So who do we want/expect/hope?

What with Vlad and his tippy tappy doo-dah and you with your GaGa mania, you're like a pair of teenagers!
Thanks to Hollie I have been forced to seek out my tippy tappy settings and get shut of the full daft signature, which I occasionally forgot to delete. White heat!

regards

John Henry looks so fucking uncool it's unbelievable.

People that look that uncool in shades shouldn't be allowed to live anywhere sunny.

So I suppose if Martinez is the 'coach' then if the team are playing poorly van Gaal calls him into his office berates him with his wang. Is that how it works?

...and if it's going well Van Gaal calls him into his office and gets his wang out anyway.

I hope Martinez knows what he's letting himself in for.

That Klopp rumour came from a tweet from some bellend in South Wales with hardly any followers who was going on about AVB yesterday.

I dont really get why you would secure the services of Van gaal (one of the best managers in the past 20 years) and then sign someone to put the cones out?
Strange.
Just give Van Gaal the job.

Thank fuck for that. I'm so happy my dream has died before it takes flight

Perhaps van gaal can train Martinez to be a swarthy, dick showing, attacking motherfucker.

Future if LFC assured

He ticks a lot of the boxes for me. It looks like we're not going to be able to give the job to one of the 'finished articles', so personally i think we should be looking at someone who given the chance can make that step up.

He's a very talented young manager (38).
Has the potential to get better.
3 years experience in the Premier league

Now look what he's done at Wigan:

Kept them in the PL
He's reduced the average age of the side.
They play an attacking style of football.
He's done this over the last 3 seasons whilst spending roughly £23mil and recouping around £33mil from player sales.

They finished 9 points behind us last season, and i suspect that Downing probably cost more than the Wigan Athletic first team. Of course it's a gamble, but i'd like to see what he could do given the chance to work with much better players and the vastly increased resources that comes with being the manager of LFC.

Wigan under Paul Jewell (sacked at the end of 2007) and then Steve Bruce managed 17th (38), 14th (40), and 11th (45) in 2007, 2008, and 2009 respectively. You might say they were making good progress. Since Martinez has come in, he's managed 16th (36), 16th (42), and 15th (43). Again, there is an upward trend (despite the initial decline), but it's a little less than remarkable, isn't it? I would say it's a decent, if uninspiring record.

I grant you he's reduced the average age of the squad. Admirable, but again, hardly remarkable. And you could say they play an attacking brand of football. But it's come at a cost of just over 67 goals per season. That's an embarrassing statistic. For a bit of perspective, Wigan before Martinez conceded an average of just under 52 goals a season. Now, let's look at the plus column, shall we? Wigan scored an average of 35 goals per season, while under Martinez (and his attacking football), they have managed just under 40 goals per season. So they're goal difference has got worse by about 10 goals. Never mind the fact that Martinez has overseen some of the heaviest defeats in Premier League history (3rd and 4th heaviest for anyone who's interested). Never mind that their defending has been a source of constant amusement during his time there. Or that he has absolutely no experience of managing a large budget, or managing top tier players. Pa! He's young and enthusiastic, and pragmatic in defeat. And he's won a League 1 title.

It's quite fascinating to watch how a combination of lowered expectations and boundless optimism can impact on people's judgement. But at the same time, it's a stark reminder of quite how far we've fallen. We're at a turning point right now. The next appointment could either change our fortunes for the better, or cement our place as also-rans. It's a massive decision, and a massive job. I'm not saying that Martinez won't one day develop into a top manager. Perhaps he will. But there's no way in a million years he should be under consideration for this job NOW. He's done nothing to deserve it, and has far too much left to prove. The fact that he's even in the picture at this stage is bordering on absurd.
I could get on board with a calculated risk, but Martinez would be little more than a wild stab in the dark.
