Another, perhaps more interesting, way to approach this is to ask which we need more: an attacking midfielder or a pacey wide forward.
Which would bring most benefit to the team, to the way we play?
Weirdly in both positions we probably only have one out an out first teamer and they're both pretty young. If left as the primary option in their position, who would you back over the course of the season, Sterling or Coutinho?
We also have promising young players who haven't quite broken through into the first team in both positions who could perhaps, in the way Sterling has done, make up for the lack of a signing. Who would you back - Ibe or Suso?

With Ibe to come through I think attacking mid is the one we need. Often suarez or Sturridge play out wide anyway
I think we should proceed on as follows:
attacking wide player: youth backup - Ibe. First team acquisition - Sanchez
CM reinforcements: youth back-ups: Rossiter/Can. First team acquisition: Markovic.
that should cost around 50-55m. We could sell Lucas/coady for around 8-10 to mean total spend on midfield is around 40m ish.
Markovic isn't a CM, He's a Winger.
Those sort of details don't really seem to matter much in these sort of threads, Markovic would be a more valid comparison to Sanchez, those 2 players are much more alike than Lallana is to either of them.
If the club wasn't being extorted for Lallana and Sanchez wanted to come then Liverpool would more than likely sign both.
Aren't we already tying up a deal for Shaqiri ? If so then that's our winger, so the question should be Shaqiri or Sanchez. Comparing either to Lallana is a poor excuse for a poll.

I thought it would be closer.
Modo has already said clearly that he doesn't want Lallana, so it's a bit of a transparent dig to then pick a Barca player that there's been a (very) tentative link to, just to make a point about how we might be overpaying or whatever.
Two completely different players and only one that we've genuinely been linked with. What's the point?

Id sign a player like Lallana as a squad option. We should be looking for definite starters.
Ok, put it another way, only one of them seems genuinely interested in us. The initial fee for Lallana was 15-20m, now its 25-30m. It'd be naive to think that Sanchez would go for the price being mentioned and even if he did, he would want twice the wages of Lallana and could probably get it at City or Chelsea.
Lallana isn't a 'winger' ... then again, Sanchez really isn't either.

Pay him twice the wages. He's fucking twice the player.
If we think we're about unearth this hidden talent within Lallana that will somehow eclipse all expectations and make him worth the money we're about to spend on him, think again.
For the record I dont hate Lallana, this is more about the how the money is being spent.
Rogers has said (im sure) that he wants versatility in his team, to be able to switch our style of play and formation without subs.
Surely then the likes of lallana, who has played on either wing, behind the striker, and even deeper (as well as having a phenomenal workrate), is a better option.

Hmm. I've been having a bit of an internal dialogue deciding whether to pick up on this point and decided to go with it - how does that work?
He can play in multiple positions but still with the same skill set so it's not like we get two types of players in one, right? It's a bit like David Silva who can play out wide as well as in the middle but no matter where he plays he's still that same floaty attacking midfielder.
If your budget is £20-£25m to sign a marquee player then any player is comparable? I'd take @red_maradona point that a bigger poll is required. When @red_maradona creates his poll I request the Mods close this thread. Cheers
