Sterling Deal Complete: 49 million (44 + 5)

I'm just worried that without Sturridge in the side after selling Sterling we will lose the pace up front.
He's still a bit headless and he doesn't yet have the awareness to pass but those are things he can improve on.... In today's market he is worth forty million... To a rival... More.

And yes he is a cunt or at least his agent is one.

I reckon Ibe is at least as fast as Sterling. Sinclair is probably about the same. In the reserves, Kent and Wilson, if anything, are faster - and they look it because they are more direct. Ojo is also very fast.

Forgot about Ibe... Yes you are right.. Pleased to hear of those other lads you mention.

I'm just desperately hoping we can return to that golden patch of the season before last... Obviously this time without the genius of Luis... But... Ah fuck it...

I just want us to be good again, I couldn't give a fuck about a player with good potential who seemingly doesn't want to play for us anymore.

£25m committed to Benteke. Plus Milner was at least £10m.

So net of £65m.

If you are including Milner, you have to include the massive budget surplus left from Gerrard and Johnson being off the wage bill, they're were costing well over £10million a year

Ok, I take on board your 10mill in wages for Milner. So I'll add into the net spend the 10mill a piece for Gerrard and Johnson. And note that we've not had any sort of bid accepted for Benteke so he's not counted.

So the net is now down to about 20mill instead? Otherwise, not including milner/gerrard/johnson, just talking about player fees, we're at about 30mill net spend.

Yes, he is. Mercenary though they may be, even if they want a move most footballers don't openly try to sh!t in their own nest by giving BBC interviews and making sure an avalanche of adverse publicity hits the press. For all that Ward is a huge steaming mug, there have been plenty of reports that he's been acting very much on Sterling's instructions.

I think it's been obvious from the off that there hasn't been much in the way of arm twisting between them, they've acted in their own interests which is to get back to London, to Chelsea or Arsenal and make shed load in the process.

Obviously an agent can only act with the instruction of his client - and it's clear a move is sought - it's but it's also obvious that Sterling's goal was not to look like a money grabbing twat.

A good agent would have advised him properly and ensured minimal damage to the ' Sterling Brand'

Sterling wants to challenge for the big trophies and if we looked like we were going to consistently he wouldn't be looking to move. That's how I see it.

I don't know Ross, it just all seems a bit matey-matey, I'm sure one has influenced the other initially, but I don't buy that one has a gun to the other's head, either.

Possibly so, but TBH I'm not entirely convinced. It's difficult to know whether that's the true reason or more of an excuse to cover up for the fact that he thinks someone else would pay him more. I wouldn't be surprised to find he also wants to get back to the bright lights of Lahndan.

Yeah, maybe. Maybe I'm just a naive mofo here.

Not necessarily, mate. It's all guesswork really. When you get right down to it, Sterling's only 20 (and not a particularly mature 20 at that) and it may well be that he himself wouldn't be able to disentangle his various motives in his own head.

£5m signing fee, at least £6-7m over the odds on wages.

I love all this 'yeah but free transfers aren't free cos of the wages they get paid' shit that comes out every time. Do you think players that weren't signed on a 'free' play for fucking nothing? Why is that never discussed?

It's the premium that's relevant. Milner isn't worth £120-150k a week IMO. If there wasn't a premium then fine, but with bosmans there generally are.

Lol @Ryan completely misunderstanding to what level you are thinking about this.

Milner would have gotten more than what he got here from both Arsenal and Manchester City. So, we are really only paying the premium that will be tacked on to the signing on fee over what we normally would. Teams that refuse to pay the premium for the right players constantly lose ground. I think by this time next year, Milner will have proven that he was the right player. I expect 10 goals from midfield. That should prove it to you. I have no more really to say on the subject until we see his contribution to the team and return.

He'd only have got the same from Arsenal because of the same reason we gave it to him: in lieu of a transfer fee.

If you're clearly paying money in lieu of a transfer fee, it is effectively a transfer fee.

Not necessarily a very big one, but still a 'fee'. Like I said, £10m seems a conservative estimate in this case.

How much will he be earning at Liverpool?

What are you going to get out of Raheem Sterling if you force him to stay against his wishes? There’s somebody who’s spoken to his agent, there’s no danger, there’s a deal lined up somewhere, we mustn’t kid ourselves.

There isn’t a transfer that gets done where someone hasn’t spoken to somebody, it’s all done that way. So whatever club it is in this country, they’d have made an offer, they’d have had a meeting with the agent and someone and there’ll be deal on the table, ‘this is what we’ll give him, this is the deal, 150 grand-a-week.’

He wants it, suddenly you say ‘no you’re not going,’ how’s he going to play? I know he’s not going to not try, he wouldn’t do that, he’s got to go out and try, but if his head’s not right you’ve got a problem.

So you’ve got to try and get him in on his own, talk to him and say ‘look, we want you to stay’ and if he says ‘well I don’t want to stay’ then I think you’ve got to sell him.[/article]

I think Brendan Rodgers should let Raheem Sterling leave for Manchester City now.

The sooner he leaves the better for all involved. All this transfer talk is making a mockery of Liverpool Football Club.

Raheem is obviously a hugely talented player but Liverpool have a top replacement in Jordan Ibe.

I’ve been watching Jordan play since he was 15. He’s a terrific player and has bags of potential.

In fact I think he’s got as much if not more potential than Raheem and will go on to be a better player.

On top of that, he’s a big strong lad who is very direct with a great shot on him.

Sterling is obviously too young to think for himself so his agent has been doing his thinking for him.

For the sake of Liverpool Football Club they should take the millions on offer and then everybody will be better off.

Raheem will be a bit richer and Liverpool will be rid of a player who doesn’t want to play for the club. It’s a win-win.

Manchester City are a big club and Raheem will get paid well and play Champions League football so he will be happy.

And life at Anfield will go on without him because he’s certainly not bigger than the club.[/article]
