Sterling loan?

How come ronaldo and rooney were not mentally tired at the same age? Did they sleep in a different sort of bed?

You do realise that Sterling has played pretty much the same number of games that Ronaldo played in his first season for United? Ronaldo didn't join and become there saviour at the age of 18.

I think it's more down to the fact sterling is a prospect at the moment, and that is all he is, he's not good enough to play week in week out in the premier league. In a few years he might be fucking ace, but not at the moment, far from it. There's no end product out of him when he plays, the best he can do is run fast towards the box then pass it off square or backwards at best. Maybe in a few years he'll have the instinct to go for goal or to create chances off a killer pass.
If we can get him out on loan to a good championship team who'll play him every week, it'll surely work wonders for him. Maybe then loan him out to bottom half premier league team next season.

Ronaldo and particularly Rooney were men at 18, Sterling still looks like a kid. That's his main problem at the moment IMO: physically he's just not ready for the PL yet, otherwise he is, but that's just not enough for him to be starting regularly.

The fact that he knows he'll usually be shrugged off the ball when he attacks defenders therefore naturally undermines his confidence, and he tends to just keep things cautious. His best performance in terms of confidence was probably at Sunderland, where he quite often got at and beat his man, played plenty of dangerous ball, and got in a lot of good crosses, including an assist for our goal. That's what he can do regularly with a bit of patience while he gains strength and experience over the next couple of seasons, IMO the talent is not in question.

I wouldn't be against him going out on loan next season, but for now I'd just let him get some rest and recovery.

I don't remember anyone talking about him being mentally tired that season, just that he needed to work on his game and stop doing 50 stepovers and then falling over. He improved his game, stopped his falling over, and then turned into the player he is now.
Sterling needs to improve his game, not his mental tiredness.

There's also the small matter that Sterling isn't as precocious an 18 year old as Ronaldo was, who went on to be the second best player in the world. It's a stupid comparison from start to finish.

Well he can't improve his mental tiredness. He can recover from it, and the sooner he does the sooner he'll be able to start improving his game.

You don't have to talk about something for it to be true, also, the situations were both very different. Neither Ronaldo or Rooney joined United and became their main man. When Sterling started playing everyone was expecting him to do something for the team, make something happen, and he became one of the first names on the sheet.

I couldn't give a toss about what Ronaldo did or any other player did. The fact is that Raheem Sterling is mentally shattered and no amount of ancient examples of how other players felt is going to alter that.

Never mind Ronaldo, Rooney or anyone else, comparing his mental state to any other individual in the entire world is plan stupid.

The Assaidi situation is really weird given that he's looked useful when he's been given a chance.

There isn't anyone in the squad that's better at beating a man than he is. Plus he doesn't look too dreadful at delivering a decent final ball.

I guess he must be shit in training or something... either that or Rodgers didn't want him and he was signed by the club. Who knows. I'm guessing he'll be off in the summer either way.

I'm guessing he was signed just to bring a bit more depth to the squad in case of injuries but was never really considered to have a long term future at the club. Rodgers probably just wants to play guys who he sees will be here next season too.

I don't think so, something unexpected has surely happened to change things. This is what Rodgers said when he signed him:

"He's a young player who has done very well, in particular in the last couple of seasons, in Holland," said Rodgers.
"He fits our style perfectly. He's an exciting player who is very good in one-versus-one situations and I think he's a player who will excite the crowd.
"We're not expecting too much too early - he needs time to adapt. But we're delighted he's chosen to come here over a number of other clubs.
"I'll look forward to helping his development and I hope he'll become a very good part of this club."

Heh, I wonder who else was after him (Ajax was one, right?). He must be regretting his decision to come here given the way things have turned out.

Surely this is key? Maybe he was never going to play much this season.

I don't think so. I think that was generic waffle about a player coming in from a different league.

Perhaps his fitness has been more an issue than we realize or there is some other reason as to why he's had very little beyond a couple starts in cup competitions earlier this season.

It's been a bit of a year for the lad, breaks into first team, necessity to play more than we would like, gets big contract after billionaire club rumours England call up, seeds more kids, arrest and court case.
He needs a break, with a few appearances from the bench, and a nice settled close season, coming back fresh, not some championship Neanderthals clogging him from now to the end of the season

regards

If he isn't going to play a major role in our next 9 games, i'd much rather he was playing in competitive games than in the reserves. Premiership would obviously be the ideal place, but if there is no interest then the championship is still a very competitive division and will help him shape up a bit physically.

It's interesting to see Sterling, Suso and Shelvey all playing for the reserves now. I really like the fact that they're actually getting games - previously we used to have players (like Coates is now) just rotting away in the stands. It's no good.

So if a loan to a good club that plays football is a possibility I'd be all for it.

Hope its nothing like the bebe situation at united.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has dismissed suggestions that either Raheem Sterling or Suso could leave the club on loan this season.

The pair were promoted from youth level to the Liverpool first team upon Rodgers' arrival at Anfield and have each racked up a significant amount of appearances during 2012-13.

Both Sterling and Suso have featured for the U21s in recent weeks but the manager insists neither have been made available to other clubs on a temporary basis.

"It's very simple, neither of them are available for loan," Rodgers told reporters at a Melwood press conference on Thursday.
"I'm not sure where the stories have come from, to be honest. They're both young players that have played a lot this year - they have been very much a part of our group.

"Raheem has been outstanding this year, he's only young and we need to nurture and protect him.

"We've got a very small squad and those two boys are an integral part of the group. That [loan deals] won't happen."

The Northern Irishman was also questioned about his early plans for the summer transfer window.
"If we were close, I wouldn't tell you anything!" he responded. "It's ongoing work, no different to most clubs.
"The people in our recruitment team behind the scenes are doing an excellent job in gathering information and watching the types of players that fit the profile we're after. That will be ongoing."

Mr Rodgers issues a massive fuck you to the press and Endsleigh clubs.
Mr Rodgers is taking on all comers.

Except he DID ponder the idea of sending Suso on loan when he last talked to the Echo, so I don't know why he's mystified as to where THAT speculation started.
