I think you could substitute any coach's name and the comparison will be just as non-distinct between the respective Barca teams. The players at Barca play their style and you can only really say if one season's Barca is better than the previous season's Barca by the type of player that can fit up front with Messi.

Rijkaard's team was great for entertainment largely because of Ronaldinho. 3 or so years of absolute genius.

I think Pep's team was better but yeah, this current side has a better forward line and can mix it up a bit more. Stick Suarez / Neymar in Pep's side and perhaps Rakitic on the bench and Pep's team - wow!

Pep's Barca was maybe a more complete squad - with a Puyol,younger Iniesta, Xavi, Alves.

Just my personal opinion, but at times I found the way Pep's Barca hogged the possession a bit boring. I find Luis Enrique's Barca way more explosive and fun to watch.

In terms of transfer fees and putting aside the absurd Ibrahimovic debacle, I don't think Pep's Barca was *that* expensive. Different story when it comes to wages though.
