Rugby World Cup 2015

I can't believe it. I must admit, at one stage I thought England were going to hammer them.

I'd love to see the looks the Welsh pack gave each other when England decided to kick to the corner.

Was it just me that thought the game changed when ford came on for burgess?

That kick......Ford or Farell (not sure which) but one of them bottled it

Well it made life easier for Roberts but it was still a bit of playmaking from a scrum half playing on the wing that got you back in the game.

I don't think it was the case that neither Farrell ( who split the posts with every kick) or Ford didn't fancy the kick. Robshaw was arrogant. If England had been clearly on top around the line-out you could say it was a confident call but they weren't. It was arrogant, and an insult to the Welsh pack not to take the three points. I think any captain that makes that call deserves to go home early

I didn't understand the Burgess substitution, but then why would you have a bench without anyone that could play centre or wing?

Lancaster has some hard thinking to do now.

Just woke up and I know today is going to be a good day. I think I'm going to take a walk in sunny Berkshire and reach out to as many suicidal looking Englishmen as I see (whilst obviously wearing as much Welsh gear as possible)

Totally agree about the Burgess substitution. He had clearly won the battle of the Titans against Roberts, who tried running at him to begin with but soon gave up the idea, and subbing him off ranks with Rafa taking Masher off in Athens as a clear game-loser.

Disagree about the penalty. I don't think Ford or Farrell were even consulted about the decision not to go for the 3 points and I'd guess they were even more puzzled than the rest of us about it. I wonder whether Robshaw had Japan's similar late choice at the back of his mind.

Lancaster let himself down after the match when he mithered about England's discipline. That defeat is on him and Robshaw, and on the Welsh team's refusal to give in. [Cough, splutter] Well played Wales.

Oh and despite saying 3/1 was a great price, I never bothered going to the bookies.

The bookies that I can see out the window of the apartment, 20 yards away.

JJ: he definitely consulted farrell, they had a little huddle before hand. Ultimately it's robshaws call though, but if farrell said no should he really take all of the blame?

Fair play, I missed that and, if Farrell did say no, then it isn't altogether Robshaw's fault. In theory he could still have told him to take the kick, but I can't imagine many if any captains would.

IMO it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway had Burgess (and Ben Youngs, who was giving your lads all kinds of grief sniping around the edges of the scrum) stayed on the pitch, and had there been less tinkering overall from Lancaster. Woodward in particular was scathing about that and he's always been very supportive of his successors, Lancaster included.

The yanks putting it up to Scotland so far.
Most of the group games have been terrific so far with the underdogs not lying down.
Best World cup I've seen in terms of competitive rugby.

Not a great game against Romania, but a number of people were playing after long breaks from internationals.

Cave, Zebo and Bowe showed signs of life, Earls played well too. I think Payne relegated himself to a bag holder.

Healy came through unscathed. Murphy and Henry had busy games.

It's shaping up nicely

Williams and HA ruled out of the competition, Hook and Anscombe called up. If Hook can slot in next to Jamie and produce some of the performances that his talent warrants, we might just get through this group.

Certainly, but so could we and the Wallabies. I reckon you need to aim for a bonus point against Fiji, and Gatland will have a tricky balance to strike there in terms of further injuries because Fiji will pose a stiff physical challenge.

Gatlands focus on physicality seems to be having an effect.

A bonus point win over Fiji is easily possible, as is staying within 7 of Australia.

If Joseph isn't back for England, what will England do?

Don't really know, but my guess is he might stick with the side which started the game against the Welsh. Questions were (understandably) raised about the Barritt/Burgess duo but in the event it didn't do too badly in that first half, especially in defence which may well be at a premium on Saturday. Farrell is OK at centre but it isn't his true position, I'm not sure it's Slade's either - though he's a talented footballer - and in any case Slade isn't ready for a starting role in a World Cup IMO.

England's discipline cost them dearly against Wales, they'll need to improve that or the Aussies will punish them.

I'm not sure how much their discipline - which does need improvement, it's true - cost them against the Taffs. The two sides more or less cancelled each other out in that respect and I don't buy the England camp's attempt to suggest that that was the deciding factor last Saturday.

Did it not allow Wales to stay within touching distance? The Welsh kicker (is his name Biggar? ) looks very awkward in his build-up to his kicks.

It did, and we should have done better as I accepted in my previous post, but without Lancaster's messing around in the second half we'd still have won. I rate the guy but it was emphatically not his finest hour.

Awkward? Haha

I couldn't figure out if he was calling NFL plays or dealing with a swarm of midges.

He has some OCD issues

A friend told me he has Tourette's syndrome and I believed him.
