Rodgers the Dodger

The guy was put in a position he should never have been put in by FSG. He was a bright young coach, just making his way as a manager, who was promoted far above his current experience and competence by a bunch of dazzled Americans. If he'd just been left alone to develop, who knows, he might have won a couple of things, learnt from his mistakes, and maybe, one day, genuinely earned the right to be considered. Now he'll have to recover from this and take several steps backwards, whilst watching Gary Monk do what he might have done. So it's hurt the club and it's hurt him, too. It's been a horrible error by FSG, who compounded the error by bowing to his idealistic demand for power instead of insisting on a DofF. An all-round shambles.

And if he goes now, presumably Mr Miserable O'Driscoll will follow, after just a couple of months. Talk about embarrassing. And the new manager will probably want several players shipped out in January and several expensive replacements brought in. All of this done by directors who only seem to follow games via the International Herald Tribune.

He had a track record to back it up as you say. He also put the club first, even before his family. Rafa is a weird man but an honest weird man that will put the club first.

So ego is now ok.

How has Rodgers not put the club 1st?

I agree with everything in your first paragraph, but are you seriously suggesting that today's debacle is some sort of evil plan by Rodgers in his efforts to get more power?

Both Barrett and Bascombe have said that Rodgers benched players last season and the only reason being that the TC signed them. He wanted to show that he won't play players if they aren't his signings. It is up to you and everyone else to believe them or not. He already got more power if you believe for example Barrett. So his protests last season worked but at the same time he is more vulnarable. He can't hide behind anything. If the results isn't good enough then it is his fault.

Never mind more power. How could any sane person think dishing up rubbish like today and against West Ham get you anything but the sack.

Madrid away last season one example. Benching TC signings another example.

I don't think Rafa have a big ego and that is why he didn't made good enough results the last few years and didn't survive as our manager. To survive at the top you must have a big ego but without being arrogant.

Madrid - was it a bad team? compare the two results ...
benching tc - seems like conspiracy bollocks ("rafa benched Crouch in Athens" like)

I think Dirty Sanchez said it in the match thread, that Rodgers seemed to be thinking about the media headlines tomorrow when making decisions when we were 1-0 down.
I think ego is a huge fucking weakness in a manager. And everything about Rodgers screams ego and image.

He's making decisions from a position of weakness and they don't stand up to any rational scrutiny. He seems to feel the need to emphasise how good we are defensively even when we concede three. It's odd.

I think there's plenty of talent in the squad. Rodgers may well eventually realise how to make the most of it, eventually.

He benched Gerrard, Henderson, Coutinho and Sterling. Says it all. Borini and Markovic played for example. Allen instead of Henderson. So yes, it was a bad team. A team that would struggle to finish in the top 15 in the PL.

So that shows his ego? Either it shows he didn't care about the game, or he's stupid ...

Again, it's hard to find the energy to care. I'd blown my load on this by the time fsg decided to not fire him and what else can be said? It was already obvious back then.

This.

Let us not forget a good half dozen fucking sackably atrocious performances at the end of last season also.
After wasting massive wodges of cash last time out and being backed again.... To roll into old Trafford and play with absolutely no balls.... Fuck that.
Fuck off.

If I was an opposition manager I wouldn't play a goalkeeper against a Brendan Rodgers team.
It's worth the risk innit.

How long will he last then?
We've got Bordeaux away and then 4 home games on the trot. Then Everton away.

It's a travesty if he lasts even a minute from today.

Am surprised at the lack of utter outrage at yesterday's performance. It was Hodgson level gutless cowardice.

Ings and Firmino as defensive wing-backs. Three CMs all tucked in. The DM playing so deep he was a third CB.

Against Manchester United. That is unforgivable in a Liverpool manager.

I'm seething just thinking about it. As embarrassed I've ever felt as a Liverpool fan.
