cheque but your utter detachment from the club is evident when you start using the Chavs as an example to support your argument. They're not even a real club - why don't you use FM to support your position since it has about as much relevance.
Your dismissive comments of "suck him off", "candlelight vigil" etc just smack of your complete failure to grasp the club.
In pure footballing terms anyone who expected Gerrard to start this season on fire after the heartbreak of last season compounded by the disaster of the World Cup and the lack of rest that meant would have to have been on drugs. He'll get much better as the season moves forward and he'll certainly look much better when he's got some movement in front of him.
Off the pitch he's massively more important than any other player we've got; his influence, his example in training; his commitment; the way he's looked after himself. These are all aspects to his being at the club which Rodgers and the club need for many reasons.
Finally, anyone who claims they support Liverpool and don't have enough appreciation and affection for what Stevie has bought to the club to avoid comments like "suck him off" is just having themselves on.

Also, why make comments about current negotiations to the media?
My point is Gerrard isn't flawless.
The comments about sucking him off and candlelight vigil were made in jest cause no one mentioned how we would solve this contract situation. And also it doesn't surprise me that you and Mark are getting so fixated on it.

Fat better?Great servant to your club but loyalty aside if he is looking for anything like £180k per week you wold be fat better using the wages on a replacement.

Even by your standards that's a heap of complete arse. What we're saying, and all we're saying, is that he - and any contract negotiations - should be treated with respect, not the "computer says no" take-it-or-leave-it automatism which you hide behind to save yourself the trouble of thinking these things through properly. For one thing he deserves that, and for another the whole club will suffer if we treat one of its greatest ever servants in that way. As so often before, your pathetic "questions" have been answered over and over again, but you screen out everything you don't want to hear.

OK, I think I'd like to see how a disrespectful contract negotiation is done. People coming in late, tea not being served, Brendan wearing shorts...
Jokes aside, I'm ready to drop this.
My standpoint is Gerrard on current form shouldn't be getting 180k, that's it.
I don't think that's what has happened here. The sniping only started on the 3rd page and when you look at what Modo actually said the reactions are wildly disproportionate. This was the post that sparked the outrage:It's a very banal one. I don't think anyone expects Gerrard to be given a massive wage. It's blindingly obvious that he'll probably have to take a cut and the deal will involve other incentives. What people are peed off about is Modo taking this very basic assertion - about which fair enough - and turning it into pages and pages of pointless wind-ups.
It might have been a little curt, but it's hardly controversial. If anyone else had posted that, people would barely have batted an eyelid.Legend, but we can't pay 180k per week for nostalgia.
Like I said before most Liverpool legends ended their career elsewhere.
Seems like some have trouble letting go.

As for the point being banal, I disagree. I think it's quite a poignant one. We're talking about the line between emotional attachment and financial prudence. I think that's well worthy of discussion. And it seems we're not all in agreement. Some do expect us to pay what he asks (even if that's 180k), due to his standing at the club.
As I said earlier, I think some people focus on the method rather than the content where Modo is concerned.
