Realistic Striker Targets come Jan?

Is Kevin Davies at the end of his contract or something? Why would Bolton be interested in letting him go for nothing?

Rafa didn't want to. It was Crouchy who insisted on a transfer in order to get regular first team football.

I think there was a bit more to it than that JJ, like not getting a fair crack of the whip.

regards

He certainly did not help with free flowing attacking football. There is no way he would have got near the starting XI over the last 2 years if Torres was fit, so good riddance. He is however a decent striker and a thoroughly pleasant bloke.

If we have to shop in the bargain basement I'd go for Kevin Doyle and yes I am Irish

Cosidering our best striker couldnt make it here I dont think Kevin Doyle is the answer. Plus I dont think he would be in the bargain basement price range.

I stand by the Benni McCarthy on a free suggestion I made. I have not heard anyone who might provide better value and be prepared to sit on the bench a lot.

I've now been pondering on this question for almost a week and I'm still rather lost for any good, valid suggestions.

Besides Higuain (who could come rather cheap-ish beacuse he's been degraded to a benchwarmer) I'm blank.

Last year I tipped striker Djiby Fall for some kind of greatness (played for Danish side OB at the time) but I'm not sure he's doiing that well in the Russian league with Lokomotiv these days. He's a strong, fast lad, who scored loads of goals and won most headers too.

Maybe our best bet is to get Nemeth home and promote Pacheco as well. Why not?

He'd be what 6Million and although I wouldn't have him as my first choice given more cash, I think he'd be a much better alternative to what we have currently, I also think he'd do better than Keane did as he'd fit our system better as he's more of a targetman than Robbie

He was signed by Wolves for £6m. They would surely want more than that.

Anyway I think its a non runner I'd be stunned if we were to be anyway interested in Kevin Doyle

There wont be £6 mil to spend, unless the yanks sell some shares off. Would it not be better waiting until summer before we go spending wads of cash?

6million and wads of cash, christ we are fucked aren't we?

Your probably right though we should keep the cash for the summer as we are winning nothing this year

Now we're practically out of the CL, I don't see us spending a penny in January.

He's over weight, lazy, has an attitude problem and wants to leave because he doesn't want to sit on the bench.

10mil for Darren Bent last summer was always a bargain. The bloke scores 15 goals a season for Charlton and Spurs, he'd have a field day with us. Obv he's not foreign/Spanish/Championship Manager enough but in terms of goals in the real World, he was easily worth a 10mil punt.

Agree with that as far as it goes, but I doubt he'd have accepted becoming Torres' stand-in.
[/quote]

God forbid we play two strikers in the same team eh?

Rightly or wrongly, that isn't the way Rafa lines 'em up. As it happens I'd have preferred us to keep that as a Plan B at least, but Rafa's usual line-up would always contain just the one "point man" and that was always going to be Torres except in case of injury. That's one of the things which have made it so incredibly difficult to make the right signing up front.

Wrongly. That's obvious.

The football we played in the latter part of last season, from the Real tie onwards, says it isn't.

Oh, LAAAAASSSTTTT season.

Great. This season we're fucked.

6CM deemed him shit in the summer.

Me and Anita, and maybe one or two other championed his signing but were largely in the minority.

"Not good enough for LiverpooL". Christ, and when we've got Voronin on the books...

Because of individual player inadequacies though, not because of the system. Changing that won't help if the same players are underperforming/absent. It could even make things worse if it gives them something else to worry about.

This is the 2nd thread I'm on where people are telling me how good they are. I fucking raised both issues too!
Darren Bent should have been a shoo in last summer, chance missed there.
Never mind.

His attitude utterly fucking stinks Nessie. He's done nothing at Blackburn in over 2 years.
