Well maybe it's a Scouser thing. I hate Utd with a passion and if he were to go there I'd hate him, prolonging of his career or not.

I agree. Im not happy about all the hatred towards Owen since he left, but if he signs for the scum then he really has crossed the line

That's kinda missing my point though (if you were referring to my post that is). It's not that I don't hate Utd, it's that I just don't care about Owen any more - they might as well be signing Martins from Newcastle. That might change if he starts to do really well for them, gets back into the England team etc., but for now... meh (and I was one of those that wouldn't have been against bringing him back to Anfield).

Keni - could you see Robbie going to Manure? or any local lad who starred with the Reds?

He's making the 'right decision' tbh for medals, and I hope his 'run' of medals continues like it has since he left us.

It was directed at anyone who doesn't agree that he's a cunt if he joins Utd. Say, for instance Fowler was faced with the same conundrum. Would he join Utd? I bet he fucking wouldn't.

Some of them, in the right circumstances, yeah... I could.

This is a little like the club vs player thing that Mark and I were talking about in the Alonso thread. We've abandoned the player, yet expect him to remain loyal to us...

...and if he is considered to be one of us to the point where we expect him to turn down Utd in his situation, what does that say about our attitude towards him in recent years?

Don't you think it's very hypocritical? I mean, I know football is like that n all, logic goes out the window... but I'm just saying.

He was a cunt for leaving.
He was a cunt for not coming back.
And finally he was a cunt just coz.

Of course joining Utd sends him into cunt overdrive, but what I'm saying is that if I was Owen, I wouldn't really differentiate between being 70% cunt and 100% cunt. No matter what he does, he's still going to be considered a cunt and you only have to look back at the first few pages of this thread where a few posters have to argue for him to get the minimum amount of respect to know I'm right.

I would have hoped he would feel emotionally attached to Liverpool and as such would not sign. But brand Owen wont sell at Hull, so he will go to Man Utd.
I couldnt really care. Hopefully he's true to form. I dont even think he'll be that marketable for United, the generation of Owen fans are too fucking old and wise to be fooled, and the kids dont know who the fuck he is. So he'll play the Tevez role on the bench and playing a game here and there and get 12 goals this year, 5 of them in the carling cup, and he'll be interviewed and sound boring and matter of fact and unemotional, and he wont get back in the England team, and so will slip away his career. Non shall mourn.

I'm very, very disappointed.

I used to love Owen.

This move is final proof, if ever it was needed, that the man is a mercenary.

It's not like he's from the "middle of nowhere" and can't fully grasp the depth of enmity with manure.

Sure, he's not a pure-blooded scouser either, but he's local enough to know the score in full.

Gutted.

Fergie tried to tap Fowler up many a time too, he met Robbie's Dad (I think) at a function somewhere and told him if his son went to United he would make him an even better player. As said, he never did.

I agree with your point anyway, I don't really dig all the Owen hatred, but if he signs for them that's it.

Nail on head Oncy.

Thats where I am too, I was always prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt in terms of his move to Madrid and then not holding out to move to us when he went to Newcastle but signing for that fucking shower of shite will confirm he has no love/repect for the club that made him. Therefore he will cross the line into cuntsville

Oh, btw, that age restriction that was reported to be in place at the scum on signing new players was obviously a load of bollocks then.

I doubt it would extend to free transfers and pay-as-you-play deals.

I was talking about Liverpool fans as a collective.

Look, don't get me wrong... it would've been good to see him turn them down, but I just can't quite bring myself to blame him for not doing so. If he starts banging in the goals for them and making headlines, I'm sure my tone will change (I'm fickle), particularly if he scores against us, but for now there is no "that's it!" from me... I guess I'm just past that point.

I guess it's because of his age and how much we've seen him decline that we probably feel a bit 'meh' about it, if they keep him fit though it could be a shrewd little signing. A few years back it would have been more concerning.

Much depends on who else they buy, but losing Ronaldo and gaining Michael Owen is still a big drop in quality and all round ability.

[/quote]Ken you say that like the majority believe him to be a cunt (70%) on this site i believe only Rebel and one other poster (rage?) think hes a cunt, Wilko and myself dont want him here because hes just not good enough. He still gets bare love from 95% of posters and Liverpool fans in general. So to paint it as him saying 'ive nothing to lose with the Liverpool fans, they already think im a cunt' is just not true. Football wise he of course is making the right choice, but just looking at the reaction on all sites from usually docile fans will show you that THIS is the decision the majority will judge/define/remember him for, not leaving or not coming back.

I don't agree re: Wilko, his criticism has not been restricted to "he's not good enough for us". And I really don't agree with the "gets love from 95% of Liverpool fans"... I just don't see it as being true at all. (And on an aside, the percentages didn't relate to Liverpool fans, rather the proportion of cunt in his character).

As for the reaction, well, this is the only way Owen will get a reaction from Liverpool fans, isn't it? Either a betrayal of this magnitude or making headlines again elsewhere.

Otherwise, many fans (even the docile ones) would prefer it if he continued to fade / rot away into obscurity with the occasional joke thrown in for good measure. I'm pretty sure every Liverpool forum had a good chuckle at his expense when Newcastle got relegated.

I'm not saying he's not a cunt, just that I don't blame him for being one.

Like Ryan & Keni have said, this is a no brainer, really.
What's he gonna do? Sign fior Hull and Phil fucking Brown as a manager next season?
Have Zinedine Kilbane crossing balls into him all season loing? No chance.

I have had no feelings for Owen for quite a while now, they may as well be signing Beye, Barton or Martins. They're just signing a Newcastle player is all.

Two items from cuckoo land:

1. Tim Lovejoy, on BBC1's The Week last night, said of the transfer story: 'This is such great news because everyone loves the player and the club'.

2. The papers, which were clearly ready to mock any club that signed Owen, are now trying to suggest it's a 'masterstroke' from Ginsoak.

As for Michael: well, as a defender of his down the years, I'd have to say this is beneath comment.

He's just clueless, isn't he? Utterly clueless.

Heh, is he still doing that cooking / whatever show on the weekends?

That was very odd.

It does anger me that he is going to United, but more that we have let it happen. I really think that bringing him back would've been a good move and I am sure that he would have come to Liverpool rather than sign for United. As it turns out I am afraid that I fall on the side of 'he didn't have a great deal of choice'.

I never thought he was a cunt and I don't think he is a cunt now. I have however always thought he was a professional footballer in the truest sense of the term and as such will always have one eye on what is best for himself. Lots of players are like that. The problem is that with Owen we judge him by the same standards as people like Carra and Fowler, who wouldn't go to United in a million years.

Now if he goes to United I can't suddenly say "I hate him now" because I don't. I want him to do badly because I want any United player to do badly but I'm afraid I still can't hate him because deep down, with the offers he reportedly had on the table I can't really blame him

who gives a fuck, this only confirms everthing I've ever thought about him.
I really wish I could dig up my kop talk posts on owen, then as now he only thinks about himself. fuck him.
despite hating owen I've never booed at anfield that will definately change from now on.

I'm not really arsed. For the 10 games he plays a year he'll hardly make a difference to them. Can't really blame him as his options are limited and it's no different to Ince coming here. He'll come in for a barrowload of stick from the Liverpool fans though. Good job he doesn't live in the city really - his life would be a misery.
