.... and another thing.... Rangers aren't looking to just enter the English League. That would be too difficult and take too long.
They might be looking to buy a team in England (Bury being the one they were linked with recently), then change that teams name to Glasgow Ranger and move their home games to Ibrox.
Does anyone remember when some consortium were talking about moving Wimbeldon to Dublin a few years back, before they ended up moving to Milton Keynes.
The last team to be liquidated in Scotland, a few years back was Airdrieonians - who were reformed as Airdrie Utd, then refused entry to the 3rd division and subsequently bought Clydebank FC and merged them with Airdrie Utd.
The main reason Airdrieonians went bankrupt was due to being forced into adminstration & liquidation because of unpaid bills for steel used in the construction of their new 9,000 capacity stadium. The money was owed to Murray International Metals - owned by David Murray the then Chairman of Rangers and it was he who started the proceedings against Airdrieonians, alledgedly stating "business is business".
As things stand in Scotland, the club know as Glasgow Rangers will cease to exist once they formerly enter liquidation in a few weeks. A new club is supposed to be able to provide 3 years of accounts before being eligible to apply for membership of the SFL.
Airdrie Utd, will be one of the teams asked to vote on whether to bend the rules to allow Newco Rangers back into the SFL as the SPL teams have knocked them back. I wonder if it'll be "business is business" again.
The SFA is currently working with the SPL and SFL to try and work out a deal which might involve restructuring the entire league system ins Scotland. It's based on the McLeish Report which has been kicking about for a few years. The mad rush to implement the McLeish Report started about a week ago after the first SPL teams openly declared they would not support Newco Rangers being admitted to the SPL. The SFA is driving these changes.
The SFA's Chairmam, Campbel Ogilvie, was General Secretary of Rangers FC, up until 2005 and was the person who would have signed off on Rangers accounts while they were running up the debt that ultimately killed them and when they were usimg illegal un-registered secondary contractual payments through an EBT scheme to avoid paying tax. If found quilty of using these illegal secondary contracts, Rangers could be guilty of fielding ineligible players and have the trophies from the Murray era expunged from the history books.
Campbell Ogilvie also personally received money through the EBT scheme.
Rangers most likely way out is to buy another team and re-name them Rangers. The most likely team is thought to be Cowdenbeath.
Cowdebeath's Chairman is Donald Findlay QC, who in 1999 caused a controversey after a video was leaked of him signing "The Sash" at a Rangers party after a cup final win and subsequently had to resign from his position as....... Vice Chairman of Rangers FC under David Murray.
