Sterling & Suso

Seems a bit odd for Sterling. First he gets over-played in the first team and then he gets sent on loan. I suppose any games will do him good but it all seems a bit incoherent as a plan. Suso definitely needs the games, preferably at a club that will give him the licence to play to his strengths rather than fill a gap as Pacheco did (admittedly quite well) at Norwich.

@gkmacca..

Sterling was only initially played because our squad lacked strength & depth... Loaning them out is a great idea to assist their development.. More so given we have no european games next season..

It certainly has done Lukaku no harm at all... In a few years he will be a regular starter for Chelsea..

We need quality experinced players if we want to get back in the champions league..

I thought it was about 'giving young players a chance'. At least that's what I was told whenever I suggested it was forced on the manager. Well well. Now I'm all confused. Fascinating about the purpose of loans, though.

Its all very well giving young players a chance if you have the games to do so... But we havent... Sterling will rarely play.. He needs to play games to assist his development, so thats where the loaning system will support him.. he certainly has a bright future.. but he is still a kid and only 18..

We need to hit the ground running next season, so best 11 every game...

I don't know why you're telling me these bleeding obvious things. Is it an all-day exercise or some kind of detox therapy?

We did go arse about tit with sterling, but ultimately it gave us an insight to how he'd cope in the Pl. Should have loaned him out first macca I agree.

Tbh we should have loaned suso out from January.

Palace will need some players now they're promoted, so perhaps loan them one or two.

Good shout. I worry slightly about Sterling going dahrn south as he's such a London boy and was unsettled the last time London clubs came sniffing around him, but Palace would make sense.

They will need a replacement for Zaha.. Sterling could be ideal..

I'd imagine we probably would have had we had bought Coutinho or A N other striker in December like we should of done..

I don't understand what Lukaku still has to prove to Chelski. He should be leading their line game #1 next season.

If true to send out Sterling on loan isn't the best decision, he's more than earned a place on the squad and he would get playing time. HE could easily replace Assaidi in the squad and i daresay Downing also.

I dont see how he would get the playing time.. with Coutinho, Downing, Sturridge, Borini & A N other striker & potentially Winger ahead of him in the pecking order..

Loan to Christmas.. re-assess our options then..

Suso - Season long Loan..

This. I'd loan Coates until christmas too if we have enough CB cover.

Other than a huge price tag, borini hasn't shown anything to suggest he can play for us

Sterling on the other hand has shown some good performances

Because he's a good player with bags of talent who can genuinely challenge for a place in the team, we need a strong squad.

Talent wise I agree, Still cant see it imho.. Just not enough games.. Loan him out and let him nuture that talent and come back to us later in year or preferrably next season when we are back in Europe and we will need a Big Squad...

True.. but going on end of season form, injuries etc, Borini will still be ahead of him in the pecking order.. and then there will be this Aspas fella or any new potential winger signings...

I see Sterling as one for the Future, I don't see loaning him out to another Premier League team as a backward step imho..

No doubt he will be here to till or near deadline day (for extra cover for suspended Suarez & Injured Sturridge).. and come Deadline day he will be loaned out..

The club will want to Balance the wage bill some how.. with the signing of new players and the lack of additional European Games revenue..

Now if Suarez goes then, but only then he may stay...

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. For me, if Sterling hadn't completed almost a full season as part of the squad, I'd be all for it. To be an integral member of the first team squad, get called up for England, only to be sent on loan makes little sense. In any case we should sell Downing.

Nothing beats playing competitive games regularly for a young and upcoming player. Tom Ince is one of them many examples. While I agree having him in the squad will provide us with options, we have to weigh the long term advantages to his development vs the short term achievement of next season, i.e. CL qualification. Like RedNinja suggested, we can do a loan until end of the year or one with a call back option. I think the 'advantage' of this duo being 'rushed' into the 1st team instead of going out on loans first is that clubs have now seen what they can offer at the top level - more clubs will be willing and ready to make a move for them, as compared to before them making their 1st team debuts with us.

Downing was one of our Better performers in the latter part of the season.. He dislodged Sterling from the Starting line up...

People forget he was only called up a first team member due to the lack of squad depth... The lad has potential.. but he needs games to fulfil that potential and that is something he wont get much of here next season...

@Binny hit my points exactly...

Long term advantages to his development outweigh our short term options for having him in the squad next season.. ..

I agree with that.. But chelsea are a club that Must have big name Marquee Signings.. You only have to look at the treatment of Sturridge to see that... Lukaku is certainly one for the future for them, be intresting to see what Mourinho makes of him though..

As a Striker I think Lukaku has it all..

In general I agree with everything you just said. In Raheem's case, it would be in my opinion, a retrograde step for him as he's already proved he can play in the first team when called upon and has acquired a full season of experience.
