So Zenit at home

I thought Allen was out of the game by the time he was subbed. Cant understand the Henderson one though unless he was injured.

Shelvey and Sterling were horrible. Should have taken off Lucas who I didn't notice much instead of Allen and Henderson.

And how hard can it be to just hoof it when they are putting our defence under pressure. Ffs.

Numb.
Again.

The faffing about at the back was the one thing that exasperated me. WHY???? Why do it??? But otherwise, that was very good stuff. I was more surprised Rodgers seemed to blow the domestic cups so early on. I expected his inexperience to be shown up in Europe, but he did pretty well; yes, he made mistakes, but you'd imagine he'll learn a lot from that campaign.

I used to be a big fan of Shelvey ... but it's time for him to go on loan for a year ... He's really gone backwards.

Pity we couldn't win that ... I thought it was ours to take too ...

I don't think he has reliable enough technique to be an attacking midfielder but he has been better than he is showing recently

I think that's part and parcel of the style of play he preaches. But I think that style should have a few points where it's put to the side and players just wack the ball out. We have 1 minute to go and they're tiki-taking between them at the back. FUCK IT UP THE LINE and give us a chance.

Agreed. It's also a reason for some many errors by our defenders this season

I don't think he has. He was just massively over-hyped on here. He's not going to be good enough here.

Assaidi actually had a good game I thought; I think Rodgers got one sub right (Assaidi) and one wrong (Shelvey). Probably Assaidi for Allen and moving Henderson into the centre might have proved less disruptive to our rhythm.

But I find it harsh to criticize the team and the manager after that effort. The guys had busted a gut running and pressing all night, so I think it was reasonable to make the subs to bring in fresh legs and minds. Shelvey could've won it if he'd shot straight, but his effort getting to the ball was good.

I think Zenit deserves a lot of credit for moving out of defense and closing us down on our eighteen yard line once our third goal went in.
It took a lot of balls but paid off big time as it certainly seem to take away a lot of the momentum that we had built up.
As great an effort as this was tonight, the tie was lost in the first leg

The problem with Assaidi coming on was that Enrique suddenly had nowhere to go because Assaidi was often outside him, hugging the touchline a few yards away, taking the space Enrique has been running into when Henderson was on and playing more centrally. It immediately stopped us threatening as much down that side.

Thought assaidi was a good sub. Shelvey and sterling out of form but Hendo must have been struggling.

Poor subs .. & surez looked gutted at end hope we see him play many more euro nights at Anfield (in red)

I thought it was Downing who had a shocker tbh. He was easily the worst although GlenJo was not far behind. Everyone else was immense. Enrique, Gerrard were awesome but Suarez..... WOW! Gutted we are out but proud of the overall performance. The people saying the subs were a stupid decision were right. If there were no injuries involved then that's the dumbest manager decision I've seen in a long time.

On the plus side the amount of energy and effort put in to win the ball back was a joy to see. Play like that more and we'll be ok.

Even I have to admit Stu was not as good tonight. Johnson disappointing.

On the plus side agger improved as well as Lucas
