Yeah Coutinho has been poo this season

I got lambasted for suggesting as much in a thread not so long ago.

But yeah, the lad's struggling big time. Hopefully a goal or something will get his confidence up and he'll rediscover his form.

Yeah to be fair you did Gary. I'd be dropping him if anyone.

I wouldn't drop him IF we can accomodate him in the front tip of the middle 3 in the 4-3-3. But that means Gerrard on the bench, so he'll be on the bench next game probably.

Considering how badly we played in teh first 35 mintues, and how lucky we were to only be 2-0, a 2-2 draw isn't a bad result. It's not ideal and we should have won, but it's a long season and I want to remain optimistic. Everton will lose tomorrow to help us maintain top 4 aspirations before we heap the pressure on them next week.

Despite Gerrards current form, he simply has to play against Everton. Always does the business against them and I think it would give the Everton team a huge boost if they saw him on the bench.

I dont really get the Cissokho bashing, yeah hes poor but come on we ve seen a lot worse.
He didnt cost us points this season. Yesterday, 1st goal came from the right and then Stevie not following his guy.
Second for Mignolet. At Stoke it was Henderson, Touré and Mignolet and he scored a goal.
When is Enrique back by the way?
GlenJo has been dreadful for a while and both should be sold asap with at least one FB and CM cominig in.

Look at Benteke`s goal again, from first viewing he charged out naively like a schoolboy footballer to close the ball in their right back position. Their right-back lofts it over to the two villa players where he should've been, meaning our whole defence had to shift across to cover the gap he stupidly left. Then that Puncheon-esque shot when he took a touch to tee himself up before walloping it high and wide from about 10 yards. These are just the glaring errors that cost us. Even Henderson was shouting at him at one point.

Put defensive ability to one side for a moment.

Cissokho is so bad the opposition give him the freedom of the left flank and generally the best thing that you can say about his performance when we are in possession is that he just about manages to not trip up over his own feet / the ball... well most of the time.

Yeah. Sterling, Suarez and Sturridge as the front 3 and put another body in the midfield should be the way we set up next Tuesday.

And i agree, Gerrard will probably have a stormer against the Blueshite...it'd be just like him. Here's hoping.

Allen can play that holding role decently, I still maintain, and will improve considerably given a run of games. We still need to buy a midfielder though.

Yeah, I think thats extremely important. I hope Flanno and Sakho are fit aswell.

I'd have to seriously question whether little Joe has the fortitude to deal with such a vital role in a Derby match. It's arguable that he's failed to deal with the pressure of being at such a big club and he has never given us any reason to think he can be a defensive lynchpin (has he?) so it looks like a big risk asking him to deliver such a performance in what is a massive game for us. Then again, so is asking Gerrard to do it after yesterday's abject display.

Perhaps we'll revert to three CBs and have Johnson and Cissokho pushed up but tucked in to prat about hoping to make a nuisance of themselves and get in the way of Everton players, which is about all we can hope from them on current form.

Three centre-backs would be an unmitigated disaster, especially with two clowns at wing-backs.

Allen will do fine.

Bit early, but this would be my line up

Ming
Johnson Skrtel Sakho Flanno
Hendo Allen Gerrard
Sterling Sturridge Suarez

Spot on.

As you say, hopefully Sakho will hopefully be back and he's best equipped to deal with Lakaku. Be good to have young Flanno back too, he'll be seriously fired up for it.

Considering we should have been 0-3 down before they got their first, I'll take the point. That's as bad a first 45 minutes as I can remember watching us play.

Don't know why Brendan deserves all the criticism for getting it wrong at the beginning, but no credit for making the changes that salvaged the draw...

Our FBs make we weep - One tries, but is shite (makes me miss Djimi Traore) while the other is gifted but (plays like he) couldn't give a fuck. And our CBs aren't too far behind.

Lots of issues, for sure... But we still played abysmally and got a point - When "good" teams do that, it's championship form. I still think we're gonna be right in the mix for 4th, possibly 3rd, and we'd all have taken that when the season began.

A dreadful game best forgotten, and on to the bitters, where I fully expect us to raise our game and get the 3 points.

That was the worst I'd seen us play in a long, long time. I'm not his biggest fan, and we need better, but Lucas' role is important to our play and it was evident we needed him against such an counter-attacking side. We were also lucky Agbonlahor got injured. Their main attacking outlet went off and they were forced to bring on Grant Holt. That was as instrumental as Lucas shoring things up.

3rd is definitely out of the question. 4th will be a real struggle (it always was regardless of this result) and I don't think we'll do it. *Awaits barrage of abuse.*
I think Arsenal and Everton will score a couple of goals at Anfield, and it just depends on whether we can outscore them at the minute because our defence/Mignolet is absolute garbage.

BR made the wrong selection. Coutinho is out of form and Lucas should have started. Was shocked he wasn't. When he came on we improved. when he went off we deteriorated again. Big miss in the home stretch of the season. We need to add a midfielder for rest of the season, and get our defence fit.

With all due respect to Hal above, 3rd is not out of the question. Just as it wouldn't have been right to overreact to our good results before now, it isn't right to come it with the doom and gloom after a poor performance from which we still clawed a point back. Getting into the CL places was always going to be a dogfight for a lot of teams this season and we're still well in that mix IMHO.

I think the top 3 will stay that way, albeit in a different order, probably. It was very encouraging on one hand how we clawed back to get a point, however, on the other hand I think that that display showed our deficiencies at the back glaringly. Arsenal, who can counterattack like the best of them, will be licking their lips at what Villa did to us. Everton are extremely dangerous too and will fancy their chances.

Had we beaten Villa I would have been optimistic about claiming 4th, but something now has to change defensively, and Rodgers can no longer field a team of names at the expense of the system. Our next 2 home games are absolutely huge. We MUST beat Everton. We can't get beaten by Arsenal. I hope we pull it off, but I can't see our defence not conceding at least 2 in each of those games.

We need a DM, a LB and a RB. Johnson and Cissokho were fucking garbage. Again. So was Gerrard. Again. He was totally at fault for one of the goals too. I also think Coutinho's wheels have fallen off. He just can't seem to do anything right lately.

On a brighter note, Skrtel is turning into a boss. And Sterling and Henderson have really improved.

Ok.

Realistically we aren't getting a fb.

The fact villa targeted Cissokho by ignoring him & letting him give the ball back to them (giving them less pitch to cover & effectively an extra man) will mean every team we play now will do the same.

As such we need to fix that. The only viable solution I an see that I like is put Sterling at rb, Johnson at lb. It also gives a room to fit Coutinho in on a wing, where's he more comfortable & might regain some form/confidence.

Thats fucking nutty Jon Fizzox.
Play the kids if needs be, but not a winger at RB.

He's played there before

Granted not for 90 minutes, but he has done that role.

Ideally Kelly should be getting a run out this weekend, with a view to him starting against the shite

I thought it was insane as well, & said as much only weeks ago. I've now seen him play there twice though & he's amazingly quite good at it, he's positionally sound, he doesn't give the left winger any space to get forwards & although he doesn't bomb on as much he still offers a lot of threat down the side.

I'd prefer him there to a player out of sorts as he has started for beards like Kelly.

Has someone come up with the notion that Rodgers intentionally played the team that started to point out to Henry & Co. who were in attendance, that we desperately need back up?

If not, then let me do the honours...
