We had the same points advantage when Saka was fit.
If I'm Twitter, or talking to my mates, I'm probably saying what you're saying to Arsenal fans about the points difference. But on here, I look at things differently.
Odegaard was out for the early period of the season, plus the fact they had a lot of strange calls (Brighton/Man City) go against them early on whilst they were leading. Heh, I'm not complaining, but the gap would have been closer if they didn't happen. And it would really be squeaky bum time right now.
Also when we played against them at the Emirates, we were dominated for large parts of the game, which concerns me. We just exert the same level of control. When he had Klopp we'd create 10 chances and give away 10. Nowadays it feels like we create 5 and give away 5.
Many of our games this year have been won by the odd goal and we built great momentum early on (credit to us), but we're running out of steam now and we're lucky they've had so many injuries recently (Saka/Martinelli/Havertz/White/Calafiori/Gabriel) so are unlikely to close the gap in time this season.
But next season they could, and they only need 1 top CF, and they're most definitely ahead of us in terms of quality.
If I'm being completely objective.
Player for player (if I think of their ability/performances for their position), Arsenal look like they're in a good position to build:
Alisson 9/10 Raya 8/10
TAA 8.5/10 Timber 8/10
VVD 9/10 Gabriel 8/10
Konate 7.5/10 Saliba 8.5/10
Roberton 6.5/10 (on the way down) MLS 7/10 (on the way up)
Gravy 7.5/10 Partey 7.5/10 (on the way out for Zubi)
Macca 8/10 Rice 8/10
Szobo 7/10 Odegaard 7.5/10
Salah 9/10 (on the way down) Saka 8/10 (on the way up)
Gakpo 7/10 Martinelli 7/10
Jota 6.5/10 Havertz 7/10
85.5/100 (us) vs 84.5/10 (them)
We have world class players (Ali, TAA, VVD, Salah) propping up our team (3 of which could leave; 2 of whom are on the decline). Whereas they have players at a good age on the way up and closer to breaking into world class categories (Saliba, Saka, Rice, Timber, Gabriel).
Next season we'll need to replace Robbo and Jota at a minimum, and get more out of Gakpo and Szobo, because we can't bank on another Salah early season G/A hot streak (the way he's fallen off so badly again is concerning). In fact, a lot of the season his general performances haven't been world class. He's just been ridiculously clinical this season. But in terms of what I want to see out of a winger when they're not scoring I can't say I've been in awe of Salah this season.
