Should Barca sell Messi as they rebuild?

I know, right...

Sadly I can’t really see any other destination for him... maybe aside from PSG.

Yeah, PSG would be shit as well but not as shit as City. I'm hoping he goes to Italy or something.

Ah, he walks.
Well, then the rebuilding can start.
And they can start with tossing out all the incompetent cunts that run the club.

When TAA and Origi combined for that cheeky corner, who knew it will have such a big domino effect.

What a disgusting club Barca is. After everything Messi has done for them, they just won't grant him his wish to leave?
I mean are they going to force him to play?

If he leaves Barcelona, the most likely scenario is he will join City. How about we applaud Barca for sticking to their guns and not giving into player power.

Of course, if he announces he is moving back to Argentina, I will join you in shaming Barcelona as a disgusting club for not granting his wish to leave.

[Xavi Campos - CatRadio] Messi spoke a few days ago with Pep Guardiola and asked him about the possibility of signing with Manchester City

Apparently that's a very credible source.

This is great news for the Premiership, but terrible news for us.

Messi is great, even on the 'decline' ...
Reasons for optimism:
1) Man City have to change their playing style to take advantage of Messi - they'd have no time to do it.
2) Messi is built like a tank, but this isn't a Ronaldo specimen .. He'd be moving from a league which is far more technical and less physical, to probably the most aggressive, physical and fast paced league in the world ...

Agree on both points. My only hope is that they get Argentine national team Messi.

Let's not forget what Messi has got out of Barca too though ! Very very roughly about £50m a year ? He's on a contract, honour it or don't but don't expect them to let you go easily.

I wouldn’t have thought they really have to change that much... play him on the right similar to Mahrez. Walker has pace to cover. The main issue (irrespective of Messi actually) is in midfield where they’ve lost the mobility of Fernandinho. Rodri doesn’t seem to be able to cover as effectively.

Wouldn't Messi's lack of desire to press as much (he still does, but he picks and chooses) hurt them when they play the bigger teams?
Walker has been very hit and miss this season - the speed is there still though.
Good point re: Rodri.

Yeah but he's been loyal to them since he was a teen.

Dunno - at their best they are / were much than most top teams. With Messi in the side - at least for a season - that advantage could be overwhelming.

Hopefully it doesn’t happen and if it does I’m wrong.

50 million pounds a year buys a lot of loyalty when you get to play your trade at one of the top clubs in Europe.
And living in Barcelona is not exactly bad either.

Apparently the clause expired on June 10th. So Barca have told Messi he's going nowhere.

Messi wants the clause to be pro-rata extended I.e. same amount of days from the end of the season originally to the 10th June.
To when the season actually finished until now.

Legally he's fucked. Barcelona will and can just say no.

Legally he may have a case as the league was suspended.

Contract law isn't as simple as what is written down. Unless there is an additional clause explicitly saying this date is final no ifs or buts, or some email or letter explaining the purpose for why that date was chosen, then he is far from fucked. You can easily say it was implied in the 10th June date that you will have time after the end of the season to assess whether to exercise the clause. Since the season was prolonged, it would be legally unfair to enforce the original terms of the contract because he has not had the opportunity to think about it as was envisaged in the contract itself.

Hoping this is just some sort of power play to give the Barca board a kick up the arse. Really don't want to start hating Messi.

Imagine Messi at City. All the chances he and De Bruyne will create, only for Sterling and Jesus to miss them!!{/td}

So basically what I said one post earlier in a rather more succinct way 😉

Read somewhere that he spat his dummy out the pram after talking to Koeman about how the club and team will be run from now on.
