I love Kuyt, and there's a lot of managers that would find it totally reasonable to play him as an adjunct left back . It makes some sense. Give him some space and he's a good passer (though not a crosser) and he can in fact finish when there's a set piece or something, so when you've gained the opponents third, it's some extra threat, and above all, he'll stick to his duties and be disciplined in defense. Sure he won't be an outlet and he'll slow down how you counter, but he's incredibly reliable, and he'll do as he's told.
I'm so glad we don't have that kind of manager.
