Worst season in how long?

I was looking through some season reviews over the weekend and Jesus he really is having a poor season by his incredible standards.

I can't think of a game where he has stood out off the top of my head and that speaks volumes.

So what is it down to?

S.O.S captain fantasic your team needs you now more than ever!

Injuries & frustration at the team's performances for sure, also playing in the hole? Troubles at home?

Actually sorry Dreamy, that was a shit reply.

Our (and Gerrard's problem) is that everything has to go through him, cos we don't have good enough other players to change the focus of attack. Either Gerrard creates soemthing out of his arse (or Torres does likewise), or we're relying on a set-piece/bit of luck/freak goal.

We need another two Torres and Gerrard's in the team.

Ya but he has played in shit Liverpool teams before and managed his magic. It just doesn't look like its gonna happen this year for him.

Where are the 25 screamers, where are the driving runs, where are the amazing passes.

He looks so flat. It's more depressing that the overall team.

He's our captain, our leader.

He's been injured Pat.

And you could ask where are the fucking 25 yard scoreamers, and last-minute winners from the rest of the team. You're effectively asking for him to pull us out of the mire everytime we're fucked, which is a ntohing strategy really.

We need more (and significantly better) options.

He has been injured or unfit for donkeys. And this position he occupies means he only sees the ball for about 72 seconds per match, which is much less than when he played CM in a shit team. Nando has been out injured too, and without Torres he is soooooooooo isolated.

Appreciate the wisdom Rafa, no seriously I think the rest of SCM missed that fucking gem right there!
Do you think the rest of the team have been below their usual self so far this season also?!

I agree that we need more that wasn't the question. My point is he's done it before and after injuries too. I'm not asking him to win every game on his own, but he is usually good for a few match winning performances a year.

But this season he has added nothing really for a player of his ability.

From player of the year to this is very worrying.

Give it a rest you mardy tart.

Yeah it was a basic comment, but so what?

Quite a few of our other players have taken a fair amount of stick on here this season, but not many have questioned Gerrards form so far.

Maybe it is down to injury, but even before then he's been struggling for form.

He has been injured before and still put in big performances and great goals.

And he hasn't be injured all year, yet its December and he hasn't had a big game of note. Fair enough maybe I'm reading to much into it.

That's because people don't ever want to hear what's wrong with captain fantastic :🙂 He's played in our last 8/9 games now (???) since coming back form his injury and I have seen him look somewhat like himself for 30 minutes in 1 half of football. If you tried to say something 6-8 weeks ago though it would have resulted in "knee-jerk/cunt/knob" etc etc. Sometimes the 'moany' things can't be said on here, regardless of their validity.

I don't think that's true at all. As far as I can tell, the prevailing opinion was that he was still unfit when rushed back into the side and that since then he's not looked quite right. It's not that everyone is too protective of Gerrard to question his form, but that it's automatically attributed to working his way back to fitness and form.

Well maybe, but more often than not (I think that's fair) it would be met with some critisicm at the very least. I remember somebody posting something about him a few weeks ago (quite understated and not even the main point of the post, just a tack on) and the very next comment was something like "well he can't win us every game :🙂", which there was no need for.

I've been encouraged by the fact that he seems to be recovering form, fitness, and he doesn't look like he's playing with fear of injury.

He's still a decent way off his best, but our team is making every player on it look worse than they are for long periods of time.

Famed input? what like err like you know Stevie hasn't been amazing this season? That's great input there thanks.

The fact is Stevie is getting older and being rushed back from injuries hasn't helped his form this season. While a season or two ago he might have been back to his all action hero stuff within a few weeks it's clearly taken him longer this season.

It was horrible watching him yesterday throwing himself on the floor at the slightest contact all over the pitch.

Cheers for that.

I never knew that Stevie was getting older, or that his form might be connected to his injuries.
