Sakho

When Klopp first arrived he seemed to rate Sakho. He picked him, even gave him the armband once or twice and had some very nice things to say about him. Something's gone badly wrong somewhere along the line.

That's probably about right. There were signs anyway under Rodgers when he left the ground early on derby day (I think?) and during the cup final against City when he had to come off. Maybe there's just been a clash of personalities there, who knows. The whole thing on camera during the US visit was a bit stupid too.

I can't imagine the club were impressed with the legal challenge to the drugs test. I know technically he has been cleared but i can imagine that taking a substance other than one recommended by our training staff makes him less trustworthy in their eyes.

His actions probably have the club in the crosshairs for the drugs testers too.

If he was a great player that would all be overlooked. He's not - but i still think i'd prefer him to Lovren.

Liverpool tell Sakho: You have to go on loan to save your Anfield career

Defender rejects Stoke and West Brom but Klopp still believes a loan spell would be best for ever

Liverpool have told Mamadou Sakho he needs to go out on loan in order to save his Anfield career.

The France international has already rejected the chance to join either Stoke City or West Brom on a temporary deal.
However, the Reds are still actively looking to loan the centre-back out prior to tomorrow night’s transfer deadline.
Jurgen Klopp has informed Sakho that he does have a future at Liverpool but he wants him to play regularly elsewhere over the coming months to prove both his fitness and his professionalism.
If Sakho, who hasn’t played for the Reds since the 4-0 rout of Everton on April 20, digs his heels in and stays put there’s a serious danger he will be stuck on the sidelines all season.

Klopp is happy with the centre-back options he has in Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan. The Reds boss also has Joe Gomez on the comeback trail after injury, while Lucas Leiva can provide defensive cover if required.
Sakho also needs regular action if he’s going to force his way back into Didier Deschamps’ France squad.

It’s been a torrid four months for the 26-year-old, who was accused by UEFA of failing a drugs test and missed Euro 2016 before being subsequently cleared.
The former Paris Saint-Germain captain was then sent home from the pre-season tour of America by Klopp for repeatedly breaking club rules. He was late for the team flight, late for a team meal and failed to turn up to a treatment session on an Achilles injury with Klopp accusing him of showing a lack of respect.

Sakho, who is now close to full fitness, was understood to be open to the idea of a loan spell. However, he expected bigger clubs than Stoke and West Brom to be keen on securing his services.

If Sakho doesn't leave he will be so frozen out by Klopp that he'll resemble a black snowman. Even Lucas will play ahead of him, I reckon.

What's the point in sending him on loan, If he's not wanted for this season then sell him. Either way it looks like we'll have another gap in our defensive cover.
It's like a fucking Sports Direct sale at the moment, Everything must go!

If nobody comes in with a serious bid for a player we want to sell, the point of a loan would be twofold: (a) the chance that he might impress the other club enough for them to buy him eventually and (b) getting a potentially bad apple out of our dressing-room. I agree it's not ideal, but it would be better than doing nothing IMO.

The Twitter rage this afternoon is hilarious. You'd think we're sending Franco fucking Baresi out on loan.

That being said, we're awfully short of quality numbers at the back. And Matip's gone for a month in Jan. No back up right back. Milner as first choice left back. Klopp's playing with serious fire.

Loan deal.. We probably will add a clause to recall him in Jan..

He's being a bit of a dick isn't he?

One injury to Clyne, probably on England duty because they're cunts, and we'll go into the new year with Moreno - Lucas - Klaven - Milner.

Going out on loan nearly always decreases the value of the player though doesn't it? Especially if he goes abroad where the clubs don't pay the ridiculous fees that english ones do. I'd rather keep him as a squad player for the inevitable spate of injuries as soon as the window is closed.
If Klopp doesn't trust him for disciplinary reasons or because of how he handled the dieting pills thing then he should have been sold months ago.

I really don't get it. We have barely any defenders left. At this rate we'll have Louvren, Matip (who goes to Africa cup of nations for a month) and Klavan at CB. And Clyne and Moreno at FB. Have we got some super last minute deal on the cards? Or are we really going into the season with fuck all defenders?

Can (listed as a defender for Germany) and Lucas. Trent and Randall (if he doesn't go out on loan to PNE) too?

*shudders

This transfer window seems like a cost cutting one.

Matip isnt involved with the Cameroonian national team, so as it stands he wont be going to the African Nations Cup.

No. He's taking a risk, but that's not the same thing.

That said, we'll need to be active in the January window at this rate.

Starting the season with a left back you don't trust and a midfielder at left back, no defensive midfielder and 3 senior centre halves, two of whom are new is kind of a dick move, especially if we don't sign a left back in January.

Lucas will be the 4th/5th CB this season.
I'm guessing Klopp sees it as this;

Matip, Lovren, Klavan, Gomez, Lucas

Clyne, Arnold, Milner, Gomez right back

Milner, Moreno, Gomez left back

Cameroon coach Hugo Broos has opted against calling up Schalke defender Joel Matip to the national team after being convinced the player lacks the motivation to give his all for the African nation.

Broos, who took over Cameroon earlier this year, phoned Matip, but was not impressed with the conversation he had with the Liverpool bound defender and feels it is better he stays at home.

As a result, Matip has not been called up for Cameroon's two African Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa at the end of this month.

"I talked to Joel, but I had the feeling that he was not motivated and did not want to come", Broos was quoted as saying by German daily WAZ.

"I want the players to be motivated and have a great desire to be part of the Indomitable Lions. If this is not the case, they are better off staying at home", the Belgian tactician added.

Good news for us.

I should have clarified that this article was from March and concerned the qualifying games rather than the actual tournament. But given that Matip didn't participate in the African Cup of Nations in 2015, I highly doubt he will in 2017. In fact since the 2014 World Cup he has played only one game for Cameroon.

Sakho joined Liverpool from Paris St-Germain for around £18m in September 2013
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has turned down moves to West Brom and Stoke City after being told he can leave on loan.
The 26-year-old France defender is free to resume his career after a doping case against him was dismissed by Uefa.
Sakho also was sent home from the club's pre-season tour of the USA following allegations of indiscipline.
He has been told that he is not currently part of Liverpool's first-team plans by manager Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool are hopeful Sakho will find a club before Wednesday's transfer deadline as it has been made clear he will have to move to get games.
The club have also agreed to sell forward Luis Alberto to Lazio, while defender Andre Wisdom is set to move to FC Red Bull Salzburg on a season-long loan.
