Rafa to Juve link denied

Personally I hope he goes, but at the same time I think it's a bit shit of him to walk out on all those naive, deluded, loyal supporters who still chant his name at every match.

If he does go to Juve, I'll wish him luck, I suppose, but I doubt I'll retain much affection for Benitez, other than memories of Istanbul.

Juventus Convincers Are Unconvincing For Liverpool Coach Rafael Benitez - Report
Juventus are finding it difficult to land the Spaniard...
By Salvatore Landolina

Juventus are facing more obstacles in their attempt to land Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez as the €80 million transfer budget pledge and top wages offer are not convincing the coach to quit Anfield, reports Tuttosport.

The promise of a major transfer kitty and similar wages to what he is on in England have brought Benitez to his feet, but he is in no mood to hand in his resignation.

Benitez, who signed a new deal with the club last year, would prefer the scenario to change, in that he would prefer for Liverpool to choose to let him go. There has been a meeting between Juve president Jean-Claude Blanc, Carlo Sant'Albano and Manuel Quilon Garcia, Benitez's agent.

Blanc was told that Benitez will not resign from his post for two reasons: dealing with the Liverpool fans who will not welcome such a major decision, and his four-year deal worth €16 million signed last March.

Resignation would see him lose out on that money, though Juventus would be able to match it by offering him a top deal.

However, Benitez would want a type of golden handshake from Juve as well as his bumper contract.?

Hmm, I wonder which one of those 'two reasons' is weighing most heavily on his mind?

I stand corrected. I had seen this but couldn't remember the detail. So our outlay has increased to at least 8m euro with another 7m due in a few months, assuming he is still here. See we haven't triggered any of the add-ons then!! Can we get 8m euro +5% for him do you reckon?
[/quote]

No matter what, we're committed to paying at least around 17M to Roma for Aquilani.

The due dates for the instalments are not based on him still being here. It's money we owe for him, plain and simple.

If you buy a sofa on interest free credit and then decide you don't like it and sell it on ebay, you still have to pay for it when the due date arrives.

Curiously for someone who's defended him longer than most on here (though it's now become exceedingly difficult), I've never really warmed to the man himself. He's always struck me as the archetypal cold-eyed pro, and some of the man-management problems he seems to have had over the years haven't greatly surprised me.

That said, I don't agree that it would be wrong of him to go. In addition to the money side of things, Rafa himself said this very season in so many words that he'll have failed if he doesn't bring the title to LFC. If he honestly thinks he's gone as far as he can towards achieving that, for whatever reason, he wouldn't be doing those fans any favours by sticking around.

You honestly think that would be his motivation? Rafa will never admit he's failed here: he'll just blame the owners, the lack of funds, the financial might of Chelsea, United, City etc. If he goes to Juve, it won't be to spare us further disappointment but to get himself a huge transfer fund. Bastard'll probably win Serie A with them as well.

The owners have lied often enough to us, how many times do you think they have lied to Rafa? If he goes he'll have plenty of reasons for walking in my opinion.

massive transfer kitty, no off field bullshit. I'm surprised he hasn't signed already.

He probably has and we might even receive compo but the ones that have been calling for his head will give him shit for walking away and not showing some bottle because they just have to have a last dig.

Loads of rumours on other sites that Rafa will leave on his own accord right after the final game.

If he leaves, it's vital that we get the best possible manager, Mourinho. If not, we might regret letting Rafa go.

Despite the horror of this season (so far) Rafa has seemed really happy these last 2-to-3 weeks and I have wondered if it's down to knowing he has options he'd be happy with elsewhere regardless of what happens at Anfield and so all the pressure has been lifted.

Not really. We'll be happy. If anything he'll get more respect for actually acknowledging the fact he can't do much more and avoid making us pay him

The 20 million EURO transfer fee is broken up into the following:

- 4 cash instalments of
- - 5 million EURO upfront
- - 3 million EURO by 4th January 2010
- - 7 million EURO by June 30th 2010
- - 5 million EURO by June 30th 2011.

Further Add ons include:

- 300,000 EURO for every year Liverpool qualify for the Champions League from 2010/11 to 2014/15

- 250,000 EURO everytime the player reaches 35 appearancs, 70 appearances, 105 appeances and then 140 appearances.

- 1 million EURO the first time Liverpool either wins the Premier League or Champions League by 30 June 2014.

- 5% of any future transfer fee will be paid to Roma.

I have no way to confirm these sums tho, John.

We have to pay 20m regardless of how long we keep him.

Nothing like a good quiff

If he goes, I most certainly will not - I'll have more respect for him, as he will be accepting that the time has come for massive changes.

I'll also be sad, as I was with Ged, that, although I fell it a move that should be made, it's because he / we failed, and nothing makes me happy when LFC fail.

There's been plenty of talk about Benitez waiting to see if Juve qualified for Europe before making a decision.

Which gave me a mordant chuckle or two.

More importantly, they're talking about giving him £175m to rebuild the team, which must be very appealing. Hopefully he will stand by his assertions that useless cunts like Lucas, Insua, Aquilani et al are "good players" and take them with him.

And Pellibastard.

It may be just a coincidence but we're significantly worse in defence since he joined us. I'm sure the transfer dealings have played a a part too.

worst defender in liverpool's history and I've seen babb. even worse than insua.
