Refereeing

The whole of the ball has to be across the line. I don't think it was.
You are kidding right....

ZOOM AND ENHANCE!

poor old spurs can't catch a break

v manu -
the ball is miles over the line - result = no goal

v chelsea -
the ball doesn't totally cross the line - result = goal

If the ball was on the line and in the air, it would have been at about Kings elbow.
Terry is lying on the ground with ball just above his private area.
Use the stripes on his shorts as a reference.

Look at the Spurs player's foot that blocks the ball.
It is at full extension and when it is grounded after hitting the ball with it's sole, it's heal is is in contact with the goal line.
Not a goal, no way did the ball cross the line

Atkinson is an appalling referee BTW. He and Lee Mason are the worst of the lot IMHO. I used to think he was biased against us, but now I reckon he's just generally sh!t.

I reckon Atkinson has been the worst for years but this season Kevin Friend has quite comfortably beaten him to the title

I remember a few years ago reading an Q& A sort of thing with a load of them , probably in FourFourTwo . Anyway usually with those things everyone comes across as ok , laughs about their fuck ups etc . But these refs were a right bunch of cunts and came across so arrogant is was scary .

I just don't know for the life of me why a few small things regarding Reffing and FA policy aren't changed . Like why can't they come out after a game . hold their hands up and admit to a mistake ? . If they did that most sane people would understand but as it is, it seems so arrogant that they won't ever take any responsibility or criticism .

And why can't they we hear their mics like in other sports ? that will soon lead to footballers showing more respect if they know it's all being heard . I mean in so many other sports like Rugby , AFL etc you can hear discussions and you never hear them getting too much abuse . But i guess in those sports they seem so less arrogant and get more respect all round .

Mic'ing the refs up would see a massive change almost overnight IMO.

There's no way players would wish sponsorship deals etc by mouthing off knowing it would be broadcast.

As sky like as much coverage as possible I'd be amazed if they didn't insist on it in the next contract talks.

To be absolutely fair to Atkinson he did apologise to 'Arry after allowing that "goal" at the weekend. Presumably he saw a video, which begs the question why that isn't available to referees during matches.

I agree that there's a difference between football and those other sports but I doubt that difference is mainly to be found among the refs themselves. I'm afraid my bet would be that it stems mainly from the players, too many of whom in football are immature oafs with sh!t for brains.

would be good if there was a 'ref league' of all the refs right down to the conference, and like teams in the football league refs get promoted and demoted.
you have 'for' points (good calls), 'against' points (bad calls). thus the cream will rise to the top and the poor refs will drop to the lower leagues and whoever wins the ref league gets the fa cup final. this is far more fair method with regards to getting rid of poor refs as it's results over the course of the season rather than a single game.

Even if the ball is over the line - isnt Terry in an offside position there ? Seeing as it hit him as well

Might that depend on whether any other opposition player's feet besides Assou-Ekotto's are closer to the goalline than his? If yes, it's impossible to tell and the benefit of such doubt is supposed to go to the attacking side.

Worst idea ever. There needs to be less media coverage and spotlight on the cunts. But yeah, let's hand them a trophy at the end of their season.

I don't think Neil's advocating any kind of media circus. There's something similar in place already, with refs quietly being demoted or promoted each season.

Who was that young referee who got a premier league game this year or last? Could have been a Chelsea or Man Utd game. He was excellent and don't think he has been seen since?

Wasn't giving refs mics suggested a while back on the back of how it's used in rugby union? But in rugby union, players don't tell refs to "fuck off" to their faces.

The worst ref for me is that idiot Kevin Friend, hate it when i see he's reffin a game.

Yes. Lee Mason goes out looking like a bloke who's just watched every shite Jason Statham movie available and then re-read his school diaries to refresh all the simmering resentment that runs through his body. He's always looking for victims. Kevin Friend just looks hopelessly clueless from start to finish - I've not seen a ref look so out of his depth for many years.

My friend is doing his dissertation on attitudes towards referees in Rugby union and Football. In RU they have to call the ref "Sir" and only the captain speaks to the ref. I know that's how it's supposed to work in football, but with the majority of players been un-educated mongrels I can see the difference in approach.

all this diving epidemic and bad refereeing has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with FA manipulating FIFA into reviewing the case for video technology.

Kevin Friend has never been a referee for a Man Utd game!
