PL Opposition Tidbits

Ballpark 700M. Wow

Yeah, well they got their money back on Lukaku (£75m) and a decent wedge for Di Maria (£45M) but OMG the ones on the books now are on insane wages and will be impossible to shift

To put this into perspective we have three players contracted on £10m+/year

  • Mo Salah (£18.5M, 2 years)
  • Virgil Van Dyke (£11.5M, 2 years)
  • Thiago (£10m, 1 year)
According to 'Spotrac' United have:

That's crazy. Only three of these were good enough to start against Man City.

Thought they had learned their lesson. Who tf would pay Mount more than VVD?

The best managers that Utd should/could have got are Mancini and Emery. They're both mustard but they'd never have gone for either. Brilliant.

£13 million a year for Martial!!!

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

They’ve been waiting for Ange to cut his teeth in Scotland & England before making Dreamies Dream come true.

Well it is kinda the Glazers fault. It’s the owners have to pick the right people and get the right structures in place and they seem to keep getting it wrong.
To be fair most clubs get it wrong year after year. There are very few we can point to that have managers and set ups that suit the club and their budget (and that success doesn't always transfer when the manager moves to another club). This is down to the season by season variables including player form, managerial mistakes, economic climate, covid, injuries, budget etc. etc.

They have appointed some top managers (LvG and Mourinho) and given them a big spending budget so it really is surprising they find themselves where they are.

However if you appoint the likes of Moyes (though TBF at the time there was a lot of clamour for him to get a chance at a Top 4 club), Solskjaer, Carrick and Giggs (and Ten Hags is looking like another in the Moyes vein, as was Potter at Chelsea) then I guess you deserve what's coming to you.

Carrick is a decent young manager, I think - and he made a smart decision to leave that shitshow before it ruined his reputation.

Insane. They are going to lose a TON of money offloading those or waiting for their contracts to expire. Happy days.

Don't think there's anything here that can't be salvaged with a good dose of Graham Potter

Speaking of good players, anyone want to take a stab at a combined Chelsea and United 11? If you put the two together, will you be able to get one decent team?

Manchester United players struggling with kit issues Home socks 'too tight' & haven't been used since game 2
Onana keeper jersey too small so has been wearing replica
Adidas working on it

"They are playing so bad because their socks are to tight"...

How about good players! Their squad has
a clear dearth.

Yes they definitely need to sign more proven players. There's no one better than Ngolo Kante. He's currently on £21.5m a year but if anyone can top that, Man Utd can!

So UK equivalent is £800k a week or £40m a year.

Chelsea have got two teams already and TBF Pochetino is starting to make headway with them. Their problems are that their better players are injury prone and they lack a 'proper' striker. Maybe if you swapped Jackson for Hojlund and magically fixed their FBs then they'd be a force

Defensively they're still a shit show. The Brentford game was standard performance from poch chelsea. Early dominance, completely devoid of creativity, easily broken down in the second half.

I'm not massively worried about them yet. Another half a bill might fix it

For now, but on an upward trajectory. What interested me is, whilst they have signed multiple players up to very long term contracts, most salaries are not outrageous. So the exposure isn't _as_ bad as I assumed. They are paying Sterling £17m for the next 4 years which is ludicrous, but the rest are about what you'd expect.

For example, Caicedo is on the same as Mac Allister and Gravenberch (all more than Dom!) and Lavia is paid £45k/week which compares to Elliott, Bacjetic (£40k/week) and Curtis (£15k/week)

I mean… Chelsea got 5 points from their first 5 games & 7 points from the last 5 - so it’s an upward trajectory but not a pretty steep one given they’ve only beaten Luton, Fulham & Burnley.

Poch would be out of a job if it got any worse.

They have been unlucky though. And they have outplayed most teams.

A team with Nkunku, Caicedo, Enzo, Colwill, Lavia, Madueke, Disasi, Palmer etc isn't going to too poor in the long term. They have time on their side.

First two are awful. Palmer is decent. When you watch Madueke play football you have to wonder if the Chelsea scouts have been off their nut while working in Holland.

They did try to spend sensibly though (thus ensuring financial stability and enhancing possibility of getting out of Championship after dropping back into it) - either bringing in value for money players or young prospects.

Madueke is a decent winger. For us he'd be great. Problem is they play in such a way that doesn't get the best out of his explosiveness.
It's weird, they seem to have a lot of system players who just aren't suited to poch system.
Enzo has been a massive disappointment for them this season, as has caicedo. I don't know if that partnership will work.

Nkunku ideally will turn out shite

Madueke is awful. Might be talent there but he isnt ready for the Premier league, at all.
