Personally I thought Lucas did some good work early on. He faded badly though. But at this stage it's so important that we keep the space around our goal as clean and quiet as possible, and that clogging that we tend to do, the increasingly slow and seemingly aimless passing along the line, really is a nerve shaker. I don't mean the little triangles to go beyond the attacker - that's done better than ever at present - but what happens after that. Today, time and again, the options shrank and then it was as if a sacrificial defender was chosen to receive the ball with nothing on and two opponents bombing in at him. It happened to Sakho several times and it was absolutely needless. We don't need to revert to mad punts upfield, we just have to be more aware that our style should never require us to surrender possession cheaply in our own half. Lose it in their half if we must, but don't faff about at the back and don't suddenly start passing back when we're deep in the opposition's half.
