If losing our best two players so often last season was lucky, I wish similar luck on our rivals this time.

Macca don't be so obtuse old chum.
Injuries to key players are part of the game and something that everyone endures, and something that has to be planned for. Chelsea probably had it worse that us last year, and United were without Ronaldo for a big chunk of the year.
Sorry, but I happen to think we did not have the right contingencies in place, but what we had , as Squiggs put it, exceeded expectations.
If we don't get the right cover in we may find the circumstances different. If we really want to maintain a realistic challenge we can't leave anything to chance. Rafa is now looking at spending a lot of money on another defender, an area that , it seems to me, we have pretty good cover.

Where did you go on your hols, Vladders - Sweden?? The Strindberg Depression Clinic?? 😱

I may have been a tad "livery" old chap, sorry about that, it's just something I feel strongly about - we are very vulnerable in that area

Paul Merson today on Alonso: "£30million is a lot of money, but this is their best chance to win the title in 20 years so why are they selling one of their main players?" He doesn't miss anything, does he, old 'Merse'. :🙂

Jeff Stelling is tipping us to win the league:

"CHAMPIONS - Liverpool
Manchester United are unquestionably weaker than last year, while Chelsea are no stronger and they are all a year older. Liverpool have got Fernando Torres, who will score a bagful if he plays for a full season (it's not exactly very original to say that is it?) and of course there's the inspirational Steven Gerrard. I was disappointed to see them get rid of Xabi Alonso, but they were so close last year and they barely need to improve at all. I just think it could be their year."

See, it's not the whole of Sky that's against us...

Hello, I'm Mark Lester, former child and former child star. I feel compelled to speak out now and admit that Jeff Stelling is my son. Sort of. You see, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, wanted a new attraction at Neverland: The Anorak of all Anoraks. So I donated some cells from my own anorak, and I then mixed these with some sperm I produced whilst reading the boring bits from Four Four Two magazine, and little Jeff was produced two months later. Or, as he would put it, two weeks, three hours, fifteen minutes and 34.9 seconds on the first Monday in twenty-eight years to feature a rainy start while a sad-faced man ran into a milk cart in a backstreet of Swanage. The problem was that it turned out that Michael had actually wanted the ultimate in rain-protected outer wear, not a boring bloke obsessed with irrelevant facts. So I was stuck with Jeff. Eventually, we found him a home at the Frank Bough Institute of Eccentric Pronunciation, and he has gone on to make a career on Sky. But I can't help but remember he looks so much like my old zip-up rain jacket. I weep every time he sends me to sleep on a Saturday.

Mark Lester received no payment for this article. Even though he asked for it.

Did he not stutter, feebly mispronounce something, or forget what he was talking about mid-sentance?
