I should be asleep, but I'm feeling too excited.

I've seen this thread scores of times over the past few years, but I never dreamed I'd be starting one.

I have a cab coming to fetch me in 4 and a quarter hours for my flight in 6 hours, so I should turn in.

Will try to log in in Singapore if I can, but if I can't...I hope it's a great match for everyone, and good luck to us all.

(Good luck meaning no one gets injured, the result isn't tht important..though I do hope we put in a better performance than against Thailand)

I wish everyone could come along for the game.

If anyone's reading this and going, please PM me.

Good night, and YNWA.

Have a good one Avvy. Just make sure you don't soil your kecks with man juice when they walk onto the pitch.

And we moan about having a four hour drive to the game. The Far East tour is awesome for you guys, I'm well chuffed for you guys, hope you enjoy it. You guys deserve it with the times you have to stay up to watch the games, I hope they put on a good show for you.

What is there to shop in Singapore that we don't have in Malaysia and cheaper too. Sightseeing... hmmm what can one do in a day? Maybe go into the city and walk abit and then have some hawkers food (what is good?). Drinking is out of the question with two young sons. Singapore concoctions of local drinks might be an idea, maybe.

Hmm.

Singapore and Malaysia are so close culturally that its hard to think of something that we have and you dont have, and vice versa. Maybe you can go down to Orchard Road to have a look? There are a couple of new malls like ION and Orchard Central.

If you want food, you really should go to Chinatown and have a look. Just soak in the atmosphere and the food's good too.

I think the closest place for you, if you dont want to go to the city would be Causeway Point at Woodlands. You can try the Ya Kun coffee and toast at the basement. The food court on the 4th or 5th floor is not bad too. There's a sports shop called Sportslink, maybe you can get some Liverpool apparel there. The Great Singapore Sale is on so maybe you can get some good deals.

Oh another thing, if you can go to Adam Road, you should try the Nasi Lemak there. Apparently the Sultans of Brunei and Johor get their assistants to go and buy from there when they're in Singapore.

Was in Causeway Point last night and bought a Sony Ericson for my son, subscribing to M1 Sunsaver plan since he is tertiary education here.

Yakun i have eaten before the last time, we have similar in Malaysia called Old Town.

Am so not into malls as we have very similar too. Where is Adam Road? I am game for Chinatown too. How can I get to this two places (nearest MRT/Bus)?

There's Old Town in Singapore too! The coffee's really good.

You can take the MRT to Chinatown. Take the train down to Dhoby Ghaut station and change to the North East Line. Alight at Chinatown station and you can just take a walk around.

Adam Road is a bit more inaccessible and I'm not sure how to get there. However I think this can help.

Yeah Old Town White Coffee Rocks. Beats Starbucks anytime and at one fifth the price. Old Town originates from my hometown, Ipoh. The kueh teow soup is good as well.

Ok I shall ask my son re Adam Road.

Last night I had braised duck rice, something I have not eaten for a long long time. Brings back some memories. These are stuff I am look for. I think Chinatown might be the place to savour. Any local delicacies I should look out for? I was tempted by the duck feet, liver, pigs ear, etc last night but then it was too late. Might try some today.

My son says tomorrow we go to Kallang MRT and walk, most likely early.

Ha, so Geylang is like the Bugis Street of old?

There will be other times, Q.

Hang in there.

It's what we do.

Right, I’m back.

Apologies for the delay, but I (and the missus) flew into Singapore with a sore throat and one night of screaming and singing has left me in very bad shape. In fact, I've picked up something quite nasty and am on antibiotics now.

I’m glad I was able to return home at all, and was convinced I’d end up tripping the thermal scanners at the airport and be forced to spend some days in quarantine.

Anyway, we landed in Singapore at about 9.35 am on the 25th and promptly spent nearly as long in the Immigration queue as we did in the plane.

The plane had a bunch of Reds wearing our shirts in it (some original and some not-so-original), but the bad turbulence put an end to any ideas I had of walking around and saying hello.

But we finally cleared Immigration and made way to the subways ie the Mass Rapid Transits (aka the MRT) and pored over the map figuring our how to get to our destination.

In Singapore, only the very rich drive; so it’s a good idea to memorise the train routes early.

I met some Reds on the MRT, and chatted for a while with them..these Reds were part of the Indonesian BigReds (more on them later)

We found our way to my wife’s friend’s apartment and then shot off for lunch and then Clark Quay along the Singapore River; for the river cruise.

