...probably.

From the Echo:

Brendan Rodgers has today held “positive” talks with Liverpool chairman Tom Werner as part of the club's end-of-season review.

Rodgers met with Werner and Fenway Sports Group executive Mike Gordon in Liverpool city centre to assess a disappointing campaign with the Reds having failed to win silverware or qualification to the Champions League.

The talks are believed to have been progressive, with both parties having agreed to move forward together.

It would therefore confirm the long-held belief there is no appetite for FSG to change manager despite Rodgers commenting after the dire 6-1 defeat to Stoke City on the final day of the campaign that “if the owners want me to go, then I go”.

Rodgers was expected to be quizzed on where the season went wrong, what mistakes were made, his opinion of the transfer committee and his plans for the future.

Werner arrived in Merseyside on Tuesday night, with completing a free transfer deal for chief summer target James Milner also high on his agenda.

Liverpool have already held advanced talks with the 29-year-old, whose contract at Manchester City expires at the end of the month, and are believed to have offered a deal in the region of £150,000 a week.

And while City are making late efforts to persuade Milner to stay, the player has been reluctant to commit his long-term future over fears of a lack of playing time, with Liverpool a more likely opportunity for more regular football in his preferred central role.

Arsenal are among several other clubs interesting in Milner but Reds chiefs want to tie up the deal in the next few days, with the player involved in England's friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifier versus Slovenia.

Confident of capturing Milner, Liverpool will then turn their attention to Danny Ings, another player out of contract in the summer.

Ings, also being tracked by Tottenham Hotspur, is understood to prefer a move to Anfield, but aged just 22 the Burnley striker would command a fee set by a tribunal, despite being available on a free transfer.

Liverpool must improve their bid for Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne having had a £10m offer rejected, while they are pondering an approach to Aston Villa over Belgian forward Christian Benteke.

Seeing as Klopp and Ancelotti arent available now and De Boer apparantly wants to stay at Ajax. This was bound to happen.
He'll be under pressure from the first match to deliver. Klopp will be linked with the job all through the first part of the season if we play poorly.

As said earlier if there arent any better alternatives stick with Rodgers.

My prediction is that he'll be gone by December and Klopp hired.

No quotes.. speculative at best...

The echo and it's unbiased agenda 😉

Any Other club.. and Rodgers would be sacked.. no but at Liverpool, we have a tradition... a plan in place..

Fuck me...

@Sheik Yerbouti time to sell your season ticket on m8...

Don't know about December but I could certainly see it happening this time next year unless we have a stellar season.

You are probably right with that, though I could see him going before hand.. Spotlight will be on him in the first half of the season if he stays..

Bad start.. and come crimbo.. he will be gone..

Unless he changed inside the building and then changed again before he left, Rodgers turned up for the meeting in jeans and a Harrington. Talk about casual!

Ah, the infamous 'Fred Perry jacket', that's all they were known as when they were fashionable so everyone wore them to school.

Mid 90s that was. King of fashion is our Brendan. That is unless they've come back unto fashion again, which wouldn't surprise me, what with the inclination to wear skinny 'carrot fit' jeans & loafers without socks being so prevelant.

Great, you can't start telling us in October again that he'll be gone by Christmas.

They might be waiting for Klopp.

Probably not if they're signing all his shit targets.

Fucking pissflaps.

Is it that clear cut though? It sounds like they are the clubs targets as much as Brendan's.

I find it a bit odd that we would be pursuing deals this week, while Rodgers is set to have crunch talks not knowing what his future holds.

It sounds as though we have a committee signing players regardless of managerial situations. Which puts a different perspective again on last years fantastic deals.

Nothing wrong with a Harrington.

I have a couple of G4s. Boss jacket.

Cue the double announcement of Milner / Ings by Friday pm to put a gloss on the week. Maybe Clyne too..

No I think it's obvious that these are Rodgers' signings.

Bascombe:

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been given the go-ahead to revive his and the club’s fortunes next season following talks with his hierarchy.

Rodgers met chairman Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group President Michael Gordon on Tuesday where – as expected – the primary focus was how to reshape the side to achieve his targets next season, formulating a ‘comprehensive plan for improvement’. After two hours of talks it was confirmed Rodgers remains in charge, although it remains to be seen if there will be any changes to personnel behind the scenes.

Beyond the clarity on Rodgers' position, no details regarding Liverpool’s plan of action have been revealed at this stage, but the club wants to return to the Champions League and get back to the stylish, attacking football that led to a title challenge in 2014. Rodgers will certainly be backed with several new signings in order to achieve those ambitions.

Brendan Rodgers had to explain Liverpool's difficult season

The conversations with Werner – who flew to England on Monday - have been described as ‘positive, good and productive’ with Liverpool reiterating Rodgers’ position as manager was never on the agenda – the club has delivered that message consistently despite a disappointing campaign.

Rodgers spoke openly after Liverpool’s calamitous final day to defeat to Stoke City, admitting it was inevitable serious questions would be asked about his role, but even then his bosses moved to quell suggestions the outcome of an end-of-season review would end in dismissal.

Privately, club sources persistently dismissed claims Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti were under consideration to replace Rodgers.

Brendan Rodgers faces a battle to keep hold of Raheem Sterling

Although Rodgers will have faced some difficult questions regarding Liverpool’s underperformance, the will remains to see him continue and develop as a coach at Anfield.

Rodgers can now press ahead securing reinforcements with deals for James Milner and Danny Ings agreed in principle. Providing there are no late hitches, both will officially join the club on July 1.

Liverpool will also try to secure the signatures of Christian Benteke and Nathaniel Clyne, but are braced for a summer of resisting several bids for winger Raheem Sterling.

Werner has several departmental meetings to attend for the rest of the week, ahead of attending the Premier League shareholders meeting in London this Thursday.

I'd presume that FSG have another potential manager now in place with a time frame agreed. Rodgers has a couple of months into the next season to prove he can turn it around or he's out and someone else, hopefully Klopp, comes in. That's just my guess but certainly someone like Peter Robinson would have proceeded like that in such a situation.

Pissflaps indeed. We're fucked next season. He has no plan based on the signings . What a depressing summer this is going to be. Strangely wish it upon us that we are doing badly come oct/nov and he gets the boot then. Hopefully klopp and even Carlo are free then.
