[article]Speaking in an interview with the Corriere Dello Sport, Brescia owner Massimo Cellino revealed:

‘Roma have asked me about Tonali. I’ve talked with [sporting director Mauro] Baldissoni several times. But I want to keep the boy as long as possible.’

‘Is he ready yet? I don’t know. He’s still only 18. But a little while ago, Liverpool have also contacted me.’

More from 101gg:

Tonali, an 18-year-old deep-lying midfielder, came up through the youth ranks of Brescia, before breaking into the club’s first-team setup last season at the tender age of 17.

And the gifted teen has since gone on to establish himself as one of, if not the most highly-regarded young player in Italy.

After being transformed from an attacking midfielder to a regista, the role made iconic in Italy by Andrea
Pirlo, Tonali quickly drew comparisons with the AC Milan and Juventus legend.

Like Pirlo, who also came up through the Brescia academy, the starlet is renowned for his calm on the ball, range of passing, and set-piece prowess.

After racking up 18 Serie B appearances last season, Tonali has since gone on to establish himself as a near ever-present in the Biancoazzurri’s midfield to this point in the current campaign, having failed to start just 1 league outing.

In addition, he has notched a goal and 5 assists across these showings.

Perfectly showcasing just how highly thought of Tonali is in his home country was the fact that Roberto Mancini opted to call the midfielder up to Italy’s senior squad in November of last year, despite the fact that he has never featured in a Serie A fixture.

Sounds like a really interesting prospect ...

@Roopy - seen him play?

Buy him now and loan him back

Don't even care I've never laid eyes on him. We need to break the Italian hoodoo and a defensive player is the way to go

Now you have ... and you're in love ...

Seems like a mix between Crespo and a goat.

Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Uruguay starlet Nicolas Acevedo, with scouts from Manchester United and Liverpool heading to watch the 19-year-old on international duty.
The youngster, who can operate both in defence and midfield, currently plies his trade in his homeland with Liverpool of Montevideo.
And the teenager is attracting interest from a host of European clubs, who are flocking to the South American Under-20 Championship in Chile, to see him in action.
As well as United and Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Championship promotion hopefuls Norwich City are all also watching Acevedo.
And they are joined by Italian side Udinese, who have scouted the competition to great effect in previous years.

His only goal in one of those videos was met by the Serie B version of Karius in goal. I'm much more excited by some of the highlights i'm seeing of Grujic on his current loan.

Fair point on him playing in the 2nd division but hes not a goal scorer so its not surprising his compilation doesnt include many. He looks a very strong intelligent player for 18 years of age, Grujic is nearly 23 so its not a fair comparison.

Given that Lallana, Milner and Henderson will all need to be replaced in the short/medium term we need to be looking at options. Grujic deserves a shot as does Jones.

I'm pleased Grujic is finally showing some progress. His main problem has been his mentality - he used to go seeking out a yellow card the way an alcoholic looks for his first pint of the day. Some of his challenges were absolutely idiotic. I was horrified when he was loaned to Neil Warnock, feeling he'd come back even worse, but to his credit Warnock actually improved him, but even he started using him sparingly as Cardiff entered the most pressurised part of their season - I think he knew there was still the chance of a mad challenge and a red card. But if now Grujic is starting to control himself, whilst retaining his aggression, he'd give us a really different and interesting option in midfield.

I saw some stats on twitter (that I can't find now) that showed their points per game with Grujic playing is 2.45 (or similar) and about 0.8 when he isn't.

I haven't seen him play more than a handful of games this season ... I'd say maybe 6-8 matches - ridiculously hard to find good streams for Serie B matches....

He is a very talented player indeed with a big future.

He plays the 'Regista' role in midfield - so essentially a deep-lying playmaker ... similiar to the roles Pirlo, Guardiola & Xabi Alonso played.

Tonali has been invited to train with the Italian national team at their HQ in Florence on numerous occasions and has essentially been learning his development from Allan (Napoli) & Verratti (PSG) ... Pirlo has also recently commenced his coaching badges in Florence and will have a lot to do with his development moving forward.

If I were to choose between Tonali & Rabiot - I'd 100% go with Tonali even if it means spending 40m - the baggage that Rabiot comes with (his mother is his agent and an absolute idiot) is simply not worth it for Klopp.

But on the other hand I cannot see Tonali moving abroad at such a young age - very few Italian players do.

With Khedira surely being in his final season at Juve + Emre Can being quite abysmal, the obvious destination would be Juventus - not only will they fork out a premium for him, but they'll send a few Academy prospects to Brescia too.

The kid is from the north of Italy as well - can't see him turning down Juve or Roma (technically a Southern club) if they come calling. Both clubs have several young Italian midfield prospects that they would be happy to include as part of any deal.

Good stuff. What I saw of Grujic in a few close season games after he first arrived left me quite impressed and I had definite hopes for him, so I've been disappointed with the way things have gone up till now. I've never given up on him though and I'd love to see the best version of him in the first team squad again.
