Post Match: Villa Away, unpicking that Shit Show

This offer takes the pressure off Pep and Ollie. We lost, Klopp has to take blame, he did not organise the team as he should. Now its a case of winning the next 10 games and getting a better goal keeper

SIX WEEKS Alisson is set to be out! Six bloody weeks! Are the people who claimed I was wrong even to question how many times he's injured going to defend that? He can be a great keeper, and he is, but he's not a great keeper when he's off the pitch. Top teams lose their keeper for the odd game - they don't keep losing him several times a season, and not for injuries that seem to just come from the body not being up to the stresses and strains of training. Sturridge was slaughtered by Klopp for these kinds of lay-offs. What's Becker's excuse?

Absolutely move for a new keeper.
Frankly I'm surprised they haven't already, Adrian knocked us out of the champions league and cost us millions, not a very shrewd move risking another season on him, knowing Allison's injury history

He needs replacing too. Just like with shaqiri he cannot be counted on to be fit.

Sorry, but when you lose that heavily, you don't mention luck AT ALL. That was an absolute disgrace.
Yep, to be clear, my comment was to point out our pathetic mentality was the reason we lost so hard, not Villa being ridiculously clinical.

So now we’re replacing the best GK in the World after a collision in training?!
Sign a new nr 2, but Alisson is the man going forward.

Logging off now I think, the forum has gone mad.

It’s not just this incident in isolation though is it? He had a late fitness test a week ago and he’s missed 3 or 4 months since he’s been here. Why don’t you see other top keepers out for so long?

The only way to fix this is to buy a shit hot young keeper that is better than Adrian and we can sell on if needed, but will sit on the bench when required

Yes I know that, but they did have luck going their way. It is the unknown quantity in life and it makes a difference. No one is saying that that performance was not a disgrace - it really fucking was @gkmacca - but this approach of trying to be City v2 when you don't have a cute passer all over the pitch is silly. We never played like that last season - it was all about control, and tonight we had none by playing such a high line, and really bad passing.

We played 'such a high line' a couple of seasons ago and never looked like being humiliated like that. And, I know it's verboten to say it now, but we were actually way more fun to watch back then as well. I can put up with the nervous, draining and often frankly boring games we play these days when we win, but you damn well HAVE to win them - the idea we're now, rather than two or three years ago, some happy go lucky team that pushes far too far forwards, my god that's a hopeless excuse for the far deeper-rooted and systemic problems with this team and these players. The idea a Ronnie Moran type shouting 'tighter' at the side of the pitch will solve much is bonkers. This is about training, it's about Pep getting carried away and being allowed to be carried away, it's about Klopp losing focus, it's about way too many of the players losing their discipline and drive, it's about the weakening of the squad and the lessening of competition it brings, it's about the whole club indulging all of that...It's a BIG concatenation of problems, which some people have sneered about as if it was mere alarmism for ages. Well, set your clocks now, smirkers, because you'll be waking up with those bells ringing loudly enough in your ears in the morning.

.

You're still at it, aren't you? How many games does he need to miss before you finally recognise there's a problem??? Who are you going to compare him with next - Douglas fucking Bader?

It's always going to be a problem when you have someone as fucking flaky as Adrian as your number two. We need someone reliable even if not exceptional as our number two, not someone who ranges from occasionally sublime to often comical.

If we’re going to play such a high line then we absolutely have to press high and be tireless at closing down the midfield - otherwise we’ll get murdered.

The pressing was superb against Arsenal a week ago - but today was awful.

I wouldn’t go as far as Macca and call it a deep rooted and systemic problem - but the players need to have a good hard look at themselves - because it will happen again if intensity & concentration drop.

I see it a an experiment gone bad, or maybe an experiment that might work with the correct chess pieces on the pitch.
Anyway, I think Klopp will take these two weeks to adjust. No alarm bells ringing over here. Time to watch "Raised by wolves".
Btw we won the league last season...

He will, Klopp - if anything Klopp is the most re-active coach we have had, he will change what he needs to get us going again. What was worrying about today was that there was no adjustment when the score was at 3-1 in the first half Something should have changed at that point to fix the situation.

My plan at that stage was hook Gomez, drop Fab back and throw one of the more attacking options on. Well he did that half an hour later and we were still shite

The Reds lost 7-2 and are the first reigning champions to concede seven goals in a league game since Sunderland beat Arsenal 7-1 in September 1953.

Embarrassing stuff.

I'm really beginning to worry about how much licence he's giving Pep. Pep is a good coach but he's also, potentially, a bit 'optimistic'. Pep seems to be driving the tactical changes. Klopp is getting the flack. So you'd expect Klopp to put the reins on Pep. But that leaves the question: what does Klopp do, positively?

Simple - we go back to the way we did early last season, more controlled orientated type of football, neither too forward nor too backwards, - pass teams to death, wait for the gaps to open up. What has happened if not a tactical change, is that we have lost that in-game patience we showed last season, we think we can just go and dominate teams when in fact we never did that for 90% of games, - just look at the scores from last season in the games we won, it was none of that early year heavy metal shit with Klopp where we trying to out-score every fucker. Our players are best suited to what we did last season - just need to get back to that shit.

On the plus side Jota again looked dangerous, I'd be very interested in seeing Mane through the middle with Mo and Jota either side.

Many, many negatives though. Shame we didn't sign Reina as no.2 but it's not just Adrians fault, several shit performances.

The scoreline was embarrassing, and frankly insane. I still can't believe we allowed that to happen. But it is an aberration.

Like ibromurph said, it all stemmed from having that shithead in goal who has no understanding of commanding his box when the defence is that high up, and is an absolutely liability when trying to play out of the back. The ultra high-line was devised to beat the low block which realy frustrated us in 18-19, and it helped us win the league last year. But it does require a top class sweeper keeper, and constant pressing up front.

This could in fact have gone like the Leeds game had Klopp seen the signs and made the necessary adjustments. What we badly needed was the leadership of Hendo or Milner immediately, and also to take off Gomez who was having an absolute nightmare. Bringing on Minamino and leaving Gomez to fuck up further was a bad decision.

If Klopp has a problem, it is that sometimes he trusts his players too much. Adrian deserves no trust, and Klopp should have made adjustments when the third goal went in.

The long-term issues to sort are the ultra high-line and how to find a way to beat the low block without exposing us so much. Thiago will help hugely with this, and I expect that Klopp will make some tactical adjustments.

The only major long-term issue I'm worried about are Gomez's one on one defending. When you play that high up the field, you need to have immense confidence in the one on one defending of your CBs. Now Gomez has been quite horrible since July, and needs a serious boot up his backside. Matip can't come back soon enough. Gomez's level tends to be higher when he's fighting for a place in the side.

Regarding the stand-in GK, Klopp has a decision to make. Based on how little confidence the defence had in Adrian yesterday, this will require some serious work in training. Or it might even mean we give young Kelleher a go.

He never ever gets tight, and relies on his pace (and Van Dijk) to bail him out of tricky situations. He's the anti-Lovren.

It wasn’t a dream after all , I could hardly sleep last night.. they better pick them selves up after the break.

Adrian started the shitshow. He makes at least 1 mistake in every 2 games. I am not sure how he is even allowed to be here. He is worse than Ming, on par with Karius on a shit level.

I have said it before at least Karius completed a season without much of a doofus besides that final. Adrian has played something like 20 games for us and already has a whole catalogue of mistakes.
