Porto (H) 2nd Leg

Look there's probably bugger all between Solanke and Ings right now (especially since neither have scored any goals), but I know Ings isn't good enough long term, so I'd like to see Solanke get as many opportunities as possible to see if he can become something.

Ings carries a bit of nuisance factor for sure, and is a half-decent option off the bench should we need it, but if you've got a proper squad togethor in a year's time - he doesn't even make the bench frankly. Solanke has shown signs at youth level for England and for the U-23's, he just needs games.

I think there's a lot of training going on to make him firmino lite

In his initial appearances you can kind of see what he was trying (exploiting space, coming deep, flicks to set up the wide players), but obviously that wasn't his game, so visibly struggled a bit. Think that's why recent appearances have been so sparse. Lot of personalised training and development.

And what if we rest them and we lose Sat and look rusty or get injuries anyway.
That makes no logical sense. There is logic in not taking chances with them, in resting them instead. Look rusty ? WTF. Does a week between games make players rusty ?

We could lose anyway, there's no guarantees, it's football, but you can improve your odds of winning by making sure you have your strongest team available.

BTW I don't believe Klopp will rest many (2-3 at most).

Porto have at least 4 x 1st teamers out too (though Aboubakar, their top scorer, returns) : Telles, Marega, Soares (5 goals since we won in Portugal) & Pereira.

ECHO :
Rotation could be the order of the day for the Reds, and Nathaniel Clyne could make his first appearance of the season following his recent return for the Under-23s.
Adam Lallana could also be in line for a start.

Also reports that Sergio Conceicao cold rest players prior to their top of the table clash with Benfica on Sunday. Makes logical sense since they surely can't overcome the deficit and it's a dead rubber : Sérgio Conceição brought the following players to Anfield: Casillas, José Sá (goalkeepers); Maxi, Marcano, Brahimi, Aboubakar, Óliver, Gonçalo Paciência, Herrera, Corona, Waris, André André, Ricardo, Reyes, Otávio, Sérgio Oliveira, Felipe, Diogo Dalot, Luís Mata and Bruno Costa.

Sounds like Porto are resting a few players for this too. There is no way they will keep a clean sheet no matter which team we put out so all good. i'm comfortable about our squad options in midfield & defence should we get an injury but not at all for the front three. Maybe keeping Mane in as he is really hitting some form but resting Bobby & Mo would be the best compromise.

Yes... If we cannot handle the prospect of facing Porto without Salah and Firmino then this merely underscores how important it is to preserve them for the United game, as well as our remaining CL matches.

Reading through Twitter it sounds like a team of:

Karius
Gomez Matip Van Dijk Moreno
Milner Can Ox
Mane Solanke Lallana

Or close to it anyway.

That should do just fine. I just hope Moreno doesn't catch Klopp's eye (and at the same time doesn't create catastrophe). We don't need Klopp getting confused as to his best LB is.

We could have at least given either Firmino or Mane the night off too. You almost got it 100% right Klopp.

Fuuuckkkkk it’s Moreno

Who on earth at the Echo said Clyne could start? Klopp said in the presser yesterday that Clyne isn't ready.

Much as I loathe Moreno, he may as well get a run out, so long as he's hooked at the first sign he's as mental as before. Good to see Lallana getting some minutes. We really need him fit and on form for the last part of the season. Hopefully we can get a goal or two early on and then send on Ings for a a decent length of time instead of another tiny cameo.

Would have been a bit interesting to see Clyne, but I guess he isn't fit enough.

Firmino and Manè tend to be the players brought off so they do get breaks at the end of a lot of games. That could be the rationale behind them starting.
