Kevin. Fucking. Davies.

Dont mock the Stu Brendan. He likes you.

The little welsh fella over the road would have been nice, seems like he is more than happy to sit on bench as cover for main man after all

He could have done that for us RAFA

Chamakh perhaps?
He'll end up at Arsenal.

amir.fucking.zaki?

He was unstoppable for Wigan before he fell out with Steve Bruce over international duty and was being fined week in, week out. I'd sooner take a punt on someone who's shown a glimmer of class than constant mediocrity. Given the price range we're talking about, there's not much choice.

Calton Cole would be great but we've missed the boat on him. Too talented, English and expensive now.

Give Real 12m plus babel for Higuain.
Maybe a bit steep money-wise but I'd be extremely delighted with that swap.

I don't especially rate him but Pavlyuchenko might come cheap.
That would be bold. I like it though.

Zaki was a piss-taker who returned late from International duty on more than one occasion. No thanks.

Plus, his super-hero jaw would make Riera jealous.

Zarate?

60M buy out clause.

We wont have any money, so any signing will have to be a loan deal. Fat Sam has announced that Benni McCarthy will be leaving in January (probably) so I would take a punt on him as a Torres' reserve.

He really needs a partner to play alongside, the kind we lack, but it's a decent shout - proven goalscorer, etc.

Questionable attitude though.

Hopefully whoever we sign wont play much as Gerrard and Torres will remain injury free for the rest of the season. We probably missed the boat with Tevez, someone of his style and versatility would be ideal. But what player of his ilk will be available, cheap, and maybe not cup-tied? We are better off picking up a cheap/free player who can fill in when required, and saving our dollars for the summer.

Hmmm... I think we'd be better sticking with the likes of N'gog and saving our money and wages for a proper player in the summer. I think we'd be very unlucky to have this injury run continue for the whole season.

I'd let Babel leave, and sign Adam Johnson for a small fee as his contract runs out this summer. He's a great winger in the making and can compete with Riera.

As for strikers, well I'm guessing Heskey will be linked. Pandev, Toni and RVN.

I read on the BBC rumours page that he is going to Stoke (I think) in January for £3m.
God knows we could do with something half dedent on the left now that Reira is permainjured/sulking/whatever.

£3M would be a decent price for a young, english squaddie.

I'd take him.

Heskey can barely get himself in the Villa side, why would we want him?

It always mortifies me to hear his name linked to Liverpool again even if he is relatively cheap.

He's never been a bloody scorer - and never will!

Not true. He cut Prem defences to ribbons in the Treble season when Owen was on one of his injury absences, and if successive managers had continued playing Heskey as the main striker instead of as a target man I think that would have served his career a sod of a lot better. Now, though, he IS a target man, and we don't need one.

True, I forgot about that one season when he pretended he wasn't as shit as we always thought.

I thought your first suggestion of RVN was about the best, and indeed what I have suggested for a while now. Knows where the goal is , may not be able to hack a full season, happy to come off the bench and surplus to requirements where he is. Would not cost a lot up front , but may want a decent wage

regards

How old is RVN now 32/33?

Taking into account that we'd have to pay around £6mil and give him decent wages on a 2-3 year contract, would it really be worth it?

Offer him a decent wage then...but on a pay as you play or something. Im sure if Madrid are willing to let him go then there would be a lot of interest....the guy shits goals!! Plus he'll be wanting first team football with the world cup looming...although given his quality when he gets match fit I wouldnt be surprised to see him keep both benzema and higuain out of the Madrid team...provided he's given the chanCe!!

He was still slotting them home up until his injury wasn't he.

He's never been a player reliant on pace, he's an out and out 'lead the line' poacher.

That depends, if it worked it would be small change compared to what the consequences could be if we don't do something.
I am not sure if he would command that much.

Yeah. I read the thread title and looked through the list of strikers in the league.
He *is* a realistic target. He would do more for the team than Voronin and Babel put together.
He would give us a much needed physical presence and would also understand he is joining a bigger, better sqaud and will not start every match.

Davies is a shithouse, no question. But I'd rather have him in our squad right now than Voronin.