It was absolutely packed, and I couldn’t BELIEVE the number of Reds milling around the river-banks.

So we walked around, and then my wife had the bright idea of having lunch at Hooters, which was alongside Clark Quay.

Food was tolerable, although as one would have guessed, no one goes there for the food.

The problem with that was firstly, most of the women there weren’t blessed as I’d have liked; and secondly it’s a bit hard to ogle at women’s breasts when your wife is sitting next to you.

I still think Hooters was a test that I failed.

Anyway, Hooters was filled with Reds as well, and we did say hello to some of them.

Everybody was wearing Red shirts (or the new ‘Phantom’ or whatever) and so of course we were all friends.

Anyway, we all just waited and waited and watched the crowds grow.

I didn’t know it, but about 25,000 people all told were waiting and walking around the river waiting for the boats.

When I first read about the ‘River Cruise’ it struck me as a bit cheesy, but it was a real sight to watch all those people get baked in The Lying Rag, many singing and shouting as every boat which passed was given a rousing ovation even the team wasn’t in it.

(A special mention to the BigReds of Indonesia ie their supporter’s club who were belting out songs for what seemed like forever)

A huge roar went up as one boat came by which was full of Westerners because they thought it was the team boat.

It wasn’t; it was some tourists; a few of whom were also dressed in Liverpool colours and proceeded to shout and clap; one even bowed in homage to the mass of Red on the shore-line.

Which was something I felt like doing too.

But eventually, the moment arrived and the team boats came.

I think there were 3, I don’t remember much of it except my wife later told me that I went completely crazy and started jumping and shouting when the boats streamed by.

And then I saw them, Kuyt and Pepe and Mascher and all of them; it’s clear now why Kuyt will always have a special place in my heart. He was thrilled to see the response and he was visibly encouraging the fans..at one point, he was even jokingly trying to get the boat to the banks to encourage the fans to jump on board.

It didn’t of course..but it was so good to see.

Pepe too was bounding along, and most of the players were at least glad to be there.

All except for one pony-tailed cunt who sat in the boat with a big fuck-off headphones strapped to his head the whole time; he didn’t even wave to the fans who were all frantically waving at them and trying to get the team’s attention.

I was a bit disappointed tho; the crowd on the other bank was larger than the crowds on my side, so it was natural that the players and club officials were waving at the other side; the boats even drew much closer to the other river-bank.

But after a few seconds, one person turned around and realized that there was a huge bunch of Reds on my end as well, he then pointed at ME.

Well, I don’t care what anyone says, he was looking at ME and pointed at ME, and then he began waving at ME (and the rest of the crowd); he even got some of the others to wave at us too.

It was of course, our greatest ever, the best ever, the incomparable, the peerless, the magnificent Kenny Dalglish.

I felt Touched by an Angel.
(to be cont.)

Hooters with your wife?!

Ha, anyway sounds like you enjoyed it and atleast you picked the right friendly to watch out of the lot so far.

[/quote]

It's EASY, you mad fool - you just look below her neck!

As the boats left, a huge mass of Reds were following them.

I later learnt that some people had actually followed the boats all the way.

I wanted to follow suit, but my wife wanted to see some of her family members living in S'pore so I gave it a miss.

She’d followed me all the way to Singapore and offered lunch at Hooters, so I had to give something in return 8)

It was late by the time we finished, I’d hoped to have been able to meet Y1…but hopefully next time…the city was filled with Reds walking around just soaking up the atmosphere…I never did make it to Harry’s Bar at Chijmes tho, so I never managed to meet Roger Rederer and his 2 fists, if he was there…but since he’s a Red, I hope he had a good time regardless.

The next day, I was supposed to meet some friends for lunch and drinks around the Orchard MRT area; these were the same friends whom I’d met in Bukit Jalil stadium for the Manc game.

I’d done a banner for my friend who’d passed away, and I wanted to give it to them early in case I missed them at the game.

I’d thought that the banner would have been very clear in the stadium, but as you saw there were scores of banners up, some of which have been posted on here.

There was a definite buzz in the city that day, it was GAME DAY!

Besides, as the seats weren’t numbered I wanted to make sure I got good ‘seats’ ; more on that later.

My friends were held up shopping in Little India and wanted to get back to their hotel to rest a bit, so I decided that I was going ahead to the stadium without them.

I’d waited most of my life for this, they could catch up with me later.

So around 3 or so, me and the missus trudged off to the MRT to catch the train to Kallang; I’d been told to catch a cab from the station as it was too far to go on foot.

