Liverpool FC: Carlsberg will fight to keep sponsorship
11 August 2009 | By James Emmett

Danish brewer Carlsberg has moved to quash speculation that it will not continue its sponsorship of English Premier League club Liverpool beyond 2010.

In a telephone interview with Bloomberg, Carlsberg's international marketing director, Keld Strudahl dismissed reports suggesting the company was resigned to pulling out as "all speculation."

It is widely believed that Liverpool are looking to double what they currently get from Carlsberg for its shirt sponsorship deal to around US$25 million. Standard Chartered, the British financial company that narrowly missed out in its bid to become Manchester United's new sponsor this summer, is believed to be standing by with an offer.

“We’re still in discussion and it is absolutely possible that we will keep our sponsorship,†Strudahl said. “We’ve been in a sponsorship relationship for almost 18 years and that is what everybody wants to continue. We have a good relationship with the new management.â€

United shouldn't be getting double what we are.

We have every right to hold out for a higher price. Hopefully Carlsberg stump up the cash

It's premier league rules that a club has to change their home shirt?
What a load of bollocks.

Ridiculous.

I actually read it as being the other way around, maybe.

The PL doesnt allow clubs to change their kits every x number of years?

I could be wrong tho.

I thought that was the case because we change our home kit every 3 years and our away/3rd kit every 2 years, usually.

OUr home kit is changing next year and we've just changed our silver (away) and green (3rd) to the phantom (away)and white (Euro/3rd).

Next change is in 2011, I think.

I keep track since I often buy the shirts once they've been phased out..

The prices are lower ;D

Home kits change every two years and away every one. Sponsorship deals are usually for an odd number of years though so they can get away with releasing an extra one every five years or whatever.

Right, sorry.

I was counting 2008-2010 (home) and 2008-2009 (away/Europe) as being 3 years and 2 years; it's more accurately 2 and 1 full seasons.
