Sack him

Rafa was in sole charge of his purchases, and while he missed out on a fair few of his first choices (simao and alves spring to mind) he alone chose every player he signed a point he laboured over for years.
I dont believe Mr Rodgers has been afforded that same courtesy.
I also think its Churlish to talk about how a player has done after 6 months at the club and measure them against players who have been here for 6 years.

Rafa was a shambles in the transfer market the last couple of seasons. He was also tactically falling apart but there were many factors affecting that.

Id love to see some of our fans offer Mr Rodgers the same level of support they offer Rafa.

Rafa won number five in his first season. That buys a lot of credit with fans.

just to make things clear, fuck the short term contract. Give Rafa a 4 year contract.

That's bonkers mate!

Rafa was brilliant before Hicks and Gillett bought the club. Getting to two CL finals without a proper goal scorer was genius.

But afterwards when he started sporting a goatee, he was average apart from one season, when we had Carra, Alonso, Torres and Stevie at the top of their careers. His last season here was dreadful. He was beaten, blaming the lack of money when he wasted a fortune. He's been average at every job he's had since.

Rafa's best years were almost 10 years ago. He hasn't shown anywhere he can be that manager again.

You cannot get sustained success without Champions League qualification..

Champions League qualification is needed in order to compete... The financial rewards are huge.. and they getter bigger and bigger every season..

Well our chances of being in it next year are already wafer thin. We need to beat both the scum and the arse or we're truly fucked. And that won't happen.

Paco left. We had one season where we finished 2nd then Rafa declined.

Yeah, that's all well and good. Fact is we've had three managers since Rafa and we're back to square one again.

Rafa has a record Brendan can only dream of.

Sure bring in Klopp, let's see what he can do, Martin O'Neill or whoever is flavour of the year. But I doubt that anyone we bring in will have a better record than Rafa.

We made it into it last season after a five year absence, just because we may miss out this season doesn't mean we should throw away all the work we've done over the last two years under Rodgers and get back in someone who has achieved very little in the past 5 years on the short term.

I actually have no idea why I'm even discussing this with you to be honest.

Did Chelsea throw away everything when Rafa was appointed or did he guide them to the CL?

Rafa had a history of bizarre line ups, signing squad options and being at the helm during turgid displays. That's why I'm confused as to why you are clamoring for him to come back.

I did a quick search and yielding this return. You wanted Rafa gone it seems?

RedNinja, Oct 20, 2009

We lose at the weekend..

*and rafa will be gone... no question... Managers in this league have been sacked for much less.. why does he wait till 8 mins left to give his last roll of the dice ? and Voronin for Benayoun!!! ffs.. Shows how much faith he has in Babel...

*even if we do beat them its what we do after that, that concerns me more... Our squad is lacking to challenge... its like De Ja Vu.. the Houllier era all over again..

Says it all really, what a joke.

So get rid of Pascoe and Marsh and bring back Paco!

No, wait... Paco won the CL and came 5th in the league and since we can't win the CL this season and fifth isn't good enough...

Quite a conundrum!

Why has Napoli regressed under Benitez?
From being second in the table and getting out of the group stages every year to fourth in the league and playing Europa League?

60 million qualifying for the champions league is worth next season, double that of this season. you miss the boat you arguably fall further behind..

Lack of champions league means you attract players of less calibre and less sponsership.. we will see that in terms of transfers in January...

What work under Rodgers this season has moved us forward ?? we are going backwards... keeping him in charge under current form will continue to do the same..

There's no doubt Rafa's record is better than Brendan's but it doesn't change the fact all the good stuff in Rafa's career was almost 10 years ago: winning La Liga with Valencia and getting to two CL finals with us and winning one.

His record for the 5 past years is average including a dreadful year with us and a bad year with Inter.

If we were getting the Rafa of ten years ago, it make sense. Getting the current Rafa makes little sense.

The haven't regressed, they don't have the finicial clout like over here in premiership.. They sold all their best players... Benitez has had to work with the contraints he has been given

It makes no sense. And FSG will never entertain the idea anyway.

Yes they have regressed.
They sold Cavani and replaced him with Higuain right?
Since Rafa arrived there they have spent the most money in the league.

I don't think you could blame Rafa for Inter's demise. The writing was on the wall when he joined.. he was managing an ageing squad, a club in financial difficulty and on the decline..

It depends, I guess.

1 CL
2 League titles
2 x Uefa cup
1 Fa cup
1 Copa Italia
2 Super Cups
1 World Club Championship
vs

4 League titles
2 FA cups
1 League cup

If you're high or not.

Edited..

as a manager...

but as player kenny has won far more..

Kenny won a another league title with Blackburn. So I think he has four.
Also Kenny has won the super cup and other minor cups just like Rafa. I just excluded them.

We can't compare ourselves to Chelsea or City. They can buy their way out of every mistake they make.

I remember Rafa selling Sturridge to us. Or being with Chelsea when Sturridge was sold. Did he buy any significant players while in charge at Chelsea?
