I don't see the attraction from his perspective.
[/quote] Perhaps if he makes Liverpool great again, his brilliance as a coach will be undeniable?

If he wins the league for Manchester City or the CL for Real, the same will be pretty much true.

Possibly but there will always be the lingering doubt that he had loads of cash to spend.
He could be accused of buying his way to the top.
That wouldn't be the case at Liverpool and I think his ego is SO big it would appeal to him.

his ego is so big he wouldn't want to go somewhere where it was more likely than not he would fail.

Bollocks.

He won't come here without new owners and a guarantee of £100m to spend *after* he sells the shit we have in our squad.

Mourinho is many things. Naive is not one of them.

Yeah, i'm reaching, I know.

My fear is that if we don't end up with Jose we might have to make do with Hodgeson/O'Neill/Hughes as our next manager and the thought fills me with dread.

If there was ANY possibility we could get him to come here, we should go for it.

Yep.

But there's no way Hughes or Hodgson would get the job. NONE.

Mourinho was attracted to us because of the greatness of our club. The history and the culture that follows the fans and players that wear that famous red shirt.
Thats what seperates us from Man Shitty.

This is why he'll be interested again.

With new owners and a warchest for transfers, he'll be very keen on being our manager.

And why he went to Chelsea.

Oh.

Next.

Would Pelligrino the current Madrid manager not be worth a shot if he gets the sack ? His record before Madrid was quite impressive and according to reports in Spain is that the Madrid supporters want him to stay but Perez wants him out.

From what I've read that was after we had made it clear Rafa was our nr 1 target.

Mourinho's win over Manchester United foreshadowed a move to the English league, where he and manager Alex Ferguson would compete in the Premier League. Porto were on the verge of an away goals defeat when Costinha scored an injury time goal to win the tie and Mourinho celebrated to goal flamboyantly. As a response to his European and domestic success, Mourinho was linked with several top European clubs, including Liverpool, Real Madrid and Chelsea. Mourinho publicly stated his preference for the Liverpool job over the Chelsea one:

"Liverpool are a team that interests everyone and Chelsea does not interest me so much because it is a new project with lots of money invested in it. I think it is a project which, if the club fail to win everything, then [Roman] Abramovich could retire and take the money out of the club. It's an uncertain project. It is interesting for a coach to have the money to hire quality players but you never know if a project like this will bring success.[18]"
Liverpool offered their managerial position to Spanish coach Rafael Benítez and Mourinho instead accepted a large offer from Roman Abramovich and pledged his immediate future to Chelsea.[18]

Oh.

Next.

I can't be alone in wondering what fucking point you're trying to make

Although it would seem as if you are pretty adept at arguing and contradicting yourself, without my help

So do carry on

Let me try one more time;

Mourinho accepted Chelseas offer after we made it clear we wanted Rafa. If we had gone for Jose, he would have picked us over Chelsea.

Understand now?

That's pure conjecture.

Here's some more: He chose Chelsea over us and made our minds up for us.

If you'd bother to read my previews post, I said that was what I've read.
Thats why I think he'd chose us over the other Shitty teams without any history and culture.

Are those words you quote above, "Liverpool are a team that interests everyone (etc.)", a direct quote from Mourinho himself? If so, what you say is a sight more than "pure conjecture". Perhaps they're the reason/one of the reasons why the bookies over here still make Mourinho favourite to succeed Rafa.

Didn't Mourinho sign up with Chelsea first prior to Rafa joining Liverpool? Action speaks louder than words.

It does, and ours was the first job in which he expressed an interest. As Hansern says, he went for the Chelsea gig when we made it clear we wanted someone else.

Yes JJ, those are quotes from Mourinho. I'll see if I can find a link.

From the Telegraph in 2004;

Chelsea's new managerial target, Jose Mourinho, has expressed his reservations about taking over at the richest club in the world and admitted that a side such as Liverpool would be better for fulfilling his ambitions of working in the Premiership.

The Porto coach was at the centre of a surprise approach by Chelsea's billionaire owner, Roman Abramovich, and his chief executive, Peter Kenyon, this week but has said that he feels the huge investment in the club makes it an "uncertain project".

Mourinho said: "Liverpool are a team that interests everyone and Chelsea does not interest me so much because it is a new project with lots of money invested in it. I think it is a project which, if the club fail to win everything, then Abramovich could retire and take the money out of the club. It's an uncertain project.

Juventus begin to hire backroom staff for Liverpool boss Benitez

According to Italian daily, Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are closing in on a deal with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and have begun to recruit his backroom staff at the Spaniard's request.

Juventus chief John Elkann has made Benitez his number one choice to succeed caretaker coach Alberto Zaccheroni this summer. Juventus reportedly held a conference call with Benitez's agent, Manuel Garcia Quillon on Monday night in which they discussed a timetable for the coach's Anfield exit.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Benitez has agreed in principle to sign a contract worth €4.5m a season and that he has accepted to reduce his backroom staff from twelve to six people. Juventus have been given a list of their names and they have now begun approaching them to join the Turin based club.

The staff requested reportedly includes West Ham's fitness coach Antonio Pintus, Benitez's current assistant Mauricio Pellegrino and his chief scout Eduardo Macia. It also includes Anfield fitness coach Paco De Miguel who previously worked for Atletico Madrid and ominously for Liverpool has a good relationship with Fernando Torres .

Benitez has also stipulated that Juventus hire Amedeo Carboni as director of sport, who the Liverpool manager worked with successfully at Valencia. The final appointment would be Mauro Pederzoli, who now works for AC Milan having been a scout at Liverpool. He was also once director of sport at Torino.

This would be a dream come true.
