So who do we want/expect/hope?

Rafa as DoF would be a disaster because if things went tits up the fans would start calling for him and you know it's true. He either jobs the job as manager or he is no where near the club.

Just read that back and it looks like im questioning your fandom. Im not at all, im just saying you have highs and lows, you cant just stay round for the highs.

I do know that y'know. I've sat and stood through them all. Im just being a gloomy cunt. Thought I'd try it out for a while

Makes a pleasant change to be able to agree with you on this subject, neil. I'd actually go further and say I think there might well be problems right from the beginning of any such arrangement, because I can't see Rafa restraining himself from encroaching on the manager/coach's territory. It's manager or bust with him, which is why I've never believed (and still don't believe, whatever the rumours) that he was ever in with a shout as far as FSG are concerned, given their attachment to a structure headed by a DOF.

Fuck Martinez, if we're going for unproven I'd rather have Lambert, at least he'll have some good contacts in Germany.

First we have to be realistic, just like we have to be realistic with player targets. Many names have already turned it down. We are not...

..in the CL and we are not based in London. Many foreign managers and players want to live in London. Therefore we will have about about...

..5th choice on players that want to come to the EPL after City, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and possibly Spurs. Tax in the UK for players is 50%.

We should keep everything on the down low until it's all been sorted and then call one big fuck off press conference.

JH: Hello all and thanks for coming. On my left is Andre Villa Boas (Bam!), Txiki Begiristain (Bam!) , Ramirez (Bam!), Belhanda (Bam!), Erikson (Bam!) and the CEO of Standard Chartered who'll be handing over a cheque for £150million (Bam!). Any questions?

I would be ecstatic if this dream became a reality.

WHY DO THEY ALL HAVE SCARS ON THE BACKS OF THEIR NECKS, JOHN?

with klopp, de boer and capello seemingly out, i think time is right for AVB to walk in. I am not too keen on any of the unproven domestic managers, they all have a touch of aiden boothroyd about them - in other words they will have disappeared in a season or so. Second season will be telling for lambert.

Tony Barret's piece for The Times tomorrow. Martinez set to be invited for talks this week.

Quote
Fenway Sports Group is ready to invite Roberto Martínez to Boston for talks this week as the Liverpool owner continues its attempts to find a replacement for Kenny Dalglish.

Dave Whelan, the Wigan Athletic chairman, gave Martínez permission to speak to Liverpool last week and FSG is now ready to begin interviewing candidates for the vacant managerial position.

Although Martínez is on holiday in the Caribbean, he is understood to be prepared to travel to Boston to meet senior figures from FSG, having emerged as one of the leading candidates to succeed Dalglish, who was sacked by Liverpool last week after only 16 months in charge.

André Villas-Boas is also set to be interviewed, with the former Chelsea manager keen to put forward his credentials for the job despite having insisted that he will need to be convinced that “the project”, as he referred to it, is right for him.

Martínez and Villas-Boas appear to be the front-runners for the position, particularly after Frank de Boer and Didier Deschamps joined Jürgen Klopp and Brendan Rodgers by ruling themselves out of the running.

De Boer was approached by Liverpool, but refused even to discuss the possibility of taking over at Anfield out of loyalty to Ajax, whom he has guided to the league title in the Netherlands for the past two seasons. Deschamps has not been contacted by Liverpool, but has pre-empted any approach by reiterating his commitment to Marseilles despite a disappointing campaign.

“I am honoured by the request [from Liverpool] but I have only just started with Ajax,” De Boer said. “That’s why I will stay loyal to Ajax in the coming years.”

Deschamps said: “It is expected that I will be with Marseilles next season. When it goes badly, there is a need to recharge. I will leave on vacation but it is expected that I be there [Marseilles] for July 2.”

De Boer’s rejection is embarrassing to Liverpool, but officials maintain that such setbacks are a natural part of a process to find the best available manager.
