I never start a topic & rarely post, but today I am so angry that I have bucked the trend ... and its nothing to do with LFC.

My son was near wetting himself at the prospect of seeing Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and maybe even Fabregas & Villa in Limerick untilk those clowns at the FAI went & spoilt his dreams --- just because they dont want any big matches outside Dublin!!

There, thats off my chest now

LIMERICK FC were last night forced to accept that their dream friendly with Barcelona is dead, with the Catalan giants left with no option but to look elsewhere after the FAI's refusal to sanction the game.

The furious First Division club released a statement strongly criticising the association for their behaviour throughout the affair, and will continue to press for clarity on the exact nature of the third-party agreement which blocked the visit of the La Liga champions to the South West region.

They added that Barcelona sent correspondence to the FAI on Monday night to restate their interest in visiting Thomond Park, yet it fell on deaf ears with Abbotstown officials standing by the assertion that no game with a capacity in excess of 15,000 -- although they said it was 20,000 on Monday morning -- can be sanctioned due to a confidential deal.

"Due to FC Barcelona's need to finalise their pre-season plans for the upcoming season, they are now left with no choice but to seek an alternative friendly match for the date in question," the statement read.

Limerick had expressed a desire to appeal the decision. Yet the clubs who backed Limerick in a meeting on Monday night rowed back on their public support yesterday, issuing a statement which instead stressed the positive nature of the earlier part of the summit -- which revolved around a discussion related to continuing the merger between the league and the FAI.

It's understood that a decision at the end of the gathering to support Limerick caused a stir in senior FAI circles. The chairman of the League of Ireland, Eamonn Naughton, is also on the board of the FAI.

A second meeting took place before the draw, although some delegates had left at this point. The decision was taken at that juncture not to release a formal statement and, yesterday, a missive from the clubs took a conciliatory stance towards the powers that be.

Kentaro is the unnamed company. They're the ones organising friendlies , like the recent one with Brazil in London, I think they were responsible for the England - Ukraine game not being on TV too.

It seems ridiculous, but the FAI explained that they are protecting the league by not allowing the friendly. Since the league isn't self sustaining and is heavily subsidised by the FAI who argue they wouldn't be able to subsidise it as much they do without the Kentaro deal.

It seems like everytime there's a chance for some good news and PR the FAI have to royally fuck things up - for those who didn't see it the new Aviva stadium opened up last week . The FAI sold ten year tickets to people for anywhere between 12k and 32k, on the basis that they got to see every game played at the stadium. Then the FAI arranged a friendly between an Irish league 11 and Man United and told all those ten year ticket holders that they'd need to buy a ticket for the game. They are a bad joke.

Hmmm. All bollocks.

It's quite obvious that the FAI don't want Thierry Henry to set a foot into Ireland.

Maybe if he has joined some MLS outfit by then the FAI will change its mind?

RTE's football correspondent, Tony O'Donohue, said this morning that:

1. There was never actually any official agreement between Limerick and Barcelona for a match.
2. None of Barcelona's world cup players would have been there on the suggested date, as they have been given extra time off.
3. Barcelona also have a committment to play in Korea at the same time, so would it have been their A or B team visiting Limerick.?

Whilst I totally agree that the FAI are a shower of assholes, I think the prospect of tombrown's son seeing all those players in Limerick, were remote to say the least

Huzzah!, well played young man, it was the one thing a thread about Limerick needed.

A limerick would have been nice.

Where is the fifth line? That is a poem, not a limerick.

There was a old man, Tom Brown,
Who started this thread with a frown,
He said "Its a farce"
"I wont see those stars"
Durrrr, they're all in Korea you clown.

I'd like to see you knock out a limerick in 60 seconds. You often struggle with sentences.

Perhaps if you had taken seventy five seconds?

I noticed just after lunch
This thread required some punch
A Limerick was posted
And I subsequently toasted
Brendan "thanks a bunch"

If there is one thing The Count knows, it is his numbers. One, hahaha, two, hahaha, etc ad infinitum.

Clearly rushed it. Take longer next time, and save yourself the bother of a hasty edit.

Very good, even if it was slow by your standards

Tom Brown will never forgive the Irish FA
And his son will never see Barcelona play
They could go to Korea or perhaps Spain
Watch Messi, Villa or B team train
And if Cesc is there it'll make my day

There was a thread started by Tom
when Brendan saw it he thought he'd jump on
what transpired was a farce,
rhymes were clumsily parsed,
we laughed and thought all involved dumb, especially Brendan.

I am honoured that the cream of SCM are writing poetry about me & the lad.

Back to normality - tonight he plays left back for Corofin Harps U11 vs Park Utd in a cup 1st round match; tackling messers rather than watching Messi

Still angry at FAI

His post on a forum
With no sense of decorum
Did nothing to turn things around.
