By all accounts (I didn't see the game), Martin did quite well vs Oldham. Should he keep his place against Stoke? Vote away.

Depends on Johnson's injury but I would say yes. Not sure who they will put on their left wing with Assaidi ineligible.

And yes, i'd rather see Kelly on the right and Glen on the left, give him a chance.

You could tell what a load was lifted from him mentally after getting through that game. He seemed seriously paranoid that he wasn't going to really come back from his injury, so I'd hope that he gets a chance to push on now. He either earns the right to play on or he doesn't, it's not a therapy service, but so long as he progresses I think he deserves a run in the team.

I voted no but meant yes because I didn't read the question properly.

My female side is on the up today it seems.

was pretty poor when he came on against Cardiff, every Cardiff attack for last 15 minutes was down our right

I can't remember, but I think the goal came from a free kick on Johnson's side, not Kelly's? And I would assume that if all their attacks came down Kelly's side, and we didn't concede, that would be a good thing for him?

It was his first match back in any case, and I think he's worth a go for a few games.

Saw the Oldham game today and while it's just Oldham and they weren't much of a threat most of the time, they still had some good opportunities and nearly equalized but for a great save by Jones. I thought they actually played better than some of the Premier League dross we hammered this season. And yes, Kelly played well and deserves to keep his place.

Kelly should probably be marking Mutch on the Cardiff goal, but whatever.

I didnt see the game so I cant really comment. If his fitness is still a bit suspect I'd play Johnson.
Cissokoho deserves another game.

i opted for the left back option. i think this could bring out the best in him, just like what kenny did. i still have reservations on kelly, one game against oldham is too early to say he is back to what we have seen before.

Il'd give him a go there if he is properly match fit, if he plays well then all good, if hes doesn't then hopefully the kick up the backside for Johnson works.

There's no way Kelly starts before Johnson, if Johnson is fit - even giving his shit form.

Johnson's been shit for ages, not just a spell of a couple of games. He needs a boot up the arse, all this "they must start regardless" attitude regarding our more experienced players is counter productive. If Johnson found himself dropped, he could have zero complaints.

You drop Johnson if you have someone better to come in - which I don't think Kelly is at the minute.

I do think the criticisms of Johnson have gone OTT in recent weeks, but I also agree that he could do with a bit of a rest. He just doesn't look as sharp as he should.

Kelly would have to put in some very good performances to hold onto his place for any considerable time, because at the moment this season is just too important and going too well to be taking risks.

Didn't Kelly keep Johnson out the side before? or was Johnson on the left, Kelly was playing really well at one point, was a while back.

At this point, you'd have to play Kelly at Stoke and see how he does, then take it a game at a time from there. If he impresses, I can see Rodgers keeping him there as he's usually demonstrated that he's willing to reward a player who does well (see: Flanagan over Cissokho, Sterling over Moses, Sakho over Agger, Henderson over Gerrard in the FA Cup - in terms of who played in Lucas' position in the first half, etc.).

Bullshit. He's stood out like a sore thumb, and for all the wrong reasons.

Even the biggest Glen Johnson fans have finally dished out a bit of criticism towards him in recent weeks.

As for Kelly, he's 24 in April and thus far he's done fuck all to suggest he can play a big part in an ever improving Liverpool side.

You can see why he's rated - he's a big, strong lad who's got a decent turn of pace and he seems to be a good reader of the game.

However, it's one injury after another, and even though he played a full part in pre-season and we've had some injury problems at full-back, Rodgers hasn't really called on him which does make you wonder. Is he not fully over his injury(it was a bad one granted, but he's been fit now a good 6 months), or does Rodgers simply not rate him?

The next few months could be interesting for Kelly.

I think Rodgers rates him and he said so in the past. It's just his recovery from the injury has been a lot slower than expected. I think now is an important moment, because he finally completed 90 minutes this season.

“The Oldham game was brilliant for me,” Kelly said.“I was probably more nervous before the match than I had ever been playing for Liverpool. It was just because it was my first start for so long. “It’s great to get that behind me. I got cramp in my calf around the 65-minute mark but it was great to get the full 90 minutes - to get up and down that line.

Definitely sounds like part of it was psychological. Many players say that the hardest thing about recovering from long-term injuries is learning to play without fear that you will get injured again.

To be fair, it's not uncommon for a Manager to be complimentary towards his players in public.

Wouldn't read too much into it.

Could well be, and i know it won't have been easy for him coming back from such a long lay-off, but you have to wonder why he hasn't featured more considering Enrique's injury, Johnson's injuries/form, and Flanagan's recent injury.

If Flannagan is fit - there's no reason why he shouldn't get a crack at RB - he's done enough to warrant an opportunity.

Did Kelly do enough against Oldham to warrant a start against Stoke - probably not if Johnson is fit.

I agree it's probably a marginal call.

I'd say yes, but then others might think it's just Oldham, so it proves nothing. At least I saw effort in Kelly in defending and trying to get up front; had a shot on target from a narrow angle, cushioned a header which nobody got to inside the box, tried to stop crosses, and put in a couple of them himself.

On the back of his performance against Oldham, I'd give him a chance. It's not his fault that the opponents were in League One, even though like I said, I thought they performed better than a few Premier League teams we played against this season (Norwich and West Ham come to mind).
