So what was it in his last few months that Michael Owen did in terms of how he played did that offended you so much?
He walked around like a sulky git who looked like he couldn't be arsed and thought he was too good to play for us.

He also thought Liverpool with a new manager and prospects wasn't worth sticking around for.
or maybe he did, and did not get the right vibes from the new manager who wanted his own players in, at that time Morientes , he already had Cisse more or less thrust on him

Do you just think of a number, fit it to your arguement, and then think everyone will believe it????

Michael Owen missed the chance to bring Liverpool back on level terms with the score at 1-0 today when he missed a penalty.

Owen's penalty miss today means he has now failed to score in 50% of penalties he has taken for Liverpool. Of the twenty he has taken only ten have hit the back of the net.
You claimed that Owen missed 'countless' penalties in his last season

In his last season he scored 4:

17/8/03 Chelsea
13/9/03 Blackburn
20/9/03 Leicester
28/9/03 Charlton

He missed 2:

22/2/04 Portsmouth
14/3/04 Southampton

I'm not saying he was amazing at penalties (in fact he scored 13 and missed 10 in his Liverpool career) but if you really want to start playing the stats game at least get it right

I don't buy it Vlad, I just don't.

No one's gonna change my mind about Owen, and all this Utd stuff has made me hate him even more.

Two things. I never realised Beardo was on United books at one time, and secondly is not Matt Busby the most high profile player to play for both sides?

Crossing the divide: Brave stars who pulled on the red of Liverpool and Manchester United

Liverpool fans have been watching on in horror with Michael Owen set to complete a shock move to Manchester United.

The former Anfield favourite is ready to join their big rivals on a free transfer after his contract at Newcastle expired.

Yet, Owen is not the first player to pull on the shirt of both clubs.
Michael Owen

Former glories: Michael Owen celebrates scoring at United in 1998

The clubs' rivalry was originally born out of trading conflict during the industrial revolution, and it never lost its edge all the way on the long journey to the Barclays Premier League.

The annual meetings are regarded as one of the world's greatest derbies but there are few who have experienced it from both sides.

Sportsmail takes a look at the brave souls who have worn the red shirts of Liverpool and United.
Peter Beardsley

Never made a huge impression at Old Trafford, making just the one appearance for United in a League Cup game in 1982. Made his name elsewhere and will be fondly remembered on Merseyside for his goal-laden days at Liverpool and Everton.

Allenby Chilton

Only a very short stint at Liverpool, four months to be precise, before moving to United in November 1938. Established himself as first-choice centre half in Sir Matt Busby's first post-war side, helping them to lift the FA Cup in 1948.

Phil Chisnal

The last player to be directly transferred between the two sides. Started out at United in 1961, scoring 10 goals in 35 games, winning the F.A Cup along the way. Transferred to Liverpool in 1965 but only managed nine appearances and two goals before being shipped out to Southend United.

Fred Hopkin

Made 74 appearances for United but at it was at Anfield where he won back to back titles (1922-1923) that Hopkin made his name. Another of the transferees to have a somewhat tainted history as during his time at Old Trafford United were given a fine of £350, after paying Hopkin more than the maximum wage and for promising to give him a percentage of his transfer fee which was illegal.

Paul Ince

After his controversial move from West Ham, the self-styled 'Guvnor' enjoyed much success at Manchester United, helping Fegie's side to two league titles, two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup. Ince spent two seasons at Inter Milan before moving to Merseyside for £4.2million in 1997 but was not considered as effective as he had been and was released to Middlesbrough in the summer of 1999.

Tom McNulty

Started his career with Manchester in 1949 and was part of the side that lifted the league title in 1952 before moving up the road to Merseyside in 1954.

Tom Miller

The Scottish inside forward had played for several clubs North of the border before making the move down South, making his debut for Liverpool in 1912. Another career damaged by charges of match fixing, the same match as Jackie Sheldon.

Michael Nardiello

The young striker began with Torquay United and moved to Anfield from Manchester United in the summer of 2005 but failed to establish himself in either side. Joined West Bromwich Albion in July 2006 after being an unused sub in both legs of Liverpool's victorious FA Youth Cup Final in 2006.

