When are either of these lads gonna get a sniff?

I'm not suggesting we drop benteke. Far from it. I'd like him to have a partner up top, or get a rest in games we're winning, as he is the main man for the forseeable

Based on the game against Stoke, Rodgers was happy to bring ings on just before a Coutinho screamer, then scrapped that idea for some reason

Are we waiting for benteke and Sturridge to both be on the treatment table before one gets a chance? Then asking players who aren't match fit to be capable replacements?

Or are we going to barely use them, stifling development, and then waste the 18m we forked out for the pair?

Whagwan?!

After it has happened for the fourth time in a row, perhaps Rodgers has realised that the team is unfit and incapable of playing fluent football during the first few months of the season. So his idea is simply to hoof it and hope Benteke scores a goal. That's fair enough. Maybe after Christmas when the team is playing better he will try Ings or Origi.

Europa League, cups, injuries and the occasional substitution when we are behind and chasing the game. There should be no panic about them not getting games and absolutely no use forcing them into the team just to get them some game-time, it'll come.

I wouldn't be in any rush to throw Origi in the mix at this stage.

If Ings is to start for he'd have to play alongside Benteke rather than instead of him. So I don't see him starting v Arsenal but I'm sure it'll happen soon enough

Origi should go out on loan. Ings can play a role this season as back up to Sturridge and Benteke.

I don't hold much hope for Origi purely based on our past record of dealing with players like him.

I thought Ings was 21 but turns out he's 23 so I guess he's fine to rot as a squad player.

This is all the more reason we need to stop playing this 4-2-3-1. We have 5 strikers at the club (Benteke, Firmino, Sturridge, Ings, Origi) - there isn't a chance we can make the best use of them in this current formation.

Even so, I don't have much hope for Origi. He's a really raw talent at the moment, and he needs loads of consistent game time to develop into a proper player. He won't get anything other than bit part appearances here.

I'd loan him to somewhere like Southampton or Swansea for 2 years. Both play one striker (Pelle and Gomis), and don't have much competition in that spot.

Best bet is he flourishes in a place like that, and we either get back a developed player, or make a profit selling him.

It's only two games in, there's alot of games to go over the course of the season. So as said, I can see them getting the cups and sub appearances. At least in this half of the season. People read too much into lineups at any given time. In six months time will we be churning out the same XI as now? Unlikely. Form, injury and systems will each play a part. I do think we've pretty much gone into this on the understanding that Sturridge isn't going to be fit anytime soon, so sods law (for Ings and Origi) says he'll probably get fit and stay fit. We could do with Ings because he'll help when we need to play two up top and he'll help from the bench and in other competitions.

We can only guess that Origi is going to learn from the rest and develop with a view to being more active in the team over the next couple of seasons, I still think he'll get enough chances though in the cups.

Origi needs to be loaned. Unlike when we signed Origi, Rodgers knows he will be sacked if this squad underperforms and therefore he's not going to prioritise the long term development of players who are not ready now. If I were Origi I would pushing for a loan deal.

Really don't get the Ings signing at all. We knew tekkers was no.1 target and had sturridge to come back along with origi. At this rate we will have spent 10m on a kid who doesn't make our bench. Throw in Marko who potentially will fail to make our bench this season also, then that's alot of money to be sitting in the stands. Poor decisions all round, what a fucking waste.

7 strikers

Origi is 20. He came to Liverpool. If he thought he'd be starting or getting major minutes in the first 2 games of the season, he's crazy or naive or stupid. Along with anyone who thinks he should've featured more in those 2 games, especially considering we haven't quite gotten off the blocks quickly. Bournemouth should've been an opportunity, but we didn't do well in that game, so too bad.

Mid-September when we have the first Europa League game, then Norwich and Villa at home, will probably be when the duo will get more minutes. Sucks to have to wait, but that's life. Welcome to a big club.

Other clubs around us do similar and we marvel at their competitive squads, we do it and we're mistreating players. And let's not pretend we're paupers who can't afford it. We want to be amongst the elite, this is what elite squads are like.

Quite right. We needed better options on the bench and we've now got better options on the bench.

We have. I kinda agree about Origi though, he seems like one player too many, but if he's here on the understanding that he'll develop and learn from Benteke and Sturridge, with a view to pushing for a place a year or two down the line, then it's a good thing. As others have said though, if he's here on the understanding that he'll play alot this season, he's going to be disappointed.

Yes. He needs to play a few games with the reserves, with coaches watching and talking to him, and Pep Lijnders doing one-on-one sessions with him. Don't just stick him on the bench. He's the ideal player for our new coaching set up to show its expertise.

I think alot of time it's just down to guiding players along the curve of development that their talent already promises. Making sure they don't lose focus because they're not playing, etc. I think we've developed young players well, but a couple have fallen by the wayside - Sterling, Sinclair, etc.
