Sterling Deal Complete: 49 million (44 + 5)

I love it that Man City payed £45M+ for him...

I can say that right? It is true after all. Sure we ONLY get £38m+ but lets not be pedantic.

And if this sad saga hadn't happened, no one on here, surely, would be contesting that Sterling is an excellent player with plenty of potential to get even better for us. But as he's gone, and under these circumstances, there's been an embarrassing switch to 'they've signed a shite player for loads of money, ha ha ha!' I doubt many will be so cheery in the hours leading up to the next game against Man City, with Sterling set to link up with the likes of Silva and Aguero.

True, I would love Silva or Aguero...

Ian Ayre should go with him. I hate that useless moron almost as intensely as the cunt he's managed to sell for peanuts. We should have got at least 70m.

Fuck me. He never read jack and the beanstalk as a kid. What the fuck.

Hazard - £32m
Costa - £32m
Sanchez - £35m
Mata - £37m
Aguero - £38m
Ozil - £42.5m

Sterling - £49m

Coutinho - 8 mill!!

So... we should have buried Sterling in the ground?

Ayre will now offer add-ons for Lacazette and get told to go fuck himself. The moron will then realise his stupidity. Then when Milan offer add-ons to buy Balotelli, the gormless fuck will turn it down because

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

- Ian Ayre.

"Robbie. Three thousand more and we'll reach that Giant".

What the fuck are you on about yer knob?

Every club on the face of this earth extracts maximum value out of city when they come around. What I am on about is how Ian Ayre gave them between a 5m and 25m discount. How. Why. Fuck.

Without wanting to sound like I'm post-rationalising, I always said Sterling had great potential, but I truly don't think he'd get to the level of a Hazard or Sanchez (with us anyway). The way I look at it, if you can't strike a ball cleanly at 20 years old, you're never going to be 20+ goal a year player. At best, you'll be a player creates a lot space/chances for others. So in that respect I'm satisfied with the transfer fee. A lot of people forget the amount of poor performances he put in at the beginning, and the amount of patience we afforded him before he came to life around December 2013. Really he's had 1 good year.. from Dec 13 - Dec 14. He had a poor last few months, last year.

Perhaps he needs to be around world class players to be pushed to get to that level. The likes of Silva, Toure and Aguero. I think it's a good deal for both sides. We might end up regretting the fact that we've improved a rival, but the bottom line is, he wanted out and wasn't going to go much further with us, once his head had been turned.

As for replacements, well it's a shame Depay went to United as I think he'll end up being better than Raheem and would have been perfect. Jordon Ibe also has some great raw materials. Although I'm not sure he'd be afforded the same patience Raheem got at the beginning, nor does Jordon have Stevie or Luis around to inspire him. Markovic is another one that could step up and show something this year. I haven't given up on him yet.

40m is more than enough to buy a player who will contribute 10 goals and 10 assists. Maybe Firmino is Raheem's replacement (in a diamond) and we'll use the 40m up top.

We can't even get someone Lovren value for under 20 mill.

I generally like your posts but you really are pushing this way too far and I don't get why. Sterling wants out. We have got a ridiculous sum even so. The add-ons aspect is just business as usual and allows the headline figure to be reached whilst giving the buyer some confidence they are covered should their purchase turn into a lame duck. Agreeing 10% of the fee based on appearances seems eminently sensible to me and I would expect all similar major transfers of younger talent to go through with some similar kind of clause. The only down side to my mind is that QPR get part of the wedge.

Yes, but we won't get the £5m! As for his power to make the situation unmanageable for us, well, it's equal to our power to make it unmanageable for him. If we have indeed caved in, it's very bad long-term.
How about we wait to see what the add on clause is before stating we won't get it?

They were all cordial with him. Apparently he's quite well liked & knows many people's names & will always say hello, unlike some players (he wouldn't say who).

Somewhat at odds to the image we often see.
Its this kind of info that keeps me reading through pages and threads of shite.

Thanks for sharing Jon

I think it plays out as:

1. If he turns out to be the new Messi we will want to shoot ourselves.
2. If he turns out to be as good as an Aguero we can look at the amount we received (if he's as good as Augero we get the add ons) and consider how we re-invested the funds. Could be good / could be bad.
3. He turns out to be a decent ten goals, ten assists a season wing-forward. Surely we re-invested the £35m better.
4. He fails to handle the expectation combined with the ~£10m /year salary and under performs. Happy days.

No?

So we had a player with a shite attitude, who's done fuck all in the game, who didn't want to be here.

We had exactly one club in world football willing to pay more than 35m for him and we get 44m + 5 in addons and people are complaining?

F*ck me.

Nobody wants to see us losing potentially great talent but considering it was obvious he was going for months this deal is superb business.

The fact they have doubled the wage we offered makes Raheems position slightly more understandable. Yeah yeah he's still a horrible little shit, etc, but it needs saying.

Hope Berahino breaks Raheem's leg in the first fixture and bangs in a hattrick whilst Ade Ward has a heart attack in the stands.

I was thinking that - Is he really on 200K? - That's just insane. Actually I'm not sure I believe it. Surely that's bollocks....

As Oncy pointed out earlier in the thread - Giving that much cashola to someone as stupid and young as Sterling is just asking for trouble. I mean that's fucking crazy!