Even though it was just 3.30 or so, the train was filled with Reds..even though the match was scheduled to start in 4 hours.

Everyone was buzzing, but I felt a bit nervous..

Would it be a good game?...Would it be anywhere near as magical as the nights in Anfield?

Would my wife finally get why I was such a loon about Liverpool?

I secretly hoped my wife would be impressed; and that she'd understand why I sat on the floor in a daze after we demolished the Scum at the Toilet.

And why you must never say 'there's always next season' or 'it's just a game'; or my personal favourite..'will you get back inside you are not jinxing the team they don't even know you'

Still, she's coming around...when she was travelling last monthshe bought us matching shirts..the outgoing green away shirts and she wanted us to wear that...I'd preferred to wear Red of course, but she didnt have any that fit her well.

We got to Kallang station, but we didn’t get a cab to the stadium.

There was already a Red River streaming towards the distance, we could see the floodlights…so to hell with this, we’re walking.

I suppose I should have been more excited and sung more raucous songs, but the truth is I was still nervous.

This is the kind of thing I’d heard about, and read about for years…and FINALLY I was going to get my chance to sample just a little taste of it.

It wasn’t the real thing of course, and I will make sure I have a chance someday.

But it was still the next best thing.

Walking with a sea of Reds to the stadium, I didn’t even know how far we walked.

Finally we got there.

There was already a huge number of people there, and it was just 10 past four.

It was the first time my wife had seen anything like it, and she couldn’t help taking photos like a tourist.

She wanted to buy a jester hat, I said NO, of course.

We made our way in, East of Anfield was there passing out song lyrics….and it was all a bit carnival-like...the sight of Carlsberg stands was a great help ;D...granted, it's not very good...but it beats some other isotonic crap they were selling.

Granted, I should have scoffed at the song sheets, but I took 2 anyway.

Luckily, as it happened.

We made our way past the stiles and past the gates, and then we saw it.

A Red Sea had already formed in the Kop Stand, and it already covered nearly half the stand.

And it was loud.

They were already chanting and shouting the names of players, particularly Gerrard, (even in absentia) Alonso and Torres.

The Torres bounce got lots of airings, as did Team of Carraghers,Rafa Rafael..and some Singaporean Alonso chant…and while Y1 may not write about it, ‘Who the Fuck are Man Utd’ was very popular... ;D

I think some deejays are going to get in trouble for that one.

Kallang is a very old stadium, and it’s scheduled for demolition next year, I think.

Only a small section is covered, so it was absolutely BOILING hot that evening.

Most of the stadium isn’t seated, it’s all benches.

The atmosphere was fantastic, even if there weren’t that many songs being sung initially…even tho Jamie Yeo of ESPN tried to get the ground going with YNWA.

(Credit to her tho for trying, since she’s supposed to be a Gooner)

Nice arse and legs too.

(I wished they’d have sung FOAR tho; I sang it to myself in the stands but only got a smattering of support)

This was when I was glad I’d brought in the song sheet.

I was forgetting the words!

These were songs I’d known and sung for years, but now, in the STADIUM, I was forgetting the words.

I still can’t explain it, although maybe I was too excited.

It was far better than the Scum game, but was a bit disorganised.

It wasnt easy getting the songs going, but as we soon found out, once we DID start,we wouldnt stop.

By this time, my friends had arrived, 3 of them.

There were supposed to be 5 of them, 3 Reds and 2 Mancs.

One of the Mancs couldn’t make it since he had some stuff to attend at the last minute; besides he wasn’t that keen to come obviously.

The other absentee (who was a Red) had of course passed away last month.

They’d actually offered one extra ticket to someone, but just as they came into the stadium, I was told that the replacement was held up somewhere too and couldn’t make it either.

I was a bit annoyed at this, I fully understood wanting to keep my friend’s ticket unused.

He was supposed to have been there, but there were now 2 unused tickets going a-begging.

I remember sitting in his apartment sometime in May and we were all excited about the game and how we planned to spend the weekend and all that.

Now he was gone.

However, I had hoped that the other ticket would have been taken up by someone.

Someone who’d have loved to come.

Having said that, it was clear to me that all too many people hadn’t been able to come.

(more later)

04:35: Muggers emerged from the shadows in the gloaming hours and took my ability to use paragraphs.

I'll just have to soldier on from now on in with oddly separate declarative sentences.

I was just a child.

Do you have any idea what its like?

Damn this city.