Tommy Reid

The man from Motherwell started his career at Liverpool before being loaned to Oldham and moved to Old Trafford in 1929, scoring 67 goals for United before ending his career with Oldham and Rhyl.

Ted Savage

Robert 'Ted' Savage made 105 appearances for Liverpool before being allowed to leave for bitter rivals United halfway through the 1937/1938 season.

Don't why everyone's getting all het up over a player who'll play twice before becoming crocked for the season.
I don't care if you buy it or not Anita, it's my opinion and the other side is your opinion , and generally the most widely accepted one, as it suits nearly everyone else.
I strongly believe, and have heard that there was a little more to it than that. I'm sure the truth will come out one day.
As I have said in this thread and others I am fairly ambivalent to Owen coming back to us, he has seen better days and his injuries are an issue, however for a free on reduced wages it might have been an option. If the United thing does go through we will see who was right and who was wrong.
What I do know is that he was a great player for us, dragged us through numerous games and a couple of seasons almost single handed, was always a great ambassador for us, and for this alone deserves some respect.
Can't say I am enamoured about him going to United, but like others have said who can blame him, oblivion or one of the biggest teams in the world, when many have personally shown him he is persona no gratis at Anfield already.

Michael Owen is like Michael Jackson in a lot of ways.

Both thrust into the limelight very young with huge expectations.
Both believed they had more ability than those around them and could do better by leaving.
Both had 'black and white' periods.
Both have shit hair.
Both played with kids (owen in the youth cup run)
Both are famous for a treble (jackson for off the wall thriller and bad)
Both own horses.
Both talk like gimps.
Both are dead to me.

Theres more. Im not going into it.

Owen has received a lot of OTT abuse from us over the years, but if he signs for the scum then he'll deserve everything he gets.

Exactly, that's the best bit! He's doing us a massive favour going there, as they'd be a nightmare if they got a good striker in.

And Jackson passed his medical.

Hmmm... This is the Mancs remember, the 'Red Devils', the club that's clearly at some point sold it's soul to the Dark one..

You just know he'll go there and stay fitter than he has for fucking years. I tells yer.

He was offered the assistant manager job with us before he went to United apparently

In terms of that other list though, if they are going to include someone as obscure as Michael Nardiello then I am surprised Ramon Calliste and Danny Guthrie didn't get a mention

Actually yeah I think he did

well I am upset and feel gutted about it.

My manc mate has already reminded me that my sons middle name ("Owen&quot😉 was chosen by me when St Mike played for us

Pissed right off

As for him possibly winning a PL medal before Stevie or Carra, blood boiling at its peak

Quiffing of the highest order probably.

He goes places to win trophies, whats he won?

Tells me all i need to know about next season, he's a bad owen, omen, onion, apple,

Fuck Michael.
I am concerned now though he will return to his old self
Not a chance in hell.

I'm not to hassled about this, he will score goals for them, he has a great record for it. But how long will he spend on the treatment table?

I wouldn't hold a grudge against him for going to them, it's not like he's got too many offers that will get him a chance to play champions league football or back in with a shout for the world cup next year.

7.25 goals a season for the last 4 seasons, and where does he fit in their team? not sure he does really

its all down to fitness, it might be better for him when he moves away from the newcastle injury curse

Owen (free) would be replacing Tevez (loan) if he signs. An impact sub so his hamstrings wont be overworked.

You can be sure though that they will sign a big name to replace Ronalso

Who?

Owen Hargreaves is also rumoured to be retiring so the depth of their squad is evaporating when you consider Giggs, Scholes and Neville are getting on in life.

It is all down to fitness really. although the 7.25 goals in 4 seasons looks terrible, another way of looking at the same stats is he got 30 odd goals in sixty something games.
It is a gamble for the scum but it is a low risk bet at €40k a week if they can keep him fit.

I honestly dont know. But they have £65m burning holes in their pockets. I'll be surprised if they dont splash a large portion of that.

Who are they going to splash it on? All there targets have gone elsewhere or are staying put.

I haven't read this whole thread, but in a nutshell:

I don't hate Owen, but I do hope he fails now, which I never did before.

It looks a pretty desperate move from United's pov: is a washed-up, injury-prone, no-longer-fast ex-England striker on a free transfer really the best they can do in terms of replacing Carlos Tevez?
