So who do we want/expect/hope?

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has told ESPN that his manager Roberto Martinez is currently in America talking to Liverpool owners FSG about becoming the next manager at Anfield.
Whelan told ESPN: "I got a phone call this morning and Roberto was on his way to America, he's flown to Miami and is meeting Liverpool now, as we speak.
"I didn't ask him what he has decided to do, but I told him I wanted it sorted out sooner rather than later.
"If it's yes to Liverpool, I will accept it and got on with life. But if it's no I'll be delighted," Whelan said. "I would love him to stay, I hope he will stay but I told him I need an answer in the next seven days."
Whelan has urged the Spaniard to think carefully about the job at Liverpool, as he believes the new manager will have little say in the transfer market. The Spaniard has also been linked with taking over at Aston Villa, the club he turned down last year, but would prefer to take up a role at Anfield.
Whelan said: "My information is that the new Liverpool manager will not be given full responsibility of the football department. There will be somebody else signing players, and they might not necessarily be the choice of the manager.
"My advice to Roberto is to think very carefully about this, but Liverpool are a big club and I hope that they remain one of the big clubs.
"But I have to say from what I am hearing the new Liverpool set up on the football side goes well beyond the norm even with a director of football."

Rafa is a little older and wiser and may acknowledge the fact that, whilst he brought many great players to the club, he also bought a lot of dross that were also unsuited to the roles given to them in the team. He may well welcome the chance to work with a DoF who he respects and trusts to get the players needed for the team.
LOL!

Dave Whelan on sky sports. Talking about Liverpool, solving the Euro crisis and world peace.

Martinez is fucked...Whelan reckons he would want total control!!

David Whelen may be a total prat, but he's been our only reliable source of info since Kenny was fired.

I hope he keeps his gob flapping about.

Honestly ...right now , does anyone think we'll ever challenge for the league under Martinez ?

Guess it's not even the aim any more , who knows when it will be again .

He really is a fucking clown though isn't he, he hopes Liverpool remain a big club? Please fuck off.

On the note of Wigan and David Whelan, is the stadium, the DW, named after him?

Ive mellowed over the idea of Marty coming in, somewhat.

Young, ambitious, gets his sides playing decent football at times.

I see it as a risk as its clearly a step up but risks can pay off just as they bomb..

Ive got total faith in him until his first cock up

That approach has been criticised by Whelan, who added on ESPN: "My understanding is that Liverpool are seeking a final shortlist of six managers whom the owners would like to interview.
"I am amazed that they think they can do that, it sounds very much an American way of dealing with these issues in sport, but I would wonder how those six managers might feel."
The Wigan chairman also doubts Martinez's willingness to work under a technical director, although with a job the size of Liverpool the Spaniard may need some help addressing the scale of the workload.
"A little bit will have to do with the attitude of the owners because I don't think they fully understand the game of football in England," he told Sky Sports.
"Roberto likes total control, from the youngsters at 16 to the first team.
"If he doesn't get that I don't think he will take the job."
He added on ESPN: "My information is that the new Liverpool manager will not be given full responsibility of the football department.

Why is he always crouching. Is the view better? Is that what studious ppl do..?

I hope the club don't bother sending a message or making a statement of intent because its that sort of macho bollox that leads to stupid decisions

There is no Statement of Intent like appointing Rafael Benitez AND Louis Van Gaal to work together.
What that statement is...I'm not so sure. (but I'll be impressed)

Whelan's playing a risky game here. If Martinez doesn't get the LFC job he may still not want to go on working for Whelan after this little lot.

Rafa and Van Gaal in harness? I'd give it about ten seconds before there was blood all over the walls.

Dave Whelan only talks about us and Roberto, yet Talksport are saying he's meeting Lerner and not FSG..

Someone has a shite source...

Why would he meet Lerner. Why would he turn that job down a year ago and take it now? What exactly have Villa done in the last 12 months to make it look like a better proposition.

Maybe he thinks they had such a poor season that they must now realise they'll need to spend.

Or maybe they're now so desperate that they're willing to meet his salary demands.
