I can't help think United could end up better off if he did go.

Wayne Rooney has removed the term "Manchester United player" from his twitter page and replaced it with "NikeUK athlete" following his demand to Sir Alex Ferguson a fortnight ago to leave the club this summer.

While United are clear the striker is not for sale, according to a well placed source Rooney is valued at £40m by United, so if a serious offer was made for him this may at least be explored. United are interested in bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, from Real Madrid, so the potential transfer of Rooney would help finance any deal.

Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are potential suitors for the 27-year-old who has endured an uneven season for United.

While it is not known why Rooney removed the description from his Twitter feed, the timing of it further heightens the sense of his disgruntlement with life at United.
At the meeting with Ferguson the outgoing manager told Rooney he could not leave and that remains United's stance. Rooney's camp have declined to comment on his position.

40 million for that bag of spuds.

That would be a great deal for utd if they get it.

paying £40m for someone in the final part of their career who looks like he peaked years ago, how does west London sound Wayne?

I hope not, that cash would likely pay for Felliani and Baines on top of whatever budget they already have.

Its clear he has peaked, they want to cash in now, he wants one last mega bucks contract so it suits all parties for him to leave. He will cost at least 35 million and he will want about 12 million a season in wages so whoever buys him is certainly not getting a bargain.

City might do it just to piss them off

Gives Gollum a chance to assert himself straight away. If he has any sense he'll give Rooney the heave-ho and move on. Placating him would be storing up trouble, so as Trollio says, lets hope he does.

id pay probably up to £27 mill, if we had the spare cash obvisouly, a fair price is probably around £22 mill but obvisouly a fair price is completely irrelevant these days

i dont think he would, i think it's more to do with his ambitions rather than who we are though.

edited, ive been making notes for revision and have just been throwing random words in there and missing half of the sentence out. I just got an essay back where the last sentence was "even though they failed on a universal level " just randomly trailing off, i dont know how im an english student to be honest

it's because you're allowed to talk bollocks like that in english.

nah it was language, where they like to think theyre all scientific about these things, the essay got slated but still managed a 2.1, i honestly have no idea what i would have had to do to get a 2.2

you basically just have to pay your fees and you'll get a 2.1.

i did karate for a bit when i was a kid, i became dissilusioned with it all cause i asked the guy who ran it how to move up a belt, he said "just pay for it". Its a bit like that.

i know man. the system has failed on a universal level. the use of the word 'system' here provides a meta-contextual exegesis of the systemitised structural corpos of language enmeshed in it's own redundancy.

Out of the match day squad today after a bust up with Jones.
Rooney needed stitches...

As someone on Twitter said, probably fighting about who is the most ugly player in the Premiership...
