Doing a good job at Burnley yadda yadda !

Turned Celtic down.

Ruled himself out of the running for the Scotland job.

Said last week he wasn't in the frame for the Bolton position (fnarr !)

Is now negotiating his move from Burnley down the road to the Reebok.

Good/wise decision ?

Is he a cunt for leaving Turf Moor ?

Arsed ?

No, aren't there lost of Asians horrid BNP people there or something ?

It's hardly a leap in living conditions that's for sure but Burnley is grim. Grimmer than Mr Grimsdale in Grimsby.

I'm probably being Neville Naive but I really believed he would stay at Burnley, at least until the end of the season.

Bolton is the same
[/quote]Lats time i was there someone smashed the window and broke into the van out side where i was working..

In footballing terms I think he may have dropped a real ricket. Burnley are still having their teething troubles, but overall I thought they'd made a reasonable start and seemed like a happy bunch with a good team spirit. Bolton, er, don't - and they're even below Burnley in the league. Admittedly there's half the season still left, but it wouldn't now surprise me if both clubs go down.

He's mates with the Bolton chairman I think and the fans want him apparently. This buys him some time.
Also Bolton are a bigger club.

I know Burnley have done ok but I doubt that will last and if they go down he'll probably get the sack. Seems unlikely right now they'd be so harsh, as he's highly rated at the moment but it does happen.

I thought he was a decent guy when he turned out for Burnley reserves against us.
I don't think that now.
The Burnley fans quite rightly feel pretty pissed off

regards

This is the thing with me.

I quite liked the guy, thought he was old school proper genuine geezer.

When he said he wouldn't be leaving Burnley, I thought that was the end of the matter.

Someone will try and tell me there's no Santa next.

Heard somewhere that the budget at Bolton is almost 3 times that at Burnley, so wasnt surprised he left.

Like what some articles by journalist were stating, he could've been loyal to Burnley and stayed on but ended up being another Alan Pardew, Aidy Boothroyd, George Burley etc.

Given how quick directors are in axing managers when things go wrong nowadays, I don't think his 'act' is in anyway wrong/selfish etc. The fact that it was the Bolton chairman who indirectly got him his Burnley job and the move to management in England plus his own history with the club and the backing they get from major shareholder Eddie Davies, its a reasonable move. Celtic may be bigger in terms of name and support but I guess the standard of the league they are in, plus the timing back then, probably put him off a little.

I am surprised he's gone to be honest. Burnley may be shit but at Bolton he'll be fighting a losing battle with higher expectations. It's not that much of an upgrade.

Still, I started typing that and got thinking about Phil Brown at Hull. He's come under a lot of pressure and stick there and his circumstances are not *too* dissimilar to Coyles.

Bolton Town centre is quite a nice place, the rest is shit proper shit. The people tho are even fucking worse!!! There a right bunch of inbred grumpy arseholes!

There was a thread the other week about Le Tiss and, rather than say he was loyal to stay at Southampton, most stated he lacked ambition.
Bolton are a much bigger club than Burnley, can't blame Coyle meself.

Being in the top division for donkeys years (on and off admittedly), stadium, playing in Europe, International players, Ivan Campo, Okocha, Allardyce (like him or lump him, the Bolton job is a step up from the Burnley job; no Burnley Managers get linked with England).
To be fair, not following the Championship, I didn't know what division Burnley were in till they were promoted.
Not arsed but Bolton has been in my football psyche for 20 years, Burnley 1.

I see what you're saying, but I'm not convinced. For all the (usually over the hill) big name players and time spent (on and off, as you say) in the Prem, Bolton have achieved naff all and - pending Coyle working some kind of magic on them - are on a downward trajectory. It's quite possible that Burnley will survive while they go down and, if that does happen, you could well be seeing things differently just a few years from now.

What do you expect Bolton to achieve? Apart from staying in the Prem; regularly.

I can remember them in 2 domestic cup finals in the last 15 years, there's teams that would claim to be bigger that probably couldn't match/beat that e.g. Newcastle. And Bolton are still in the Prem.

I'll have a fiver Burnley get relegated this year, Bolton don't.

Delighted Bolton welcome Owen Coyle home as Burnley's bitterness grows

Louise Taylor
guardian.co.uk, Friday 8 January 2010 18.46 GMT

Owen Coyle was finally confirmed as the new manager of Bolton Wanderers late this afternoon when the resolution of a compensation wrangle finalised his exit from Burnley. "I'm absolutely delighted to be back at Bolton," said Coyle, who played for the club during the mid-1990s. "I look forward to bringing the good times back."

With Burnley demanding £3m for the loss of his services and Bolton wanting to pay nearer £1m, lawyers representing the Lancashire rivals had some serious negotiating to do as the former striker was placed on gardening leave after quitting Turf Moor on Tuesday.

While the eventual compensation deal left him free to start his new job, Coyle's debut in Bolton's dug-out was delayed by the postponement of their game at Sunderland yesterday due to adverse weather. Instead of travelling to Wearside, the 43-year-old had to be content with touring his new domain yesterday when he was shown around the Reebok Stadium and Bolton's training ground. His first match in charge is now scheduled to be the televised Premier League fixture at home to Arsenal next Sunday.

A delighted Phil Gartside, Bolton's chairman, said: "Owen was our No1 target and we are naturally delighted he has returned to the club as manager. He was an inspirational player who leads by example and is a great motivator. On behalf of everyone at Bolton I'd like to welcome him home."

Unsurprisingly, Coyle's departure has left a trail of bitterness at Burnley. Barry Kilby, their disappointed chairman, clearly feels Coyle had his head turned by Gartside's overtures and today suggested that Bolton's higher budget for salaries and transfers may not prove quite as attractive as it seems. "I told Owen they have £44m of bank debt but we have none," Kilby said.

"I think Bolton can say a lot of tempting things to attract Owen Coyle but whether they can deliver on them I think history will tell. But Owen wanted to work with a bigger budget and he obviously felt they had a better chance of staying up than Burnley. Owen's mindset is that he doesn't want to risk being in the Championship."

The immediate aim of the Turf Moor board is to appoint a new manager capable of sustaining Premier League football. Kilby remains keen on Simon Grayson but the Leeds manager is committed to staying at Elland Road. Another potential contender, the Norwich manager, Paul Lambert, distanced himself from suggestions that he might succeed Coyle, after bookmakers in the Bolton and Glasgow areas reported a rush of bets on him. Lambert said: "I love it here at Carrow Road. I've got a great rapport with the people here. I'm not going anywhere."
