Come on lad - step up big time !

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has urged Spanish forward Dani Pacheco to step up and fight his way into the first team at Anfield.

The youngster has been handed an unexpected chance to shine with Dirk Kuyt expected to be sidelined for four weeks with a shoulder injury.

Hodgson feels that Pacheco has all the attributes to succeed if he can maintain his self-belief.

"I thought Dani did very well when he came on against Manchester City in the five or six minutes he played," the Reds boss told his club's official website.

"I also thought he did very well when he came on against Trabzonspor and he made a difference. He is a player that we really believe in.

"He is young but it is great that can keep giving him these opportunities and moments on the field and I think these moments will get even longer as the season progresses.

"Now we are in the Europa League, it is good for me too that I will be able to give chances to the likes of him, [Jay] Spearing and [Jonjo] Shelvey.

"They need games and we will have plenty of opportunities in the coming months."

Pacheco himself would certainly appear to be up for the challenge.

"I hope I will play a big part," he said.

"I know that I have to keep working very hard in training and I will have to take the chances that the manager will give to me."

Don't expect Rage to consort with the 'facts'. Just leave him to go off on one.

to be fair, there is a world of difference between being on the left of a 4-3-3 (which I'm sure is the formation pacheco played) and being on the left of a 4-4-2/4-5-1

But he'll be on the left/right of a 451/433 anyway won't he?!

In the 451 its not too much different, but more defensive ability is needed. wing play is not required due to the fact we can't do it

pacheco needs to be an understudy for cole in our usual 4231. he hasn't got the strength to play in dirk's position.

I meant being on the left of a 4-3-3 is different from being on the left of a 4-5-1.
left of 4-3-3 is essentially a forward, left of a 4-5-1 is more of a wide midfielder/winger.

Itr wouldnt be that much different if you employed a 4-2-3-1 though which I think is the 4-5-1 Fabio is suggesting.

doesnt the formation 433 come hand in hand with 451?

Unless we are playing against Wrexham i imagine the formation would inadvertently change during the course of a game.

okay, fair comment from fabio. personally after watching pacheco I really feel to come into his own he will need to play centrally behind the striker I don't think he would thrive in a wide position even if it is further up the pitch.

you and roy would go well together with each other then, your severe case of delusion and insanity would sit well with his dementia!

delusion - we belong at the top
insanity - with the right manager, even with the budget limitations this squad can win it.

i'll take that every day than waiting for a lottery ticket of new owners that will buy us the title.

Agreed 100%.

Just wondering what magnificent manager wouldnt receive his scorn.
[/quote]

Jesus?

how can anyone not like grandpa roy? its not his fault mr self handicap left us in a mess.

now all he has to do is permanently drop lucas and say to dirk wait your turn lad whilst maxi is showing us all what a right sided midfielder really looks like and i'll personally go round and trim his toenails.

Interesting that Pacheco's team mate in the under 19s tourny this summer, Canales, started for Real Madrid at the weekend. Pacheco won the golden boot in that tournament - and Canales was on the bench when they dicked Italy 3-0 with Pacheco scoring twice.

I'm no expert, but if Madrid have spent all that dough and think Canales is ready, maybe Pacheco should be playing?

Canales played a good bit last season in La Liga, he was ready then and he's ready now.

I don't understand why Pacheco would be playing ahead of him for the u-19's because Canales is streets ahead of Pacheco a this stage.

That is quite an interesting point.

I suppose what Canales has going for him over Pacheco is that he's already made quite a few appearances for Racing. Had Pacheco been at a similar sort of club, he'd have more than likely gotten starts as well by now.

Still, it seems as though he's going to get opportunities this year.
