So Everton..

He will play 3 at the back just because he doesn't have a left back he can trust. We will be murdered on the flanks as a result. In Lukaku they have a much better player than Gestede. Much will depend on how well Lucas can win the ball back from their midfield.

Our only chance is to play slightly cautious and hit them on the break. Or a Coutinho/Sturridge magic moment.

Still, a lucky 3-2 win to us with an offside winner from Ings.

If Kenny was manager, Rossiter woudl be the first name on the theamsheet

Sad that he is the only scouser near the first team at the moment.

Given that any midfield we pick will be bullied by theirs and Kone & Lukaku are gonna have a field day against our defence our only option is to go out all guns blazing and outscore them..................

.............................................Mignolet..........................................
Clyne.......................Skrtel..................Sakho...............Moreno
............................................Can.........................................
.................Coutinho..................Ibe...............Lallana..............
...................................Ings............Sturridge.............................

Everton 3 - 5 Liverpool.

I'd go with this...

---------------------------------Mignolet----------------------------------

----------------Toure------------Skrtel------------------Sakho----------

Clyne---------------------------Gomez-----------------------------Moreno

-----------------Milner--------------------------Coutinho-------------------

-----------------------Sturridge-----------Ings-----------------------------

Play Gomez in the Lucas holding role. He's stronger, quicker, taller, defensively minded and can pass just about as well as Lucas (or better). The back three (without Can) gives us solidity behind him.

You'd put in 18 year old centre back who has been playing left back with no known midfield experience in the centre of the park in his first derby?

I'd like to go diamond, but I don't see it.

-----------------Ming------------------
--Clyne---Skrtel-----Sahko----Gomez (he's more defensively solid than Moreno)

-------------------Lucas------------------

-------Milner----------------------Mongy Joe

----------------Coutinho--------------

-------------Studge--------------Ings---------

This won't be how we line up though.

Yes. Mourinho has done it with Zouma a few times with success and West Ham played a 16 year old there vs Arsenal first game of the season too.

In that system he'd be more of an advanced sweeper of sorts and with his attributes I think he'd be well suited. He'd also have three out and out defenders behind him.

Gomez was thrown straight in at LB having not played there before so why not in a position he'd arguably be more suited to? I'd rather his athleticism than Lucas struggling to recover and giving away fouls on the edge of the box.

Ming
Clyne Skrtel Sakho Moreno
Lucas
Can Milner
Coutinho
Ings Sturridge
I think that's the best we can put out at the moment. I've got concerns about Can and Moreno defensively but Allen isn't any better defensively and Gomez has probably had his confidence knocked by the manager blaming him for the goal against Sion. Still think we need at least 2 goals to get something out of the game.

They also played that kid with the double-barrelled name there too - and he had a very good game.

Two sources (Pearce and someone I've never heard of).

Mignolet – Emre Can, Škrtel, Sakho – Clyne, Milner, Lucas, Moreno – Coutinho – Sturridge, Ings. Based on yesterday's training session.

Trying to look on the bright side, apparently both Stones and Coleman are injury doubts. How much difference it will make if they're out is another matter.

Neither trained with the squad at Finch Farm yesterday.
--------------
Everton will give John Stones and Seamus Coleman until Sunday morning to prove they are fit enough to face Liverpool in the 225th Merseyside derby. Roberto Martinez will wait until just a few hours ahead of kick-off before he makes a decision on the influential pair, who have both been recovering from injury.

The Blues boss had been confident at least Stones would be available for the clash with their local rivals despite picking up a knee injury in the Capital One Cup victory over Reading last week, but he took a more cautious tone in his press conference this morning. "I think it's too early to tell now," he said. "They're progressing well and in the next two sessions we'll get a clear idea. I wouldn't be able to tell you one way or another.

"We will make a decision as late as we can, probably on the day of the game. "John (Stones) hasn't trained with the group, he has trained on his own. We have got two sessions now where he is going to be involved with the group and we'll make a final assessment."

Sounds like Stones IN and Coleman OUT.

So here we are after what was seen as a decent transfer window and just one significant midfield injury left with possibility of Lucas propping up our midfield - the same Lucas remember that was going to be (rightly) jettisoned a few weeks ago. Then we look at Can, who has some merits to his game but has the turning circle of a super-tanker. He can build up a decent head of steam over 40 yards but is not exactly nippy.
How the fuck has this been allowed to happen ?
Even Gerrard would have been getting a regular game with these options - and he's three years past his sell-by date.
I am not an Allen fan by any stretch of the imagination but sadly he is the better option over anyone else. I think we do need to think outside the box on this one and I don't think the idea of Gomez is such a bad idea either. For this state of affairs alone Brodge should go. The defence is nowhere near as bad as the midfield situation in fact it's the midfield impacting adversely on the defence and on the other side not delivering for the strikers.

I could easily imagine another manager coming in & buying a strong defensively minded midfielder, a quality keeper & that alone getting us winning regularly.

We'd still have issues, but put a strong keeper behind those defenders & a midfield in front of them that can protect them a little more & it goes a long to solving the defensive issue.

Then the same midfield issue helps the attack cos we'll be able to press higher & distribute it both through the centre & wings, utilising some extremely dangerous attacking midfielders & stretching the opposition defence to allow the (now) very good attacking options to shine.

I think we are about to get tonked I really do.
They look a good side. We have lost against every decent side we have faced for about 6 months.

Everton aren't without their flaws, they had a good result at WBA last week, but they've been as indifferent as we have. I do worry about their midfield and their pace on the break.

I'm with Woland on this - everybody thinks we are going to get stuffed & Derby's don't always work like that - Everton have been playing above themselves we just have just not been playing. Despite fairly inept 90 min performances against Norwich and Villa there were positives - we absolutely bossed the first half against Norwich knocked it around brilliantly but were poor in the second half where an individual error cost us badly. Against Villa? Well the positive was Sturrridge was back, Ings looked lively , even Lucas had a decent game- For what it's worth I think we might do them, but it all hinges around our centre midfield performing or being well supported

They're gonna hump us and score loads and win by one.

Fixed it for you..

We will score, but our shambolic defence will concede more..

I want us to win though mind.. I don't think I could stand gloating from the bitters.. But I'm being realistic...

If we win will you promise to shut up until the next game at least?
