Shoot, actually yes – I missed him too. Now I really want to move the goalposts and exclude anything from below top-7 leagues or something, but I guess it's too late. 167 career goals for Mkhitaryan, but 71 of those were in Ukraine and Armenia...

Balls, there's another.

Are we counting games and goals for the international sides as well?
If so, Gylfi Sigurdsson is another.

OK, so here's the list so far (unless we still missed somebody):
  1. David Silva 142
  2. Fabregas 139
  3. Eriksen 121
  4. Gini 113
And with an asterisk:
  • Sigurdsson 122 – scored 22 of those in lower leagues
  • Mkhitaryan 167 – scored 71 in Armenia and Ukraine
  • Hamsik 143 – eliminated due to moving to China mid-season
============

The point of all this for me is that we literally have one of the best goal-scoring midfielders in all of football in this team in Gini Wijnaldum. He's showing that he is still the same player whenever he goes to his national team (3 goals in his last 6 games for Holland, I think). It's kind of a waste that Klopp is turning him into a Lucas! I wish some journalist would ask him a question about that, I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.

Hamsik is in China. But Sneidjer doesn't count.
Hamsik is an AM. But Hazard doesn't count.

I demand a recount.

Wow, I had no idea that he left! Just this February, apparently. Corrected, Hamsik is eliminated, fairness is restored.

Hamsik is a CM, BTW – played most of his games for Napoli there.

As if anyone would class any of those as Central midfielders, lol

According to transfermarkt:
  • Hamsik 265 games in CM
  • Fabregas 243 in CM and 49 in DM
  • Silva 57 games in CM and 185 in AM, which is a very blurry line at teams like Man City and Spain.
  • Eriksen 44 games in CM and 200 in AM, also not much difference really. I said wingers and strikers not allowed.
  • Gini 154 in CM, 106 in AM and 13 at DM. 1 as a centre-back 🙂
These are all essentially goal-scoring central midfielders, who more or less frequently appeared in an attacking role, like Gerrard did in his time. You can make an argument that Silva and Eriksen are a bit more AMish than others, but they all offer a close enough comparison with Gini IMO. If anything, this makes Gini's numbers even more impressive as he's arguably the best defender of them all, by a distance.

Hamšík has been described as "quick, energetic, hard-working, and tactically versatile midfielder, who is capable of playing in several offensive positions on either side of the pitch, or even through the centre". Throughout his career, he has been deployed as a central midfielder, as an attacking midfielder, as a winger, or even as a supporting striker or inside forward on occasion.

Yes, exactly. Dude, I've watched quite a few Napoli games, especially last season; I can tell you a lot more specific things about Hamsik's role and position. I just missed him leaving for China mid-season, that was unexpected...
