Liverpool boss Benitez verbally agrees to take over at Juventus
April 27, 2010

Tuttosport, the Turin based newspaper, has revealed today that Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has verbally agreed to take over as Juventus coach.

The rumours linking Benitez with Juventus have been running now for a number of weeks but today Tuttosport claim a deal was orally agreed in Monaco between Benitez’s agent Manuel Garcia Quilon and Juventus director Roberto Bettega.

Juventus president Jean-Claude Blanc is planning to travel to England on the weekend for talks with Benitez which comes at a crucial time in Liverpool’s season.

The Merseyside giants face a Europa League semi-final second leg clash with Atletico Madrid on Thursday and then a huge Premier League fixture against Chelsea on Sunday.

Reports in Italy suggest Juventus are now confident that Benitez will leave Liverpool and join "The Old Lady" and are so confident that they have no "Plan B."

The likes of Laurent Blanc and Cesare Prandelli have been linked with taking over at Juventus and there are still negotiations to be carried out between Benitez and Liverpool in the coming weeks.

Speculation in England today suggests Benitez will earn £4m-a-year at Juventus and will have a transfer kitty of around £70 million.

You might be a bit premature there Oncey.

I have a feeling that Rafa to Juve isn't a certainty just yet with maybe a twist or two to come.

It's funny. Most people are so desperate for Rafa to leave that no one has even mentioned how devious and underhanded these negotiations with Juve are. Can you imagine if we were desperate for him to stay? We'd be mortified by this kind of behaviour.

I'm one of the last on here that actually seems to genuinely like the man, without it being part of my username.

It only goes so far though. It is doubtful that Rafa is trying to leverage what little power he has left by inviting interest, such that he can get the financial support he deserved last summer, because there either is new ownership or there isn't, and if he couldn't twist arms last summer, it's impossible now. It's possible he doesn't think things will be sorted out here, and it's an opportune time to leave. It's possible he thinks Juve is a new challenge with a hell of a lot less baggage, with a lot certainty in an initial transfer budget and a task to deliver success in a competition he happens to be fantastic in.

I get it all, like I would for players making the same sorts of decisions.

I get it in some sensible business like way. I'm not really into football for that sort of thing though, and it would just be another piece of logic chipping away at a beautifully naive thing.

There, I've edited it so it makes a bit of sense now. It's 250am, so give me a break.

He's had six. And in four and a half of those he's spent lavishly. Another season like this one could see us consigned to our current position indefinitely.

Truly priceless.... you want the cunt to fuck off but call him a traitor for doing so.... its just brilliant in its way. I wonder what enticing offer the owners will make to our incoming manager??

Well pilgrim we'll give you half of the proceeds from selling Torres, but nothing next year or the next at least not until we've built a stadium in 2018 and the interests payments are OK....you should make sure the team pays for that in whatever way, winning selling winning selling again.... Ignore the shit we throw at you though, truth is we don't really know or care much about football nor if you win anything as long as the bills our loan interest paid.... but the fans are a bit feisty and desperate for success so just make sure we win the league title.

I'm sure Mourinho is already scouring the wirral for properties.

Beggars belief.

Mascherano 18m

I'm one of the last on here that actually seems to genuinely like the man, while acknowledging his failings, and if half of what is being reported is going on, unless an attempt to leverage the last bits of his power to get the support he deserved last summer, it'll just be another intrusion of sensible business into something I'd prefer to not think of in that way constantly.

I had to read it twice, too. Bloody creative writers.
I've read it three times and still have no idea what it means.

FWIW if I were one of Rafa's loyal, name-chanting supporters, I'd feel pretty fucking shocked and betrayed by his behaviour. But I'm not, so will just be relieved to get rid of him without paying out £16m.

If we manage to get rid of Rafa at a profit, it'll be one of the best bits of business the owners have done since they arrived.
I still want to see what rafa can do with 'proper' money i.e. not having to sell anyone but still having a decent kitty, and a drama free board. if rafa fucks up then fuck him off. seriously, what is ONE SEASON in the grand scheme of things?
He's had six. And in four and a half of those he's spent lavishly. Another season like this one could see us consigned to our current position indefinitely.
that's not true, all of his purchases were offset with sales, striker, midfielders, defenders all partially funded with players sold, that's why the squad is so disgracefully thing because the money from sales hasn't totally been reinvested in the team.

We aren't, he knows we aren't and hence it isn't underhanded in any way shape or form. I suspect he is probably being encouraged to seek another job from within the club as we don't have to pay as much compensation to sack him.
Your insistance on repeating this proper money mantra ad nausiem doesn't in any way detract from the fact Rafa has spent towards 250m gross and 100m net in 6 years and has developed a team that can't beat Birmingham, Wigan, Stoke, Portsmouth, Reading, Fulham etc.
Babel 11m
keane 20m
torres 20m
Aquilani 18m
Mascherano 18m
Kuyt 11m
Alonso 11m
etc etc etc etc and all the shitty 5m flops and all the shitty 2m rubbish kids.
Just please give it a rest.
who saying he hasn't spent money? I'm saying he has had to sell partially fund those players.
look at the players gh left rafa, look at all the players rafa has purchased in all his time now now imagine if it was his choice who he offloaded because sales weren't necessary to offset purchases. the likes of bellemy etc might possibly still be here.

he knows we aren't. his name is sung every game home and away. where would he feel he isn't wanted? I suspect he doesn't frequent 6CM and even if he did the ratio of people that want him out is at worst 60:40
